Dear Gagan Ji

I had earlier messaged you on the forum and per your advice had bought a VW Polo, Highline Plus Model of 2021 in June 2021. Overall I find it to be one of my nest decisions ever, with the car running like a beast. The only downside to it is the sudden maintenance costs which have emerged in the past few months ( 1 window motor not working, the knob for ORVM controls just came off, the AC vents controller switch also came off).
Keeping these rising costs in mind, I thought maybe the time would be right to go for an EV. After driving all of them I really liked the MG ZS EV and it felt like the Polo has become an EV.
Do you think it would be a financially wise decision to exchange the polo for the ZS and in such a case what should be my resale value of Polo.
PS: I am from Hyderabad and have a daily running of 90 kms and my Polo currently gives me a mileage of 16.5-17.5 kmpl.

Thank you!

Dear Anirudh ji,

Great to hear from you and understand your concern
Although plastic parts like knob, controller switch wont be covered under warranty but power window motor do comes as part of standard warranty. As you bought car in 2021 - at that time VW used to offer in 4 yrs of standard warranty in car

Secondly plastic parts like knob, controller switch shouldnt be that expensive - correct me if am wrong

Anyhow - if you feel like upgrade, indeed Zs EV offers in scintillating performance and EV are very fun with sports mode matches in performance of luxury cars like Beemers, Audi (reason is - entire 280 NM torque available from 1st speed which delivers in scintillating performance especially at start of car in EV).

But one thing which this EV wont be able to match in would be handling of Polo, somehow steering, suspension do not at all feel as sorted as what VW Group cars are. Having said same
a. Wear ^ tear would be lower in EV as against any regular internal combustion engine car
b. Running Cost would be significant lower too, near 1/4th of Petrol car.
c. MG Zs EV got significant price cuts in last 1 yr and base model of Zs EV Executive ar 18.98 Lakh and Excite Pro at 19.98 Lakh speaks best value for money in EV Space
d. Practical range of near 300 Kms is achievable in this EV
e. 5 STar Build Quality as performed in Zs EV Suite

Choice of upgrading from Polo to Zs also depends on the value of old car as what you getting
So dont miss to check on valuation price of Polo - both from MG Dealer and through in other platforms too to take an informed call..

Hello Gagan Ji

I think you make some very valuable points. My concern arose when things started to fall apart since January this year. I have already paid 20 k in the last three to four months for the motor repair and the knob (which cost me almost 5.5k). From your experience, does a car like polo breakdown after the warranty. I want to state that I drive my car alone and very carefully and take really good care of it. So, if you can share is such breakdowns will become more common after the warranty expires, then I will think of the lower end variants of the MG ZS EV, otherwise I will love to continue with my Polo.

Thank you for your time

From your experience, does a car like polo breakdown after the warranty.

See what VW India tried post 2018 is increased localization of parts
The European parts although were expensive but speaks high of quality too. Theres definite dip in quality of last batches VW Cars from 2018 onwards - but still not something a grey area as on stand alone passes on all requisite quality checks from OEM end

Having said same - if you bought in 2021 then warranty would be there till 2025 and i suggest to extend in warranty of your Polo Car - as although plastic parts which do not cost significant wont form part of warranty but indeed all electrical, mechanical, emission one would be covered

Secondly - i am not sure why you paid for Power Window motor or repaird when actually this forms part of standard warranty.
On what ground dealer asked you to pay for it ?

Lastly - there may be marginal teething issues but i dont foresee anything serious which can impact on ownership experience of Polo in next 3 to 4 yrs. For same only - extended warranty for 5th & 6th year can offer lot more peace of ownership and even better resale too at that point of time been car covered under OEM warranty.

Should help !!
