Hi MyCarHelpLine,

Greetings of the day.

I am at 46 years, I have used Santro Xing for 12 years and my usage is around 500 km per month and occasionally(once in year) highways for long trip (1000 Kms). Family with 2 kids and occasionally parents will also sit on car.

My usage is mostly in city other than highway trips mentioned earlier.

Budget is at around 9 to 10 L on road Hyderabad, will stretch bit higher for another 1 lakh for best fit it required.

Looking for automatic car in view of Hyderabad city traffic. Most of my driving in city is heavy traffic area.

I got few cars in mind based on my analysis through various videos and blogs

a. Hyundai Exter SX Automatic ( S AMT also is in mind - to avoid higher priced product)
b. Punch Adventure Rhythm AMT. ( I can save some amount)
c. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta AGS
d. Aura SX plus AMT
e. Tiago XTA -- is it worth to go by saving 2 lakhs on comparing other cars? but still thinking it is small car.
f. Altroz XTA
Looking for
Peace of mind, Value of ownership, city driving should not be hectic and safety ( not sure how much I should worry about this ) , pocket friendly and rear seat comfort.

Please suggest and add if I am missing another good option.
Citroen C3 is there but not sure is to be considered.?

Please clarify and suggest suitable one and further steps.

Thanks
Srikanth.

Dear Srikanth,

Greetings !!
See biggest issue in Telangana is steep road tax & registration fee where present charges of
> 14% on Internal combustion engine cars
> Additional 2% road tax if buying 2nd car in same name

limits the ability of buyer
For someone who has budget of 10 Lakh - will suddenly find cars priced at 8 Lakh exshowroom goes close to 10 Lakh (with insurance, accessories, warranty apart from RTO fees). Similarly - for one who think of 11 Lakh will find 9 Lakh priced exshowroom cars eating up another 2 Lakh on it

Coming to need, requirement
As you seek primarily city usage car where
> Peace of mind
> Value Buy
> Rear Seat comfort
> Long lasting reliability
> Ease of driving in day to day city use

My Suggestion:- If you decided with budget of 9 to 10 Lakh - i will recommend 2 Cars meeting in need:-
a. Maruti Baleno Delta AMT / Glanza S AMT as first pick
b. Hyundai Exter S AMT

with sheer reasons:-
a. 4 cylinder engine - refined, highly reliable
b. Excellent after sales - proven
c. While Exter leads with raised ground clearance, suspension - Baleno is towards comfort
d. Why Baleno over Fronx - Fronx is essentially Baleno only with rasied GC, but has slight limited headroom space in rear. I see no reason to choose Fronx over Baleno (as fronx has stiffer suspension and if your need is in city use - Baleno will offer more comfort)
e. To view Baleno feels more spacious as against Exter and with discounts on Baleno / Glanza offers even more value in terms of space, comfort, better mileage - can expect 35000 consumer offer and 15000 exchange benefits

From Peace of mind, space, reliability, rear seat comfort and ease of drive - Baleno Delta AMT / Glanza S AMT appears top notch for need in defined budget of 9 to 10 Lakh On road in Hyderabad

In terms of Glanza / Baleno - both cars are essentually same but Glanza offers beige interiors with different front fascia and Toyota after sales is not as crowded as Nexa - may consider Toyota Glanza too.

Alternatively - if feel like increaasing budget to 11 Lakh - to view a car like Hyundai I20 Sportz IVT with
a. Proper IVT Automatic Transmission as been more smooth
b. With more premium Interiors
will be better fit for need.

Flip side - seats are placed slight low in rear and no official discounts apart from exchange bonus in I20 IVT - but if plan can negotiate for 10K to 15K at dealer end.

Additionally - You can check more details on :-
a. Maruti Baleno Delta AMT
b. Hyundai I20 Sportz IVT

Thanks Gagan for your detailed response. This definitely helps me.

