Hi Team,

My query is regarding the whole process that goes in once the car is allocated to our name on basis of the booking amount.

I had booked a Nissan Magnite XV CVT during the 1st week of March 2022 with a commitment from the dealership that my car will be delivered by the end of March 2022. Now, the dealer called me informing that the car has been allocated to me and is asking to make full payment (proceed with loan disbursement as I am purchasing on finance).

I asked him to share the Chassis & Engine Number but he denied to share the same by saying that he can't share these details only on the basis of booking amount and asked me to proceed with loan formalities.

My query is, Is it true that dealers can't share the chassis & engine number only on the basis of booking amount??
If so, then can they not share these details if I go ahead with making the downpayment and proceed with Loan disbursement only after doing the PDI.

The car has not yet arrived at the dealer stockyard and still is in the Chennai plant. As per dealer, the car will move from their plant and shall arrive by around 20th March.

I am planning to pay a total of 1.5 Lakhs as down payment and the rest will be financed.
What should be the right approach in my case and what amount should I pay to them at this point??

Further, my other query is regarding the logistics and handling charges of INR 6500 which they are asking me to pay. Are these charges legal??? How do I get them waived off??

I look forward to your valuable revert at the earliest as it's a bit urgent for me.

Dear Umair,

Hi, Greetings !!

Coming to query specific - My query is, Is it true that dealers can't share the chassis & engine number only on the basis of booking amount??

Answer is as a norm at time of making a booking a customer ask if dealer has specified color and variant in stock.
If yes then he ask for VIN chassis number and manufacturing month, else booking is done and whenever a dealer gets specified variant as allocation from manufacturer or even in transit - dealer showroom tells customer about same and ask for balance downpayment.

So - if dealer now referred that he has got specified variant as allocated - he must have received VIN Details which should be what shared with customer.

Let me share with you Booking and Payment Process as a norm as whats happening
1. Make Initial Booking with Dealer Showroom with clear breakup of
> Final Receivable Amount (i.e. amount you need to pay against ex-showroom, insurance, registration, hp charges etc) against requisite model variant and color

> Free Committed Accessories, Insurance Plan with Covers (with name of insurance company to choose from - if going with dealer showroom), Cancellation Charges (if any need to be specified)

> Also, do mention to sales consultant that you will do PDI (Pre delivery inspection) before paying off Registration & Insurance Amount and thats must.

Step 2 - When going with Finance
If going on finance - apply for Car Loan Finance - only when dealer gives you confirmation that car dispatched from Plant or delivery expected in next 3 weeks. Then only submit necessary documents for loan approval and post loan sanctioned, dont sign loan disbursement documents till the time the car in stock.

Step 3 - Wait for Further Payments till time Car arrives in dealer stockyard
Ask for VIN Chassis number, and ensure to always get through Email.
Do note that all in transit cars VIN numbers are shared with dealer by OEM including Color, Variant details.

Step 4 - Balance Payment (except Registration amount, except Insurance amount)
Once VIN number is satisfactory, Ask dealer on when can do pre delivery inspection (as and when car in stock)
You can release in any balance amount as you wish but except

a) Registration Amount
b) Insurance amount
and ask for Pre Delivery Inspection.

If taking finance - you may make balance margin money payment to showroom but except
a) Registration Amount
b) Insurance amount

May sign Loan agreement and other loan kit but dont sign ECS and neither handover Security PDC till time vehicle inspection is done.

Step 5 - After Vehicle Inspection
Do PDI and After doing a Pre Delivery Inspection of Car, and if to satisfaction release in

> registration amount and
> insurance amount

If taking car on finance, release in ECS, security PDC and registration amount and insurance amount to dealer. Once dealer submit in your ECS and SPDC as final document - bank disburses loan amount to dealer showroom

Step 6 - Take Car Delivery on specified date
Then take delivery on specified date

Recommendation for you
Pls follow above Payment process
In any event a dealer sales consultant deviates, do interact with dealer showroom manager or if required involve Manufacturer customer care
In no event loan should be disbursed before doing PDI and never release registration and Insurance amount before doing PDI

However, yes balance downpayment (car exshowroom price - booking amount - loan disbursement amount) as goodwill trust between customer and dealer may be released by customer, if dealer confirms that vehicle allocated but VIN will share once is in transit.

For Dealer Handling Charges
Many customers got waiver, suggest to refer this post on Dealer Handling Charge Waiver where using instances many customers got waiver of same
