Hello I am looking to buy new car as early as possible. My budget is 10 to 12 lakh.
Following are the requirements as per chronology.
1. It has to be automatic.
2. It should fulfill criteria of safety.
3. Good service after sale
4. Milage should be optimum , not too less.
5. 70% city use and 30% intercity.

For me car is something I use for every small thing of day.

I am confused thinking so many options available.

What is the best buy for me ?

Greetings !!

Indeed there are host of options in the price range as referred including
> Hatchback, Sedan and even SUV Segment overlapping
> AMT to CVT Cars

Considering Safety, Convenience to drive in city, Good Mileage with Decent after sales service experience as every day usage car - the best bet can be Honda Amaze Vx CVT with reasons in favor

Positives
1. By city standards - this car comes with low turning radius, light steering with CVT is effortless in response and makes it easy for anyone looking to beat in city traffic yet with sheer convenience of drive

2. Honda Amaze scored 4 Star in African NCAP and similar model is what sold in Indian Market. Infact recent NCAP Ratings of City and Jazz further infuse confidence in Honda safety aspect with 4 star models been sold in India

3. Honda Amaze is what offered with 3 yr warranty as standard and further 2 yrs warranty can be extended for rs 10000 approx. While 3 yr Honda Prepaid AMC Maintenance cost Rs 13000 approx. Amaze service schedule is once a year and expect Honda reliability to be top notch and proven in after sales. To ensure low ownership maintenance - just stick to whats referred in service schedule along with alignment & balancing every 10,000 kms , be assured will keep your Honda in top condition without unnecessary add on

4. Fully loaded model with ABS, Dual Airbags, Rear Defogger, LED Front Fog Light, Automatic Climate Control, Rear View Camera, Height Adjustable Driver Seat, Rear Center Seat Armrest, LED Projector Headlights with LED DRL, Power Foldable ORVM with Turn Indicator along with 15 Inch Alloys and Multimedia AVN Touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple Car Play along with Voice Command. Yes other convenience features are standard

5. While on the move on intercity you get 15 Inch Wheels with R15 175 tyres, Cruise Control and also CVT Version is what offered in with paddle shifters where in can engage in Sports moe and override for relative fun experiece.

Downside

1. Not a enthusiast car, steering feedback is pretty average on high speed. So best to control car at 85 to 90 Kmph on highway as neither tyre profile suits for top notch handling and neither steering too.

2. Suspension is on more soft side, so if you driving on poor roads - you need to drive in extreme slow to avoid jerks

3. Lacks advanced safety of ESP and Hill Hold Assist

But considering requirement - Amaze Vx CVT is definite value buy and can well be considered
Suggest to test drive and experience.

Hope should help and feel free to connect for any follow up queries !!

Hi Sure
But SUV Cars tend to offer lower Mileage

If in case you seek SUV Car in Automatic, pls find inputs

1. Venue DSG is there in Automatic Transmission - Although a great choice but biggest issue is that a lag felt till 2000 rpm and car automatically upshifts at specified 2000 rpm. Secondly - mileage is not great too and rear seat space is compact. Additionally - 3 star safety rating is what best can be expected basis recent NCAP ratings of I20 and Creta - so not something an ideal choice basis requirement specified

2. Brezza - If you seek SUV in Automatic - i will rate upcoming Brezza Next Gen to be quiet an interesting value proposition. Not only is 4 star rated car, but even
> Changes like 6 Speed Automatic Transmission
> Smart Hybrid in Petrol for relative better mileage in SUV Segment
> Comfort Oriented Suspension
> Expect lot more enhancements in Interior Aesthetics and plastic quality in all new gen

New Brezza would just be next in line after XL6 launching today and expect Brezza Next Gen to be launched in coming 6 to 8 weeks

3. Nexon - A 5 star build car with fine enhancements in last 3 yrs and AMT is much improvised now and considering Interiors, build, performance in sports mode along with advanced safety of ESP does make a difference. Having said same
> Nexon is relative heavier weight car. If you drive in Eco Mode for deriving better mileage, you will lose on performance as this mode is best when driving in cruise on highway. City mode is improved and apt for day to day city use and Sports is fun but will come at cost of Mileage
> Somehow visibility is not as great in Nexon due to thick A Pillar and smaller rear windshield as against what felt in other SUV Cars
> Engine NVH although much improved but on highway still feel noisier
> AMT too although improved but at times can feel more jerky as against Torque converter

Suggestion
So if you seek SUV Car - my suggestion would be to wait for upcoming all new Brezza Vxi Automatic - which will likely tick in upper end of budget and possibly closest match to meet in need.

Hope should help !!

Thank you so much.
I will definitely look for Brezza.
For Tata cars , I am concerned for after sales service , the availability of parts. Else Nexon would be good too.

Along with Honda amaze , what other hatchback cars are good in this segment of automatic cars.