Few points to know.

a. Point 1:

"> Additional 2% road tax if buying 2nd car in same name"

-- As per car dealer, this additional 2% road tax is charged even if we have 2- wheeler on same name. But your inputs are saying if we have car already on same name. Please confirm so that I will check with them again.

b. Point 2:

Please help me here below.

i. I am not clear what level of importance/considering safety point as most of my travel is within City except sometimes highway driving.
ii. Is Baleno Delta AMT / Glanza S AMT are that weak in safety ? for this usage ?

c. Point 3:

i. After brainstorming on few inputs, if pick is Hyundai Exter S AMT, do you have any thoughts on worth buying SX AMT with cost of 80 K additional.
I am not much inclined to spend more on good to have features if that does not add to basic requirements of car.

d. Point 4:

i. Why Punch or Citroen is not in your list for city pick ? Is it not suitable for Hyderabad city ?

e. Please review the dealer quotation as attached Baleno Pricing and where can I get and what level of amount.

> Additional 2% road tax if buying 2nd car in same name"

Yes - to be specific ruling states that "Additional 2% road tax would be applicable if second or more personalized vehicle upto seating capacity of 10 members in all owned by individual".

So - includes any vehicle in individual capacity (including 2 wheeler)

i. I am not clear what level of importance/considering safety point as most of my travel is within City except sometimes highway driving.

Speed is the basic mantra followed simultaneous with basics in terms of
> Lane drive
> Gap approach
> Traffic rules in terms of red light

As long as you are following basics correct with the fact that Airbags, ABS forms part as standard safety in these cars - you really do not need to worry about Safety.

Can say that for city use (where speeds are low) - even Wagon R is safer.
For more details - refer this video explaining

ii. Is Baleno Delta AMT / Glanza S AMT are that weak in safety ? for this usage ?

Not structurally the bechmark - but safety levels are definite improved and indeed with
> Wider Tyres
> Good Brakes
> Airbags
> Improved strictural rigidity over previous Baleno

can confirm that if follow in speed limits are safer cars.

i. After brainstorming on few inputs, if pick is Hyundai Exter S AMT, do you have any thoughts on worth buying SX AMT with cost of 80 K additional.

See the key differences in between Exter Sx AMT and S AMT are
Safety: Rear Defogger
Convenience: Paddle Shifters in AMT, Automatic Climate Control, Rear View Camera, Cruise Control
Styling: Electric Sunroof, Projector Headlight, Sporty Metal Pedals, Semi Leatherette Seat Upholstery
Wheels: Bigger 15 Inch Dual Tone Styled Wheels with Wider R15 175/65 Tyres

Theres no doubt that with Sunroof, Projectors, Camera, Cruise, Paddle shifters all makes it value
But for someone whos not fond of Sunroof, who has max city usage and thus not going to use cruise in, has weather where wont get dense foggy weather (unlike north india) - it doesnt make much sense to spend in a Lakh more in terms of on road price for Sx AMT

What can rather use is Camera as accessory and use partial bit for Dashcam, Tyre inflator, GPS Tracker to make it more worthy in fraction of price for S AMT

i. Why Punch or Citroen is not in your list for city pick ? Is it not suitable for Hyderabad city ?

A brand whos in mass market and not even selling 1000 units a month - to view has bleak future - thus Citroen out of list
For one who has maxium city usage - Maruti, Hyundai, Honda 4 cylinder cars are more refined, peppy and AMT calibration is better in Maruti, Hyundai and Honda in CVT has superior transmission response.

Please find attached Baleno and Exter invoices and suggest actual price for what I can bargain.

You need to decide on model variant first and ask for dealer quotation of there best price
Pls share once you zero in on the car after test drive and share in dealer quotation after discounts (including dealer end discounts, exchange offer as providing) to let know scope to reduce in prices.

Thanks Gagan. That helps.

Amaze S CVT is not discussed, but just to check, is it compared to the suggested ones ?

a. Maruti Baleno Delta AMT / Glanza S AMT as first pick
b. Hyundai Exter S AMT.

And please share view on maintenance cost of Honda Amaze.

Thanks

Amaze is a good choice for comfort and CVT makes it smooth but somehow feels too basic in present times
a. Soft suspension - not infuse confidence on high speed
b. Steering feels stiffer in city usage in CVT as against Manual - and lacks feedback at higher speed too
c. Car feels too basic basis features

Next Gen Amaze expected in coming 6 months and that can definite be game changer as car will be based on New Gen City platform with improved interiors, features, suspension, handling, safety specs too

Still - suggest to test drive and experience as biggest USP of Amaze remains in
> Smooth CVT Gearbox
> Rear Seat Legroom
> Large 400 Litre Boot Space

For Maintenance cost pls refer Amaze Service Cost - data slight old expect cost to be 30% higher - will arrange to soon update article post.

