I had booked a Tata Manza with R D motors, Kolkata sometime in September 2010. The payment for this car was released by the financier in the third week of December 2010 and the car was finally handed over to me on 10th January 2011.

However, in February 2012, when I approached the company for extended warranty, i was informed that I am not elligible for the extended warranty as I had not got it done by the stipulated period. It seems the car was invoiced to me on Sep 29, 2010. However, I fail to understand how the car was invoiced by Sep 29, 2010, when the actual delivery was made in January 2012, whereas the payment was received by the dealer only in December 2011.
Please advice.

Hello,

I fail to understand how the car was invoiced by Sep 29, 2010, when the actual delivery was made in January 2012, whereas the payment was received by the dealer only in December 2011.

I think you referring here 2011 instead of 2012 and December 2010 instead of Dec 2011 !!

Well for practical reasons - invoice date can be different from delivery date.
Sometimes - the billing is done by dealer so as to lock in the schemes / offers of that month or even for billing at the old pricing (if a price hike news), but it happens only as per customer request in some specific cases where payment is recvd, so that even if the delivery is done in the following month the scheme or offer does not hinder the delivery process.

Having said that - its very unlikely that the delivery is deferred by 3-4 months from the invoice date of the car. Is it like this that you applied for a loan , wanted to take delivery in September and dealer exec has billed the car but due to some reason or so - the bank has hold the application and somehow took longer than expected time with the other banks for approval !!

If thats not the case - then there should be no reason that invoicing to be done of 2010 when delivery was infact taken in 2011. You should have cross checked at the time of taking delivery a year back. The car RC book also would be having make year as 2010

Regarding - Extended Warranty - the scheme if prevailing in Sep 2010 (the month in which invoicing was done) will prevail.
