First thing first, I am a very big fan of "कैसे हैं आप सब लोग". Secondly how you protect car buyers interests and stop them from unnecessary spending.

I am also stuck with taking decision of buying a new car out of Creta, Venue and sonet.

I need a car for a family of 5 and to daily
commute for my office 40km total up down.

I drive i10 2008 base model, it has unmatched seating comfort.

I prefer car with strong build quality, safest in its budget and with nearly 90 degree seats because of my long legs, 1.5 4 cylinder as I already drive 3 cylinder petrol, preferably automatic and No need of ADAS or any unnecessary or luxury features.

So far I have short listed following cars with my views.

1) Sonet Diesel HTX Automatic 15 lakh.
Only available choice in its category and loaded with reasonable features.
But I doubt it's build quality, 3 passanger on rear seat may feel uncomfortable.

2) Creta SX Tech iVT petrol 20 lakh
Bright interior, I have to spend nearly 5 lack extra as compared sonet.

3) Creta diesel automatic S(O) 20 Lakh
Being relatively cheaper but automatic, it has enough power and mileage also.

4) Nexon Diesel MT 15 lakh
Although it is the most sturdy of all but it lacks service and part. Moreover no Torque converter automatic variant available.

Even I looked for jeep compass once, bust as you know it is extremely costly these days appx 27 lacs and service centres are far away.

You may suggest any other alternative.

I am confused certainly because it is a life long decision. If I limit my budget or choose relatively wrong model today I will regret for next 10-15 years. Which I don't want to do.

So help me out. I reiterate I need different from what I have today and it must be safe, easily accommodate 5, comfortable for my aged parents for 140-200kms weekly round trip. Budget 15 lakh can be stretched to 20 lakh.

Kindly suggest best option with justification.

Thanks and regards.

I want to clear about saying 90 degree seats means seating position should be high. I didn't like Honda Elevate driver seat because my knees hit stearing column and bottom of wheel even after full height adjustment. Moreover it's front seats are extremely low positioned and least leg space in its segment. These are my personal views.

Hello Singh Sahab,

Thanks. Glad to assist in !!

As i understand and summarize in need where you upgrading from a compact Hatch and seek to upgrade to an Automatic car with
a. Best in Class Safety Experience
b. Wide Open Doors with Raised Seating
c. Comfortable for Family to have in 5 Member Seating Experience
d. Monthly Tentative Usage of near around 1500 Kms

in a car in around 15 Lakh to 20 Lakh Budget

Let me tell you that :-
a. Elevate
b. Sonet
c. Nexon

wont meet in need.
Why not Nexon ? Poor Seating Ergonomics for taller passengers due to floating design, relatively raised floor for ingress, egress - can be an issue for senior members of family

Elevate - apart from what you referred is at best 4 member car

Sonet - Indeed build, space - still a concern out there

Coming to Alternative: Hyundai Creta Sx IVT can be fantastic choice meeting in near best of all parameters except questionable build
Theres no data to backup claim of Hyundai structural strength except OEM self proclaimed statements

b. Mahindra XUV700 - Ax3 Petrol Automatic - although ideal fit from space, seating comfort, build, performance but
> Single Digit Mileage
> Minimalistic Features even by exceeding upper end of budget

But - Is surely a such a beautiful car to drive in and have safety element, build and all

So Suggestion for you:- Look out for Skoda Kushaq Ambition Automatic with reasons

a. Proven 5 Star Build Quality and now SKoda Kushaq updated with 6 Airbags - you will never have to think twice about safety aspect of car

b. Although not as spacious as what you get in XUV700 or Creta but If considering cars like Elevate, Nexon, Sonet - will be pleased by kind of space as package of legroom, shoulder room in Kushaq on rear seat

c. 1.5 Litre TSI Petrol Engine with 150 PS Power, 250 NM Torque - be assued will find performance even quicker against Creta Diesel. This engine - transmission feels the most quickest and most fun oriented even surpassing in cars like XUV700, Scorpio N having near 200 PS Power in there Petrol Auto in terms of agility, pickup response

d. Theres difference in terms of suspension, Aircon performance and somehow 4 cylinder engine as used in Kushaq feels more silent. Infact Kushaq 1.5 comes with active cylinder where car can cut off 1 or 2 cylinder on highway to boost in fuel efficiency.

e. Top Notch Handling, Feel and Feedback - will love in the spirited drive experience feel of this car

f. Tyre profile is apt at R16 205/60 - somehow ride is not as firm as some cars with even 17 inch wheels available.