Thanks Gagan.

Based on various discussions/inputs,

Point 1:
Should Exter be pick in view of safety because of occasional highway driving by compromising on space compared with Baleno/Glanza.
As mentioned in my initial question, for occasional highway driving, should I worry about safety with Baleno/Glanza and assuming safety is comparably superior in Exter ? Can you please share your view.

Point 2:

I have enquired about two cars invoices (attached their pricing quotations in previous queries).

a. Baleno Delta AMT:

Dealer initial quotation (14%) : 9,86,000
Final quotation (14%): 9,20,000

b. Exter:

Dealer initial quotation (14%) : 10,08,000
Final quotation (14%): 9,93,000 (given option to opt for any other insurer if we want)

Please suggest.

Dear Srikanth,

There's no data to prove that Exter is more safer car against Baleno (just due to presence of side & curtain airbags)
Exter is based on same platform on which Grand i10 Nios is built - which scored in 2 star

Having said same - both Baleno, Exter are safer in the way where these cars meets in BNV Safety Assessment with structure worth to meet in crash at 56 Kmph and offers Airbags, ABS as standard.

To view as long as driving in controlled speed (at 80 to 90 kmph speed on highway max with lane approach and gap of minimum 50 meter (or 3 second with front car) can expect safe experience with both cars.

In terms of Quotation: No attachment
Pls attach in jpg/png file under 100 Kb or mail to me directly to assess same..

Hello,

Regret but these are not quotation but the price list
Quotation involves dealer sharing in discounts with there breakup (consumer offer, corporate, exchange, dealer end offers) with his offer price

Anyhow - as its Baleno Delta AMT and Exter S AMT
Baleno AMT:
a. Avoid Bunled accessories kit of Rs 10579 - rather ask for whats all included and check on whats needed
Anything other than Mats, Mud Flaps, Perfume can be avoided

b. There are consumer offers of 35K Cash + 15K Exchange + Corporate + slight insurance discount and fact that dealer offering in Rs 66000 Price cut at first go at 9.2 Lakh makes it fair go

c. My suggestion is - 9.1 Lakh with basic accessories, mats, mud flaps along with 5 yr warranty and zero dep insurance with Engine Protect would be a great deal for this car.

Hyundai Exter S AMT: Here too Rs 15000 as dealer end discount is provided which is a fair call
Yes - dealer is correct can opt for alternative online insurance and can save in or negotiate at there end.

Overall: Both dealer showrooms offered competitive quote and in case of Maruti - can cut on accessories and round off price to 9.1 Lakh and in case of Exter at fair deal too offered.

Do note that theres probability of price hike in April 2024 from Hyundai end. So if keen oN Exter - may have to hurry
Baleno AMT at 9.1 Lakh to view is an excellent deal.

Thanks for information Gagan.

a. I asked for quotation, but no dealer is ready to provide separate quotation saying this is the price reduction with these details are given.

b. In case Baleno, is there any Suzuki app that need to be taken mandatorily ? and is it will be charged ?

c. In mean time I also looked into Glanza S AMT. Which 9.65 Lakhs ( including Basic accessories Kit) and is near about 45 K extra compared to Baleno Delta AMT. Thinking is it worth paying 45 K for Glanza S AMT ?

d. Heard in process of discounts, dealers may cut the insurance options. So can you please suggest me what should be my ask in view of coverage in insurance. Can you please help me with check list for things to check in insurance.

e. Please suggest further sequence of steps in this process to follow once pick is completed.

Please find attached quotations.

1. Baleno quotation: Keeping in the view of quotation, they asked me to visit showroom and will finalise the price with discount details. 9.20 will be their price with this quotation. And understood your previous comments and will check with them.

2. Exter quotation: They have provided quotation after discount ( 12 K in Ex show room price).

Dear Sir,

Pls find replies

b. In case Baleno, is there any Suzuki app that need to be taken mandatorily ? and is it will be charged ?

Suzuki connect app is for vehicle tracking, geo fencing, speed alert, remote ops, security feature with smart watch connectivitiy - cost Rs 10K approx and is voluntary.

