Hi Sir,

I need some advice on purchasing a new car in 8-8.5L budget on road in Bangalore, for office commute and occasional weekend highway rides. (On avg. 50-70kms of running per week)

Uses and requirements are as follows:
1. Petrol Manual Transmission
2. 4 star or better safety rating by GNCAP
3. Touchscreen infotainment system with rear parking camera
4. Steering mounted audio controls
5. Central locking with keyless entry
6. All 4 power windows
7. Autofold ORVM
8. Good after sales support and service
9. Engine+Electricals reliability

Note: I am not bothered about engine refinement, NVH levels and mileage at the moment.

FYI, I have already booked Altroz XM+ Manual transmission variant but I'm a bit concerned about the engine/electricals reliability and Tata's after sales support, which is why I'm seeking out your advice. (Screenshot of one month subscription payment attached below)

Hello Rishav ji,

Happy Diwali

As you seek a Minimum 4 Star Car in Safety with defined Features List, somehow your options would be limited to Tata Motor Cars only in terms of :-
> Tiago Top Model
> Punch Middle Model
> Altroz

as the only one whos going to offer you Safety with Features
Else at this price point in budget - you get Honda Amaze base model but with very limited features.

As your usage to be very low at just 70 Kms a week - mileage would definite be insignificant factor

Basis concern as specified of Altroz XM Plus
> Engine
> Electricals reliability
> Tata's after sales support

Let me start with Engine: Coming to engine refinement, NVH - although you specified as not relevant but new age BS6 Phase2 1.2 Litre Revotron petrol engine of Tata Motors is like 50% better in terms of NVH Levels as against BS4 Engines car used to get in 2018 - 2019.

In City usage - be assured this is much live-able now and significantly better at lower end too in day to day drive.
Adding on this Revotron Engine is now almost 9 yrs old as was first introduced in Bolt, Zest in Turbo charged form, later on replaced with Naturally aspirated one in Tiago, Tigor from 2016 onwards and has got many silent and major enhancements in last 7 yrs

So much so that this Engine has ironed out near almost all niggles and is in very reliable form in terms of
a. Pickup
b. Refinement improvements in last 7 yrs

You really do not need to worry about reliability aspect, only thing is timely replacement of Engine Oil as per service schedule (Tata recommend bi-annual service with annual replacement of Oil, Filters)

Additionally - to our observation Air filter should be cleaned every 6 months / and replaced every 2 yrs to get the best of this car engine.

Electrical Reliability: Lets admit that Tata is not the benchmark, but still is considerably improved
You cant rule out minor niggles - but they wont be deal breaker as product is much matured now with many similar parts used in Tiago - Altroz.

For instance Touchscreen responsiveness may not be great but still in terms of Power Window functionality, central lock, driving you wont have issues.

Tata After sales Support: Much improved basis fact that Tata is now addressing to elite audience of 20 to 25 Lakh budget too in terms of Harrier, Safari, Nexon EV Max, and you staying in Bangalore which is Tier-1 city having multiple Tata Motor dealer outlet in terms of competition and customer service - dont think it would be an issue in your city.

Lastly - Altroz XM Plus lacks rear view camera, if you seek same may check out Punch Adventure Rhythm

Hope should help !!

Thanks for the help and reassuring my confidence in Tata Motors' after sales support.

Just one thing: Tata Motors website says XM+ comes with rear parking camera for petrol MT variant. Can you please confirm if that's the real situation?

Thanks

Also, my final on road price in Bengaluru for the Altroz petrol MT XM+ variant is 8.71 Lakhs.

Do you think its a good deal or way, way more negotiable?

Hi,

yes - looks like they added same silently in recent months. Regret erroneous info from our side
Same is now updated at MyCarHelpline site too

In terms of On road price deal - 8.7 Lakh is a fair deal price if with zero dep car insurance. rest - if do hard negotiation can save in another 5000 to 7000 in form of accessories / cash discount.

Best regds