g. Available with 4 yr standard warranty - but recommendation is to extend Warranty to 6 yr / 1.5 Lakh Kms on additional payment of Rs 25K to make it more peace, plus avail in Skoda 4 yr service care plan for peace of mind ownership

What wont like
a. Some rattles on dash

b. Aircon is noisier

c. Not as upmarket as what felt in Creta

d. After Sales Service experience is not the levels as seen in Hyundai

But trust from
a. Build
b. Safety
c. Performance
d. Driving Dynamics
e. Ease of Ingress, Egress
f. Ergonomics
g. Handling
h. Combination of 1.5 Litre Engine in terms of overall mileage too

You will instantly fell in love with this car
Have a test drive and experience - to view can be a great choice for need as specified.

Lastly: At lower end of budget - experience in Mahindra XUV3xo - somehow has not test driven it so far in its new Auto Transmission - so cant recommend as of now. But have a gut feel and confidence on Mahindra Turbo GDI Performance which should be scintillating too.

Hope should help !!

I think you should go for VW Taigun.

ACT or active cylinder technology works like a charm. It switches from 2 cylinder to 4 and back to 2 without a hint. The only way you know the switch is when the virtual cockpit indicates it. ACT makes the 1.5 more fuel efficient than the 1.0 TSI. At city/highway speeds when the car feels it can do with half the engine at work, it switches seemlessly.
Fuel economy: Not a very important point for me but for people who are curious here: In city moving traffic, the car gives about 12-15 kmpl. In bumper to bumper situation, i have seen it drop to as low at 8-10 kmpl. Out on the highway with cruise control, you can very easily get 18-20 kmpl out of this.
Paint quality is great IMO. I had initially booked white but changed to silver after i saw it in flesh. I think it looks lovely and really helps pop out the creases and design lines. GT plus comes with black roof.

Big enough interior space. Although i have never been driven around while sitting at the back, my parents and friends appreciate the leg space and the comfortable seats.
The list can go on and on but let us keep it to this much for now.

Dear Gagan ji,

Thanks for your valuable suggestions, I contacted with Skoda for new car. Now they have revoked cash discount offer. Only offering 3 year service package. Ambition 1.5 will cost around 20 lacs. It really feel like Skoda is swindling me for 1.5 lacs.

I have almost finalized my options 1,2) Sonet/Seltos Diesel iMT /Auto based on next query. The reason for this selection is that they are nice looking and in my budget and sonet only available option with diesel automatic TC.

But before we finish this I have two more queries.

Firstly, I want to know the difference between IMT gear box vs automatic Torque converter gear box in diesel car particularly in Sonet 2024.
Which one is relatively good and you will prefer.

Secondly, suitable automatic variant of Jeep compass and Tata harrier with budget of 25 lacs. And out of those two which one will you prefer.

Thanks and regards.

Bad for Skoda

I want to know the difference between IMT gear box vs automatic Torque converter gear box in diesel car particularly in Sonet 2024

IMT is Manual Transmission only but without a Manual Clutch
Yes - dont consider it as Automatic as you need to upshift and downshift gears manually
If due to any reason you miss to downshift gear on reducing speed, like applied brakes to bring down speed at 20 Kmph but gear remains at 5th gear then your call will enter in dead mode (aka as Limp mode) - means car will just stop and unless you bring down the gear to 1st gear or 2nd gear - wont be able to continue in

Secondly - IMT does not feel as engaging as what a Manual Transmission or Automatic Transmission car
Infact so much so - Kia Sonet Diesel Automatic feels superior in
> Auto Gear shift response
> Convenience of drive

Even IMT has slight lag in pickup as against conventional Manual
So it has to be regular Sonet Diesel Automatic only

Secondly, suitable automatic variant of Jeep compass and Tata harrier with budget of 25 lacs. And out of those two which one will you prefer.

Compass Sport now only available iN Diesel MT
If you wish to choose in Automatic - Compass Longitude Option / Night Eagle would start at around 27 Lakh exshowroom. Even after factoring in discounts and road tax - car can land anywheer in around 28 Lakh On Road

At that price - Tata Harrier Fearless Automatic comes in and offers signficantly
> More Features
> Lifestyle
> Even better cabin space
> Way Stellantis group sales going on - this AMerican brand Jeep future looks bleak in India

Only edge of Jeep Compass is drive-ability in 9 Speed Automatic and slight better looks appeal - but Harrier Fearless Auto has a different appeal basis advanvced lifestyle features,

Should help !!
