Hi, I had a 2002 Santro model and there is a problem starting up in the morning like 4:00AM. I have a job and need to run the car at this time. The weather is getting cold and I have a hard time starting up the engine. Sometimes, I feel like giving up. I have changed the battery with a new one and I feel the battery is also very strong. Recently service, New Spark plug. I also recently tuned ECU with the Hyundai service center. My car run in both CNG and Petrol. The car have no problem except morning start. please help.

Can make a estimate of parts which may cause Cold Morning Start Problem to your CNG Car.

> Spark Plug - which you have already replaced.

> Ignition Coil - Did the Mechanic Checked the condition . Do you observe any jittery ride on latter half of day or any drop in mileage off late? If not - then ignition coil could be okay.

> Battery - Which has been a major cause for starting problem, but as you mentioned that has also been changed

> Engine Oil - As you have serviced the car, are you aware what was the Oil Viscosity. Though Modern Engines are compatible with all kind of Oil - but if a thicker Oil having high Viscosity is used - it may create starting problems as oil would be thick in winter time.
Hyundai now recommend 5w/30 Engine Oil in its range of cars which is relatively thin and easy to circulate during Cold Conditions. Though in Older Engines, Hyundai was recommending 20w/50 earlier
Suggest to try with Castrol Magnatec 5w/30 - which is a semi synthetic one.

> Last but still important as your car running on CNG - Were CNG Filter Cartridge were changed as sometimes CNG Filter gets Choked and Engine Cranks but does not start in Often. So suggest to get it eplaced

Net All Suggestion would be to
> Replace Engine Oil with Lighter Viscosity of 5w/30 - if a higher viscosity is used
> Get CNG Filter Cartridge replaced - if not done in last 30K Kms
> Also ask mechanic to check for Ignition Coils

Hopefully - it should help in addressing your issue

Hello Guys,

I am also facing starting problem with Santro car 2002 model. The problem is that sometimes car starts fine and sometimes it doesn't start, it just do goooo goooo

goooo and doesn't start the engine, this starting problem is tested irrespective of engine being hot or cold, specially when the engine is hot the problem is

occuring more and when we wait for sometime and then try to start then it starts fine.

Technician has already checked the battery and he found no issues with battery.

There can not be the problem with alternator because the lights, AC power windows and other things are working fine on battery.

So technician is guessing the problem might be with starter or ignition switch.

@ Zia

Yes - looks like an issue with Starter
As you mentioned - issue happens more when engine is hot - pl check for Coolant levels - it may also likely be due to low coolant level attributing to engine overheating and causing starting problem.

Thank you so very much for your valuable comments...

Yesterday my mechanic checked and repaired some cabling and switches in the ignition area and he found that there is so much rusty ends found, and he did cleaned that area, and i felt there is a little improvement in starting of the car, but the problem is still there, out of 5 attempts car starts 3 times and just crank rest of the 2 times and doesn't start.

I found that the battery water is coming out in a small quantity and there is a white powder is gathering at both the terminals, do you think it may be the battery problem?

Thanks for you valuable time.

In that case - you battery is leaking
The white powder is nothing but the Electrolyte chemical content - advise you not to remove it from bare hands as its highly sensitive and toxic to human body and may cause allergen on hands. In case of leaking chemical content - the battery starts reacting slowly and this could probably be the main reason for car ignition starting problem.

Suggest to visit a battery shop and test your car with a alternate charged battery - if your car is cranking 100% of the times with alternate battery - get the battery replaced - ask them to clear the corroded leak before installing the new battery

Hi Satty,

First of all tell me is your starter motor working properly? If not, when did you charged your battery because battery gets automatically discharged in 15 to 20 days if not charged. In this case it does not matters that your battery is new or old.
Second, in winter, the battery gets cold and the resistance of acid is increased. So the battery is not able to supply full current. In this state, you have to get your battery recharged.
If you are sure that the starter is working properly, then the battery should be working properly, check if the fuel is coming in carburetor. If not, then use starter fluid can and check if car starts. Then tell me.
good luck.

I did the same and car got started, now its again showing the same problem, in every 2-3 days car doesnt start even on petrol or cng, Checked, battery, terminal carbon and wires etc, all looks fine but its not getting started. Could you please suggest what could be the reason, as I am very much disappointed and on they way to my home.
