Hi, I am looking for a new car with a budget of around 10-12 lakhs.
I am from Kolkata

My avg monthly running will be approx 1500 kms, mostly city run let's say 70%, remaining occasional highway on family vacation trips

I will prefer a two pedal car (AMT/IMT or any other proper AT)

Among the must have feature - just one - keyless entry and push button start

I have been driving Ritz vxi since last 11 years and have clocked close to 2 lakh km. whatever car you suggest should be an upgrade over Ritz in all aspect

Cars which I have short listed
Baleno zeta amt
Altroz xza
Ciaz zeta at

which car do you recommend? (not necessarily the one's I have choosen, please feel free to give your opinion in any other car also)

Do you think it makes sense to stretch a bit and go for slavia ambition plus AT. or new nexon creative amt

Regards,
Balwant Joshi

Dear Balwant ji,

Greetings !!
Considering a car which is an upgrade from Ritz having decent headroom space, refined 4 cylinder engine with
> 2 Pedal Car
> Majorly City Usage with often Family Vacation
> Push Ignition with Keyless Entry

Somehow cant recommend Altroz as is a 3 cylinder engine and actually you wll find performance a questionable element in DCA.
In between Baleno AMT and Ciaz Automatic - nothing can match in torque converter and Maruti Ciaz Zeta Automatic has
> more comfort oriented suspension
> much better cabin space
> relaxed drive for city use
> much more features

However - you will miss on Ingress, Egress part. So here in recommending
Hyundai Exter Sx Option AMT - Excellent Headroom, Ease of Ingress, Egress, Fully Loaded Lifestyle Features, 6 Airbags, Refinement, Better Tuned Suspension, Comfort and Space

You will love in
> Fully Loaded Modern Age Features
> Decent Calibrated AMT Response
> Same Peace of Ownership
> Highly reliable
> Drives well for city use
> Much Better Design language

The kind of features as in Exter Sx Option AMT would impress for superior ownership Experience
Strongly recommended to test drive this car, else check out Ciaz Zeta Automatic in bigger 1.5 Litre Engine to be another decent upgrade.

Hope should help !!

Hi, I test drove multiple cars last week and here's my feedback

Baleno/Glanza AMT - I did not feel any jerks and drove in bad roads as well as on good road empty stretch. Suspension was very good. Engine was very silent and smooth and the car was most spacious of all the cars I drove. Rear space is as good as in a sedan

Hyundai Exter AMT - The ride quality and suspension was more or less like baleno. Could not find any noticable difference between the two in that aspect. Interior quality and size felt exactly like i10, even from outside it looks too small. Three people can hardly fit in rear seats. Since I am already driving Ritz since many years, was not feeling like an "upgrade" driving it

Kiger CVT - was very roomy and spacious, suspension and ride quality was also good, pick up and power was decent too but the quality of interior was very inferior, fit and finish , touch and feel was not good. Moreover there was vibration in idle situation and slight vibration was felt continuously while driving also

Altroz DCT - I was apprehensive about its ride quality and NVH levels since it is 3 pot engine but surprisingly I did not feel any vibration like I felt in Kiger but couldn't drive it for more than 10 min because under thigh support was way too less even for driver seat forget about rear. Felt very tiring and uncomfortable just in 10 min of driving (For your reference I am not very tall, I am just 5'6")

Now, after taking test drive of so many cars, its only baleno which I liked. Can you suggest some other cars given my requirement. what about Sonnet Htk plus IMT or new nexon?

Should I compromise on my requirement a bit and go for Nexon creative manual, which I might get in approx 12 lakhs on road. If you suggest its clutch is smooth and gear throw is short, I might think about manual also. I haven't taken its test drive

Now about next car which might be above my budget but am not able to stop thinking about it is Slavia 1.0 Ambition plus AT. dealer has quoted me a price of 13.7 lakhs OTR. I saw the car at the showroom and was blown away by the looks and interior. I know its a segment above car and obviously it will look and feel better from the likes of baleno/exter/kiger/altroz etc. Baleno Alpha AMT will cost me roughly 10.5 OTR. Does it make sense to increase my budget by 30% and switch to Slavia from Baleno. Is it worth?

See spending 3 Lakh extra over Baleno AMT will deliver you
a. A Full size 4.5 meter Mid Sedan as against sub 4 meter hatchback for social status
b. Impeccable Build Quality for Safety Aspect
c. Tubro Petrol Engine with Proper 6 Speed Torque Converter Automatic - much more fun in performance
d. Lot Better Steering feedback and relative stiffer suspension - deliver much better high speed handling
e. Interior Feels more Premium, Upmarket, Better Styling - a feel of Self Satisfaction for a premium car

What will lose on
a. Fuel Efficiency - no where close to Baleno
b. Baleno has soft side suspension, so if major usage is in city condition then is more comfort oriented in local ride
c. Relative economical spare parts and slight lower service cost on medium term

To be Honest
If ready to exceed budget - that 3 Lakh will deliver you a segment up, more safer and more stable car with superior performance, handling and road presence which can cherish as ownership experience.

confusion confusion confusion galore!!!

finally this is where I stand (the prices mentioned below is the final offer from all these vendor after considering scrap value of my old car)

1. Baleno alpha amt - 10.25 (with 5 yr warranty)
2. sonnet htx imt - 11.95 (with 5 yr warranty & 3 year free maintenance)
3. slavia 1.0 ambition plus AT - 13.25

Gagan Saab which of these offer better value? Sir, expecting a quick revert as I need to book tomorrow at any cost other wise I will not get car in this month and next month its start of "shradha paksh" and in second half of October RTO will not work in West Bengal because of Durga Puja fever, so my delivery will shift to November which I don't want.

Thanks and appreciate your support

Dear Balwant Sahab,

Hi. Skoda Slavia Ambition Automatic is by far the best pick
You will love in not only Build Quality, Performance, Ride, Handling but even car is more spacious too

Having said same - yes
a. Engine feels vocal at time, AC noise is higher
b. Some rattles are there on dash

But overall Pickup, Build Quality, Space for 4 along with driving dynamics and quality feels a notch above.

Strong recommended to opt for 4 yr Skoda Service care package to ensure a check on future upkeep service costs, and if not going overboard on budget to even consider in 5th and 6th year warranty too.

Should help !!
