  2. New Cars, Reviews

Hi team. I am from Nalgonda district, Telangana. Age 30. I do not have any driving experience except for driving school I took 4 years ago. Looking for purchasing a new car in Sedan/ SUV segment. Budget 12lakhs.

My priorities include( not necessarily in order):
-Reliable engine with low/medium maintenance, service network ( my location covers Hyundai, Suzuki, Honda, Mahindra, Tata, Renault only)
- Safety( not necessarily 5 star. Even 3 star is okay or at least 3 star expected cars) and comfort seating for 4 members( sometimes it may go to 5 members)
- Performance, Features ( aftermarket addons also okay) and mileage constraint due to fuel price hikes in recent times.

Requirements:
-Petrol/Diesel is fine. I may travel at maximum 600-800 Kms per month, occasionally even more.
-Touchscreen, parking camera are must as i am new to driving.
-None of my family members are above 5'6"

My shortlisted are ( personally I have never tested them. These observations are from mostly website reviews and may be wrong also):
- Venue S(O) IMT for clutch less manual (which is almost automatic for less price), features , performance, engine reliability and service network. But rear seating for 5 members is difficult as per my understanding.
- Nexon XM(S) for safety, performance and rear comfort. But I doubt engine reliability of Tata brand and I heard poor response from service personnel.
- Brezza Lxi for expected 4-5 star safety, wide service network. I can add accessories of touchscreen and rear cameras later. The other variants are too pricey.
-Honda Amaze VX manual due to engine reliability, rear super comfort. But I doubt on performance and lack of features for the price point. Also Honda seems not much interested in car market in recent times and doubt it may end like Ford India.

My questions:
Now if I add aftermarket accessories like touchscreen and parking cameras etc., does my insurance claim gets affected or any other practical issues I my face?

Dear Sai,

Greetings !!

Starting with your last query
Q. Now if I add aftermarket accessories like touchscreen and parking cameras etc., does my insurance claim gets affected or any other practical issues I my face?
A, See Warranty gets void if
a) Any Original Wiring of car is tampered, sliced or modified
b) If any Substandard accessory is used which may alter car functionality
c) if Substandard wiring product is used which may trigger fire
d) If any non-genuine accessory is used in car

Modern age Infotainment and Camera Functionality can easily be done using couplers provided the retro fitment center is trained and aware that he do not need to tamper, slice or modify in stock wiring set up of car

Also, if choosing retro fitment - only branded products should be used of international repute with good wiring density
Having said same - if car catches fire due to after-market accessories due to
a) Novice Fitter who tamper stock wiring and may cause spark later (even though how reputed branded accessory used)
b) Sub-standard wiring

and car catches fire, car manufacturer will deny warranty and at same time Insurance company may deny claim too

Basis Need, Requirement
You seek a car which is
1. Reliable
2. Low Maintenance
3. Fuel Efficient
4. Convenient to drive
5. Touchscreen and Parking Camera
6. Space for 5 Member
7. Acceptable Performance for 1st Time car buyer

and decent features too

with average monthly usage of 600 to 800 Kms in Sedan or SUV Segment in around 12 Lakh On road
See - State of Telangana hiked road tax few months back to considerable levels with slabs now in
a) Cars in price range of 5 Lakh to 10 Lakh - 14%
b) Cars in 10 Lakh to 20 Lakh - 17%
for first time car buyers too.

Choices
See Honda Cars sold close to 18 Lakh Cars in India, and the kind of
a) Reliability
b) Space
c) Acceptable Build Quality
offered by Honda is reasonable impressive. Despite of losses - future pertains to EV and in few years Honda going to get pretty agressive in EV Segment. Even in worst case

Honda Amaze is ideal only if considering Automatic where Amaze Vx CVT at 9.35 Lakh exshowroom is a gem of product basis
> Immaculate response in CVT Automatic
> Pretty Decent Space with Large 400 Litre Boot
> 4 Star Safety Rated Car with cabin equipped for 4 adults and 1 Kid or 3 average physique person
> In City drive - with soft suspension, comfort feels great to drive
> Best Car for buyers who seek relaxed drive
> offerd with 3 year warranty as standard with choice of 5 Year warranty in rs 9000 extendable further to later years
> In Features in Vx - you get Push Ignition,. 7 Inch Multimedia AVN, Multi mode camera, 15 Inch Alloys, LED Projector, LED DRL, LED Front Fog Light with detailed features on Amaze Vx CVT

