Hello Gitesh ji,

As what said as the Golden rule of happy marrage - "Wife is always right"
and trust in is not a simple proverb - but reality lies in it.

When you ready to spend in near 20 Lakh - is important to own a SUV where
a. Road Presence matters
b. Features, Space
c. Comfort oriented ride

Recommending MG Hector is right decision in sense that is
> Massive in road presence with near 4.7 m length - feels differentiating against 4.2 m, 4.3 m Mid SUV Cars
> One of the best suspension for comfort oriented ride in city use (although now comes with 18 Inch wheels where bit underlying firmness is there due to tyre profile, still overall suspension tuned for comfort)
> Excellent Cabin Space Management for 4 Members for utmost legroom, headroom
> If you plan in - gets in Hector Smart CVT gets in essential features with signature element of
a. Panoramic Sunroof
b. 10.4 Inch Touchscreen with Android Auto, apple car play with 100 over voice command
c. Signature Diamond Mesh Front Grille,
d. Cruise, Push Ignition, rear ac vents, camera

But - as what said - theres second side to it too
a. Significant higher running cost, do expect single digit mileage at best with MG Hector
b. CVT feels boring and if you revv hard will find engine noise to be higher without corresponding much increase in speed
c. Not best in high speed handling
d. Despite of large size SUV - width is narrower and best for 4 adults and 1 child only
e. Voice commands gets a miss on the go - although bigger touchscreen is there but will find voice commands go a miss

On other hand - VW Virtus 1.5 TSI DSG is a gem of car if seek
> Best in class driving dynamics, - you will literally get the beast for best performance oriented car of India - feels even better and engaging to drive even against XUV700, Harrier
> Top Notch Handling
> Best in class Build Quality and 6 Airbags
> High Speed dynamics are significantly better
> Better Mileage and this Active cylinder tech works too
> Although Interiors are subjective but to view Virtus interiors feels premium over Hector

What wont like
To view only downside is slight dash rattles, noise levels are higher and lacks in gimmicks like Panoramic sunroof or utility one of adpative cruise but for anyone who seek
a. Significantly more fun to drive
b. Better Handling
c. Superior Interiors
d. More Safe cars

will find VW Virtus GT Automatic an excellent choice.

So carefull decide on what you seek in - to help you
a. Primarily City Usage car & Social Status with more comfort in day to day city use - MG Hector
b. Performance, Safety, Handling, High Speed Dynamics, Better Mileage and all round perspective - VW Virtus GT Plus

Should help !!

So Shall I go With XUV 700 or Scorpio N (Diesel /Petrol you are the best one to guide me on this) The range 20+ is the same. Reliable and resale is amazing. Please advice. However will prefer an AT. As my wife will be driving this car

If you choose in petrol AT version - indeed will end up with single digit mileage
Secondly - price point at which Scorpio N Petrol AT, XUV700 Petrol AT comes with do not offer as much features as what offered in MG Hector CVT

XUV700 Ax3 Petrol AT / Scorpio N Z4 Petrol AT feels too limited / bare basic in features as against MG Hector Smart CVT
So are you ready to forego even the basics like Camera, Alloys, Push Ignition and other bits on spending a moolah of 20 Lakh

I mean if you are flexible to increase budget to 23 to 24 Lakh then can be worth to consider in Scorpio N Z8 / XUV700 Ax5 - else doesnt justify the features in 20 Lakh car.

Best regds

Dear Gagan Ji,

I need a no nonsense car, all what I heard about MG is mostly errors and lack of power. I understand my wife love the car however her basic preference is big car with road presence.
Sir, I am really confused here. 20L isn't a small amount neither I want to buy a car which will keep giving error. Please I want you to put a finger of the car and I will buy it.

Although not advocating - MG is not that bad even
The way suspension tuned, features in Smart CVT, Space, road presence - all ticks in to right need for anyone with 20 Lakh Budget
Biggest concern is Single digit Mileage and the way car tuned lacks the handling, performance aspect.

But - Anyhow if you have doubts to it - best to avoid

To Make it
> Powerful Car
> Reliable
> Bigger Car Feel
> Macho Road Presence

Check out Mahindra Scorpio N and try to get in dark colors like Napoli Black, Deep Forest one

a. Scorpio N with 2 Litre GDI Petrol Engine with 200 PS Power, 380 NM Torque is real beast. The way Mahindra tuned suspension, engine and gearbox - can get significant excitement on the go. But biggest downside is mileage in terms of single digit. If running cost is a concern area - you also get choice of Mahindra Scorpio N Z6 Diesel Automatic which is powered with 2.2 Litre Diesel Engine with 172 BHP Power with massive 400 NM Torque in 6 Speed Automatic Transmission - again a combination of fun and fuel efficiency

b. Road Presence in the way with Scorpio N moves makes it a big differentiator with 4.67 meter length, 1.9 meter tall & width - giving it a beast kind of status, yet comes with Electric Steering in both Diesel Automatic and Petrol Models.

c. Product is near 2 yrs old and many initial niggles been resolved.
But yes at same time calling it Niggle free would be exaggeration. Some minor issues can still persist in.
So recommended to opt for Extended Warranty on car to have peace of mind ownership.

d. Yes Resale is pretty strong of the product and Scorpio N carries high demand in second hand car market.

Can indeed check it out.

Dear Gagan Ji,

We have zeroed in Scorpio N Z8Select model however we are unsure of which version to go diesel or petrol.
Please advice.

Mahindra Scorpio N Petrol has only disadvantage of single digit mileage
Anything around 7 to 8 Kmpl for day to day city use and 10 to 12 Kmpl on highway should be a fair expectation
While in Diesel 10 to 11 Kmpl, near around 12 to 14 kmpl depending on average speed can be expected in this car

Rest this GDI Petrol Engine is gem of art from Mahindra offering state of art performance with 200 BHP Power, 370 NM Torque
Is equally fun like Diesel but at same time feels more refined, less clutter against DIesel, plus the way Diesel as fuel getting negated even in BS6 phase 2 zone with restrictions in few cities, higher road taxes - leading customers to opt for Petrol

So - if this single digit mileage is what challenging part - can opt for Diesel, else for all practical reasons Petrol GDI Engine can be the pick.

Now there is new variant in XUV 700 Ax5 select
With all features of
1. Moon roof
2. Alloys
3. Digital cluster in OBD
4. 7 seater

So what would you suggest

XUV700 AX 5 select Diesel AT @ 23.3 Lacs

Scorpio N Z8 select Diesel AT @ 23.Lacs

Will await your very genuine reply on this

Mahindra Scorpio N & XUV700 is pitched towards separate segment of buyers

a. XUV700 - Ride is more plush, seats are more comfort oriented, more lifestyle feature and somehow is aimed towards buyers of Urban SUV

b. Scorpio N - for road presence, better tuned suspension, better tuned off road dynamics, stance on road for a beast SUV and is aimed towards buyers considering macho road presence, better off road capabilities

Features are separate but indeed XUV700 feels more premium, while Scorpio N towards all round road presence and dynamics
So is upto a buyer on what he / she gives highest preference to.