You can only consider taking it if having multiple drivers driving or has chauffeur to keep a check.

c. In mean time I also looked into Glanza S AMT. Which 9.65 Lakhs ( including Basic accessories Kit) and is near about 45 K extra compared to Baleno Delta AMT. Thinking is it worth paying 45 K for Glanza S AMT ?

Key difference :-
a. Exterior looks with road presence - Glanza front fascia has more executive and clean looks
b. Interior beige theme as against black interiors of Baleno - to some black feels claustrophobic
c. Default warranty of 3 yr as against 2 yr in Baleno (however EW prices of 5 yr is similar)
d. Toyota after sales experience - relative better

If these 4 points are acceptable to pay price premium - then can consider Glanza

d. Heard in process of discounts, dealers may cut the insurance options. So can you please suggest me what should be my ask in view of coverage in insurance. Can you please help me with check list for things to check in insurance.

Pls refer this article on - Car Insurance Covers
Should help in choosing requisite covers

e. Please suggest further sequence of steps in this process to follow once pick is completed.

Thanks Gagan.

Today I have taken one more time view of Exter and Baleno. Family liked Baleno compared to Exter. So went to Nexa showroom for Delta AMT. They are saying no car of Delta AMT is available and it will take 1 month if we book the car right now and not sure of discounts in next month. So they insisting me to go Zeta AMT model which is having discount that is given for Delta AMT, so costing at 10,26,000 ( excluding Basic accessories kit) after discounts. Now I am in dilemma that till I go to them they said cars are available, but when I visited them they changed the voice. Not able to understand if any thing misleading me.

If I go Zeta AMT because of availability, have to pay extra Rs: 1,15,000. then would it Fronx Delta AMT be at 10, 45,000 (excluding basic accessories kit) better pick even though I am not much thinking about Fronx because you said no much added value compared to Baleno Delta AMT with additional cost.

Please suggest me should I wait for Baleno Delta AMT by hoping discounts would be applicable in next month also ? Or should I go Baleno Zeta AMT or Fronx Delta AMT.

Is there any other thoughts please let me know.

Thanks

Hi Srikanth ji.

See - Zeta leads in providing
a. Enhanced Safety with 6 Airbags
b. Enhanced Convenience with Push Ignition, Camera, Rear Wash Wiper, 60:40 Split on Rear Seat,
c. LED Projectors (as against Halogen one)
d. Offers Painted Alloys
e. Additional Tweeter for better clarity in high pitch songs

You need to decide if not stretching too Much but give importance to features - can consider in same
Else would be worth a consideration for Delta AMT as value buy.

I wont suggest Fronx AMT but if feel like stretching budget at Zeta AMT - do check out Hyundai I20 Sportz IVT as
a. Feels more premium
b. Better Road Presence
c. CVT is superior in transmission

Thanks Gagan.

Every time your inputs helping me clear my confusion. Thanks.

Today I visited another dealer and got similar offer on Baleno Delta AMT and availability as well.

However just a recheck as Exter is delisted from my list as we did not feel much liking when compared with Baleno w.r.t to interior look and space.

How about Punch AMT for city driving ? Yes not comparable with Baleno. but any view on mileage and pick up. why asking is some people suggesting due to its build quality.

Regarding accessories for Baleno Delta, please suggest what are really needed to make better if my budget is 15k limit excluding rear camera and seat covers.

Thanks Gagan.

Final quotation is at 9.05 L for Baleno Delta AMT (Mfg : Jan 2024 ) without accessories. Based on points mentioned, I have given booking amount Rs.11,000/- for Baleno Delta AMT and then dealer sales person asked me to pay 50000/- (including booking amount) for blocking the car for specified color (Grandeur Grey). I have paid. Now I need to process loan from SBI. The SBI team said 8.85% is ROI. I have sent documents for loan process.

Sales person asked me to inform delivery date and also conveyed that PDI (Pre-delivery inspection) will be arranged before 1 day of delivery date.

1. When is the right time to disburse the amount from loan and as well as the rest of charges by self.

2. For PDI, do we need expert support for PDI ? or inspection by own is enough ?

3. As Baleno is old age product, would it be make sense if I would have given thought for Amaze in deeper side ? only for two reasons,

a. Does not look like a old age car
b. Still maintain CVT with better space and leg room.
c. Having 4 star safety rating.

Not sure on Amaze mileage in city.

My driving speed in the range of 80-100 KM when I travel on highways.

Please help me to clear these myths.