Only con
> Not for fun to drive
> On highway - as steering feedback is average - best to limit speed at 80 Kmph
> Avoid driving too much on bad roads as suspension is on soft note and you will not like handling
> Schedule Service cost although competitive but Spare Part prices, and labor still cost higher than Maruti, Hyundai

Else, if its Manual Transmission - look out for Hyundai Verna S Plus
> More Engaging to drive as against Ciaz
> Will love in decent features except camera which can install as accessory
> Overall Drive, Handling is better than Ciaz

Alternative Choice in SUV
With Family member height at 5'6" - you really wont have any complaints with respect to legroom in Venue S Option
However if heavier in physique then yes may find width slight compromise, which anyway will feel same in Amaze too and Verna too at an extent
I suggest to sit on rear seat of car and check if shoulder room is not a deal breaker then basis fact of
> Ingress, Egress
> Fun of Turbo Petrol
> Factory Fitted Touchscreen, Camera adds on to convenience
> Stylish and overall Dynmics of Handling with great all round visibility feels lot impressive in Venue

Question is - depends on physique, as legroom is certain not an issue - if shoulder room is not conjested - you will get fun of drive and convenience with necessary essential modern age feature in Venue S Option IMT Turbo

So - pls have test drive and check out above
Brezza Lxi has pretty long waiting and Vxi lacks the kind of features, fun and convenience to drive as in Venue S Option

Hope should help !!

Hi,

As you specified
> Fuel Efficiency
> New Learned Driver
> Average Height under 5'6"

Hence not recommended Nexon as
a) Due to relative heavier kerb weight not as fuel efficient
b) Been Thick A Pillar - not best of visibility in corner
c) Cabin Floor is raised as against many other cars in segment, and if relative lower height and / or someone with orthopaedic issue he may not be as comfy in Nexon in ingress, egress

Hope should help !!

Sir. Purely talking from price point, On road price of venue S(o) IMT is 11.98Lakhs.. I am still confused whether to go with nexon XM(s) which has almost the same features but costs less at around 11 Lakhs only, including touch screen and rear camera accessories..
and whether Venue is worth the additional price of 1Lakh compared to nexon?

Sai Sahab,

Hi. Hope doing great
I have gone through your query and got in your requirements including confusion

See to speak of Venue IMT and Nexon XM Sunroof Manual
First of all the reason why Venue carries 1 Lakh premium over Nexon

Hyundai as a brand picthing itself for buyers who seek
a) More refined engine - Although both are 3 cylinder one but Engine NVH, refinement is lot better in Venue as against Nexon
b) Peace of mind Ownership Carries tag of Much more reliability and superior after sales service experience - Hyundai scores at top 2 in CSI (Customer satisfaction index) for last few years
c) Although upfront car price is higher, but scheduled service cost are near lowest if one follows scheduled service interval
d) Infotainment, Quality, Fit and Finish (dont be mistaken with build - its fit and finish from ratlles) is at par with the best in passenger car segment
e) Better Resale and slight better resale
f) Overall Drive, Handling response of Venue including body roll, cabin insulation and IMT convenience feels relative better from Urban SUV Perspective

Secondly why Nexon
a) If you seek immaculate build quality
b) 3 Tone Interiors, Digital Instrument Cluster and Sunroof feels more upmarket
c) Marginally more space in rear
d) Sports Mode is more performance oriented as against Venue but if you choose sports mode it will deliver much lower fuel efficiency, Eco mode although is fuel efficient but pretty dull in local city usage. If you choose Nexon in city mode then performance would be almost similar to Venue, infact at times Venue will feel sportier due to relative lesser weight in initial pickup
e) Sunroof as charm in near 1 Lakh lesser price over Venue

Overall
if you seek
a) Performance in day to day usage
b) Convenience of Drive
c) Gives more weight ton factory fitted touchscreen as against Sunroof
d) Reliability, After Sales, Fuel Efficiency
e) Better fit and finish, cabin Insulation

Opt for Venue S Option IMT

Else from
a) No Compromise on Build
b) Sports mode for performance on highway
c) Charm of Sunroof with more stylish interiors
and seek this Package in lesser price

Opt for Nexon XM Sunroof

Hope should help !!