Hello Prajakta ji,

Hi, i read your query. From Hatchback perspective we have limited options in form of
1. Tata Altroz DCA
2. Hyundai I20 / NLine DCT
3. Honda Jazz CVT

out there along with Maruti Baleno AMT
Although AMT is what loosely pitched as Automtic in layman words, but I dont consider AMT as Automatic car, especially the entire concept transmission difference and gear shift change response as what happens in AMT and Conventional Automatic

Coming to Tata Altroz DCA: Well although its DCA and basis excellent build, handling, styling, feature loaded the biggest weakling yet remains to be noisier 1.2 Litre 3 Cylinder Engine where performance too feels pretty average. Additionally kind of premium charged over Manual Transmission.

Secondly technology where this dual clutch Automatic uses planetary gearbox - i cant vouch on reliability as planetary gearbox never used in Dual Clutch Automatic transmission. Unlike other DCT or DSG Cars Tata Altroz uses single shaft

Hyundai I20 / Line DCT
Cant recommend as 3 star rated car and considering safety as important priority referred.

Honda Jazz CVT
Impressive choice and can well be considered over Amaze CVT if you dont like going ahead with Sedan Car.

Hope should help !!

Hi,

1. Altroz DCA already shared, still putting across again - Well although its DCA and basis excellent build, handling, styling, feature loaded the biggest weakling yet remains to be noisier 1.2 Litre 3 Cylinder Engine where performance too feels pretty average. Additionally kind of premium charged over Manual Transmission feels like relative over priced.

Secondly technology where this dual clutch Automatic uses planetary gearbox - i cant vouch on reliability as planetary gearbox never used in Dual Clutch Automatic transmission. Unlike other DCT or DSG Cars Tata Altroz uses single shaft

2. Tata punch: Yes Punch is known for ease of ingress, egress, build, Fuel efficiency in city can expect in 13+ and on highway in range of 17 kmpl AMT does the job if seek very relaxed drive, but
a) Engine NVH Levels feels relative higher
b) Creep mode slight slow
c) Car is tuned so as if driven in relaxed way then will like, else power performance is pretty average
d) Steering feels rather heavier for within city usage

3. Hyundai I20 : This car does not suit in need as is a 3 star safety rated one.

Hope should help !!

Sure Dr Sahab,

See Tata Nexon as a product is what regularly been improvised with
a) Engine Noise and vibrations level reduced to considerable extent
b) Feels better sorted with lot more stable product as what it was 4 yr back
c) City Mode is much more improved with decent drive within local usage
d) Sports mode turns to be very fun to drive experience
e) ESP, ABS EBD and Dual Airbags are now standard and car in digital instrument cluster feel more stylish

Needless to mention Nexon as a product matures and even with launch of premium range
a) Nexon Ev
b) Harrier
c) Safari

Tata Motors also periodically upgrade in after sales service network with much better experience

Having said same, still if you compare
a) Engine Noise level - Honda 4 cylinder petrol engine feels more silent as against 3 cylinder engine as used in Tata
b) CVT feels better tuned and jerk free in local usage city conditions having controlled speed
c) Honda after sales and reliability index to view still scores higher as against Tata
d) Expect scheduled service cost, warranty cost lower as against Nexon

Tata Nexon yes is much improved, but if you ask me whether its niggle free or noise level as low as in Honda or as engine as refined as Honda or transmission wise - i will rate Honda a notch above

Future & Resale Value
Honda cars India is in Indian market for close to 25 yrs and now on verge of selling close to 2 Million cars
Yes in terms of financials - Honda reported loss in last 3 out of 5 financial years and overall is a loss making proposition
But with high reliability, after sales and future plans where Honda to invest in EV and a definite portion will come to Indian market - we are still bullish on Honda resale and reliability index.

Amaze and city are some which will always remain in portfolio of Honda as strong brand positioning

Hope should help !!

Thank you for your reply. I am currently confused. I want to go for TATA cars but heard the service centres are few and rush is too much. Tata must be working on increasing the outlets but its work in progress. So not yet come to any final decision.
Nexon , Jazz , punch amongst this will be my option. But I heard honda is going to stop production of jazz in indian market, is it true ?

Dear Dr Sahab,

Hi, if you wish to go ahead with Tata Car and your heart says so basis build quality, host of enhancements as done to car and safety and other styling features and apprehensive about service experience - let me tell you that Tata Motors offers
a) P2p service package which cover wear & tear
b) Extended Warranty Pack upto 5 yr
c) AMC Maintenance Packages

For first time buyer of Tata Cars or someone having apprehension can consider opting for one or multiple packages as part of Tata Care plan
Do note that Tata Motors now selling
> Harrier
> Safari
> Nexon EV

which all are premium products and in next few hours to upgrade with many more premium offering too
If your heart says Nexon and only apprehensive about service - be assured Tata is much much improved and service experience csn be enhanced by opting for extended warranty / amc or p2p plan

Hope should help !!

Even I am skeptical about the new DCA being used in Tata Altroz, whether it is reliable or not...
Honda amaze is in market since long and 4 cylinder engine also smooth but below issues are confusing to take decision -
1. On speed brakers, suspension is stiff due to which jerks come
2. Steering becomes hard on high speeds
