Hi

I live in Gurgaon, i want to buy a new car, budget is upto 12-13 lacs, driving in city almost 40 KM a day. I am looking for a fuel efficient Automatic car and not restricted to sedan or mini suv.
taken test rides of Sonet HTC 7DCT Petrol and Ciaz Automatic, found Ciaz more smooth, however sonet os more feature rich with sunroof and other features.
need your suggestion on the better option between the two or any other option which you can suggest.

Dear Ankit ji,

Greetings !!

As referred that
> Maximum Usage is going to be in city conditions
> Fuel Efficiency an important criteria

Although yes Sonet DCT at any given day feels
> more quicker
> lightning quick gear shift
> more fun to drive

But - I wont really recommend DCT for a user who has maximum in city usage. Reason - DCT is tuned for someone who seeks mid range performance with more fun and turbo charged engine delivers great mid range - but within city usage, you wont really unleash in true potential of Turbo DCT and yes theres tubro lag under 2000 rpm when car upshift to next gear. Adding on the fact that Sonet has relative stiffer suspension

So point is when maximum usage is in city drive
> a CVT / IVT Transmisson is what ideal and
> car should have rather comfort oriented suspension

Yes Ciaz Automatic looks like great pick
> Comfort oriented suspension
> 4 Speed AT is best tuned for city usage
> Fuel Efficient
> Reliable
> 1.5 Litre Naturally Petrol engine has good low end

Although yes as alternative is Honda Jazz Zx CVT with good space, engine refinement, paddle shifters and Features like Sunroof, Multi Mode Camera, LED Headlights but Ciaz definite feels relatively more responsive in mid range - primarily due to 1.5 Litre Petrol Engine and comfort oriented suspension

My recommendation is - Ciaz Zeta Automatic is best buy but if you seek to give more preference to lifestyle features - suggest to test drive in Honda Jazz Zx CVT and make a pick.

To update; Jazz BS6 is updated with annual service interval - earlier it was bi-annual - so service cost will be competitive
Jazz available with 3 yr warranty as standard and same extendable to 5 yr for just Rs 9000. So - ownership cost will be pretty competitive.

Hope should help !!

Dear Ankit Sahab

Hi, Hope doing well
See Ciaz is a great city choice car but yes does not feel premium

If you feel like getting an Automatic Car which is
> high on fuel efficiency
> carries lifestyle features including Sunroof

Diesel AT My recommendation is Kia Sonet HTX Diesel Automatic
An excellent choice with the fact that
> Good Lower Running cost, in terms of Fuel Efficiency where in can expect in 14 to 15 Kmpl in city usage
> 6 Speed Torque Converter with 115 PS Power and 250 NM Torque delivers a great experience
> Lifestyle Features as Electric Sunroof and LED Headlights and yes Comes with ESP which may prove handy as add on safety while experiencing high speed drive on highway

Yes suspension is slight on firm note but i will say delivers balanced ride, handling dynamics

Petrol AT: Else if you seek Petrol one then although have choices like Tata Nexon XZA Plus AMT
> Although AMT (and not Automatic) but pretty much improvised by Tata Motors
> Suspension is not as stiff as Venue or Sonet
> Better In Cabin Seating Space

But you wont get in Fuel Efficiency as what desired
In case Mileage is important factor - Ciaz Automatic is one among most fuel efficient Automatic cars in price segment as what recommended earlier but yes that doesnt come with Sunroof

If Sunroof is equally an important factor check out Hyundai Verna Sx IVT at upper end of your budget which should give a balance of
> Lifestyle Features
> Fuel Efficiency
> Comfort Oriented Drive

to a great extent

Hope should help !!

Thanks Gagan Ji.

As you mentioned Sonet Diesel 6AT is a good option, just want a suggestion considering the 10 year registration for diesel car in ncr, will it give a good resale after 8/9 year in comparison to ciaz. What resale value we can expect from both Sonet Diesel 6AT and ciaz AT.

also can you help with after sales service cost for both cars.

