Dear Ashru ji,
Greetings !!
Tata Nexon is a heavy weight crossover - almost like 15% higher kerb weight against Brezza, WRV, Venue, Sonet kinds
Adding on
> Turbo Petrol Engine
> Wider Tyres
Mileage is something which is bound to be impacted in Nexon and thats a reason why Tata Motors decided to give Multi Mode where car performance is detuned to extent of 15% in city and further 15% in Eco Mode to optimise in fuel efficiency. Had the case otherwise - it would have been single sports mode as thats the one which comes with highest excitement levels but at the cost of Mileage
Thus, the Manufacturer gave that choice to customer end to decide on how they want to drive car
> Enthusiastically and further low mileage - sports mode
> Drive in slight sedate way like City Mode for regular commute and Eco Mode for Highway cruise for better Mileage - Combination of Eco & City Mode
Coming to Nexon Petrol and Diesel
See - Nexon Petrol is considerably been improved in recent years and rounds of silent upgrades. Car Performance in 1.2 Turbo is pretty impressive in sports mode and looks satisfactory in city mode (earlier city mode was dull)
Although yes Engine Noise levels are there but its reduced considerably as against Nexon BS4 which was up for sale in 2019
But as what mentioned its a heavier crossover - so one need to set expectation accordingly
If you care the best of both worlds as
> Performance
> Mileage
Certainly Tata Nexon Diesel should be what pick. This is a 4 cylinder engine as against Petrol which is what 3 Cylinder ENgine, and more torquey too with 260 NM Torque.
Yes Diesel engine has more noise at higher RPM and has some amount of vibrations too at lower end - but if you seek combination of Mileage and Performance - be assured that Nexon Diesel in similar drive conditions can deliver you 30% better mileage.
So if say
> For commute within city Nexon petrol Mileage in City Mode is 11 to 12 Kmpl, expect Diesel one to deliver you 14 to 15.5 KMpl
> For commute on highway Nexon petrol in Mileage in Eco Mode is 16 to 17 Kmpl, expect Diesel one to deliver you 22 KMpl+ easily
However much too dependent on driving style, roads, average speed and is even possible to get higher Mileage in Petrol - but at same time if you drive in Diesel expect even further better fuel efficiency to extent of 30% over Petrol Model
and needless to refer Diesel Engine too is revv friendly in Mid range.
For Service Cost: Not significant difference - at max Rs 2000 a year higher service cost for Diesel

Important for BS6 Diesel Cars
Now BS6 Diesel cars comes with Diesel Particulate filter where role is to trap NOX Pollutants and burn
When DPF gets clogged - DPF warning light turns on in instrument cluster. It needs regen technique to burn
So the way is to keep the car running on road ideally on 3rd Gear for around 20 minutes in regular speed of 50 to 80 Kmph until regeneration is complete.
DPF can get clogged rather earlier - if majority of drive is within city condition and at lower speed
However once on highway or expressway - this regen process is activated automatically to burn NOX
So - thats something you need to be aware of if considering Diesel car as should not come as surprise post purchase.
Hope should help !!
