Dear Ashutosh ji,
Greetings !!
Irony in buying Used Fortuner remains the fact that asking price is what too high and even some owners after owning car for 3 to 4 yrs ask for a price which was what the exshowroom price at that point of time
Let me tell you Prices of 2nd Gen Fortuner in Second Half of 2018 was in range of 30.76 Lakh for 4x2 to 32.7 Lakh 4x4 Wheel Drive Automatic in exshowroom - translating to 34.5 Lakh to 37 Lakh On road price. So asking price of buyers if someone asking 40 Lakh is like highly exaggerated - means he is asking a price which is even higher than the price he bought the car and on top of it you would still be left with just 6 yrs shelve life basis 10 yr ban on Diesel car
Also - Insurance differential would be what paid by you and adding on if car driven like 60K to 70K odd kms then you have to spend higher for tyre replacement cost too.
I tell you Fortuner is a great all round car in bullet proof reliability, niggle free ownership but if you ask me
a) Comfort of Drive
b) Ease of manoeuvrability
c) Engine Noise Levels
then at any given day all new XUV700 outperform in Fortuner
The suspension is tuned towards comfort, light steering, engine feels more refined as against Diesel engine in noise levels
Yes Fortuner offer peace of mind ownership, road presence, performance, unmatched reliability but why to spend so high on a Used car
Infact at 35 Lakh you can even have 5 yr Landrover Discovery Sport - albeit with even lesser kms on odo - so its the hype which goes on with Fortuner.
Ford: Ford Endeavour basis driving dynamics, comfort again has an edge over Fortuner
But Ford is now out of Indian Market - if you wish you can play on Depreciation game by checking if theres an option in like 15 Lakh to 17 Lakh for a 4 yr Old Endeavour - i bet this discounted price will take care of all factors making it value buy.
Else - here are some options
1. Try if can get in XUV700 at a premium - although its not official but there can be possibilities of getting it much earlier.
2. Wait for Upcoming XUV900 - which Mahindra trademarked name for Alturas next gen - however no details on launch as of now but can face up during end 2022 or early 2023
