Hello Sir,

Firstly, Congratulations for holding your Maruti for over 21 years now.... Its great to see love towards the first car :)

Regarding - Vehicle Registration post expiry of 15 years, yes it can very much be renewed.
As per RTO process- after expiry of 15 yrs, the registration can be renewed for every 5 subsequent years subject to RTO inspector clear the vehicle with a fitness / road worthiness. Its issued basis :-

- its not emitting pollutants - for that one need to furnish a Pollution certificate)
- does not make too noise while driving to divert attention on roads and
- car should be in running condition with inspection for tyres, brake, electrical, horn, headlights etc should be in workable condition.

RTO rules prescribes for physical inspection of the car.
You can submit Form 25 with RC Renewal fees (generally in range of Rs. 250 - 400) with copy of valid Insurance, Pollution and car registration documents for renewal to the nearby RTO Office.

Pls find answers

> Renewal Fees for Fitness Certificate : Official Fees should be around Rs. 100.

> Documents for Renewal of Fitness Certificate :
--- RTO Form 20, 25
--- Original RC,
--- Notarized Attested Copy of Insurance & PUC Certificate,
--- Copy of ID & Address Proof,
--- Road Tax Receipt Copy
--- Challan clearance certificate from Transport Deptt

Download RTO Forms

> Any Time duration for the issue of FC and at what time do we need to be at RTO : Should be done before expiry of registration, ideally within 15 days of expiry of registration. Else some small fine is imposed with. For RTO Time - check with local RTO Office site

> Any road tax that needs to be paid now, Any hidden charges.? : No - its the new smart card (approx Rs. 250 - 300) & applicable Fitness Certificate charges (Rs. 100) & Green Tax (if applicable) of Rs. 400 - 500 approx. If the procedure done after expiry then applicable fine too - can expect official expense under Rs. 1000.

> the renewal will be for how many years? : Its Generally for 5 yrs for Private Cars.

@ Harri -

To the best of info we have -
Re-registration can be applied only from City - where vehicle was Originally registered - its irrespective whether the vehicle is plying in different state.

But - as that may not sound feasible to you - you may get in touch with a local Ambala RTO Agent (try to get number through Justdial) or a Dealer personnel who deals with RTO Office in Ambala to assist you with it.

@ Yurik

Its around 24 yrs of the vehicle
> Was the fitness certificate renewed after 15 yrs (2006) for next 5 yrs (i.e 2011) ?
If yes - There would be certain fine which may be deposited along with FC Certificate renewal fees
Suggest to check it out with local rto / agent for same.

Post that :-
> You need to get insurance done - even may choose in 3rd Party Insurance - which is much economical
> Get PUC (Pollution Check) Done
> Then apply for Fitness Certificate renewal as per process and documents mentioned in reply#3

dear sirs,
I am a proud owner of Maruti EX 800 model May 2000. This car is registered with RTO, Gurgaon. Since renewal of registration of the vehicle is falling due next month, I seek advice in the matter. Particularly in view of the NGT orders of banning vehicles aged 15 or more years. My car is in very good running condition and I have been getting it checked for pollution every three months as per the orders of concerned authorities. It has never been found to be polluting. It looks to be new and very sparingly used.

I want to renew the registration of the car.
Kindly guide me accordingly.
Thanks

@ Jaivardhan

3rd Party Insurance is always an availability option
You can choose in same. However - if your insurance is running for more than 5 yrs with same insurance company - you may even take it up with existing Insurance company to continue offer in comprehensive policy.

There are exceptions which can well be taken up by Insurance companies for existing customers.

I own Maruti Zen which is Registered in Delhi RTO upto August 2016. I have used the care sparely and would extend the Registration by paying necessary Road Tax and completition of Formalities like Fitness, Pollution Cert. Ins.
What is your advice that I would not have any problems in extending the Registration beyond 15 years esp. when there is news that Petrol Cars will not be allowed after 15 years?