Thanks

Hi,

Depends on 2 things

1. If rule sustains by then (as BS6 Diesel cars emission level are very close to Petrol Version and infact emission reduced by upto 80% in BS6 Diesel Cars as against BS3 Diesel cars) then only option would be to take NOC and sell car in
> Punjab
> Rajasthan
> Uttarakhand
and select district of Haryana

as no such restriction or capping on Diesel cars and likely may not come too.
This will give close to 90% of fair value at that point of time

2. If rule withdrawn - then yes cheers no reason to worry

For after sales service - Kia introduced in 5 yr / 50K Kms prepaid AMC Plan which cost in close to Rs 28000 including Aligment and Balancing for 1.5 Diesel AT. Suggest to go ahead with same at time of buying car by locking in service cost inflationary aspect

Ciaz average service cost will be in range of Rs 5000 to 6000 too.

Thanks Gagan Ji

Tough decision to make, taken test ride for Sonet 7DCT Petrol, not at all smooth with lags, however Ciaz Auto was a breeze. still to test ride a Sonet Diesel AT. only thing I am worried for Ciaz is if they come out with a facelift in 22.

Hi,

DCT does gear upshift at 2000 rpm - thus bound to get lag
But mid range is awesome. Yes pls have test drive of Sonet Diesel Auto - this 6 speed Torque Converter has strong punch in pickup over 1800 rpm

Ciaz is naturally aspirated engine - more smooth at low end,

Hope should help !!

Hi Gagan Ji

one of my friend suggested to check Hyundai Verna 15 vtvt sx ivt over ciaz alpha AT as it is more stylish and have a moonroof too, need your opinion on the car, regarding features, performance and mileage, the car has a cvt and don't have a hill hold feature, what impact that can make.

Thanks

Hi,

As you seek a fuel efficient Automatic car as first requirement - do note that IVT Transmission although fuel efficient but Verna IVT is not one among best fuel efficient car. If you compare against Ciaz Automatic - expect mileage to be lower by 10% in real world drive conditions

Secondly - Verna Sx will marginally exceed budget to upper end by close to 5%
However, yes as product per se - Verna IVT definite a lot more impressive pick against Ciaz basis the way drives, build, premium features, styling and road presence. But Ciaz exceeds in
> Space
> Fuel Efficiency
> Relative More comfort in city drive
> Upfront Costing

Hope should help !!

Thanks dor your eesponse, pls help to understand the following.

Sx ivt does not have hill hold, what impact it will make?
What mileage we can expect in ncr b2b traffic?
Is the ground clearance doable?
What will be the approx maintenance cost?

Hi,

1. As your maximum usage is within city and fact that Automatic car have creep function which will still attempt to move car up (which coming from basement) - Hill Hold Assist if not there is not a deal breaker

2. Mileage is based on number of factors including traffic, average speed, loading, brake usage, tyre pressure etc
But anything around 11 to 12 Kmpl can be a reasonable expectation in city usage condition

3. Ground clearance For Delhi / NCR usage - yes

4. It will be close similar to Creta 1.5 - may check on Hyundai Creta Service cost

Hope should help !!

Hi everyone,

What about Brezza/Urban cruiser? Even I’m looking for a car for city usage and will be travelling around 50kms everyday. Brezza AT is a safe car plus it has a claimed efficiency of around 18-19kmpl.

Sharing you a dealer personnel number at Nexa Pasco Gurgaon
I met him during a demo test drive

Quiet agressive guy in sales completion (although he has slight issue in speak but he seemed like a hard worker) - share the quote he will likely make it better.

Should we go for extended warranty by Maruti, in one of your video on auto vars you suggested to look for gear protection topup,
I checked this with the dealer he said that engine protection is there bit there is no specific gear topup available, i also ch3cked on policy bazar and havent found that on any policy.

Pls suggest.

Any idea when belta will be launched, will it offer different colour options.

Hi,

Extended warranty is recommended if average yearly usage going to be more than 6000 Kms

Engine & Gearbox is part of extended warranty provided its not damaged due to
> consequential Damage
> water ingress
> Damage due to accident

If need to cover damage to gearbox check out HDFC Ergo Plans (where except consequential loss) same will be covered,
Hope should help !!
