Planning to buy new car, and first ever car for me and my family, ( earlier drived Alto K10, Swift, Wagon R for sometime ) Budget 6 - 8 lacks and Preferred choice would be TATA & want to go for Petrol only.

Avg monthly run around 600 Kms ( mostly City , 20% Highway , good road conditions ).
Family Size : 3 Adults + 2 Kids ( Age 8 - 12 years )

Considering my usage and petrol price hike, should I opt for CNG or not ? my big concern for company fitted CNG is paying premium of around 60 K for CNG variant, and compromising on boot space , would be worth to compromise and VFM in log run to opt for CNG ?

- Should I wait for Tiago CNG or Altroz CNG ? or should go with Punch ? , Max by December planning to buy car.

What would be best choice for me :
- Punch pure or Adventure , Tiago CNG or Altroz XM+ or suggest me some other brand, love to drive in peaceful manner and enjoy it, not required powerful speedy drive.

Dear Bharat ji,

Greetings !!
Appreciate interest as you made specific for Tata Cars for improved safety aspect.

Starting with Fuel Type
See CNG as of now available as option in
> Maruti Suzuki
> Hyundai Cars

and they charge a Premium of 85K to 90K in CNG Cars which translate to final On road price difference of close to 1 Lakh
It was in BS4 regime where the price difference was 60K to 70K - but in BS6 is substantially increased in

If Tata do introduce in CNG Cars in there model line up by this year end - we do anticipate a similar tune price difference in there upcoming range. Even if not same - expect minimum 80K Exshowroom Price difference translating to 90K on road price difference

Adding up
> Average yearly higher service cost basis CNG Filter, quicker replacement of fuel filter, CNG Checkup - if average out will translate to Rs 1500 a year
> Plus higher Insurance Premium which will be like Rs 2000 a year for higher OD Premium cost

So if your average monthly running going to be say 600 Kms a month expect
> Running cost difference where in can expect outflow of Rs 4500 for Petrol Fuel cost basis real life scenario
> CNG basis present rates would cost in under Rs 2000 a month (but pls note that CNG Prices also set to increase substantially basis fact that Natural Gas prices are at its record highs in international market, but under government pressure are what IGL, Gujarat Gas and other companies only increased prices at limited extent. What it means is that in future - we can expect CNG prices to also increase)

Thus if you choose CNG - can save in minimum Rs 25000 a year basis your average running as specified and in span of 4 years can recover in upfront amount - which looks attarctive

However we wont still recommend CNG
> Your car performance will be impacted, Tata Cars 1.2 Litre Petrol Engine performance in existing engines although is mediocre and further 15% drop due to CNG would be like too much
> Boot Space would be compromised with almost negligible space left

You will not enjoy the feel factor with CNG
Plus it wiill take long 4 yrs to recover in cost and then gain on savings aspect + CNG Prices to be higher in future too and extent of hike for commercial CNG would be even further higher

So recommended to opt for Petrol car

Which is Best Buy
My recommendation either
> Punch Adventure Rhytm
or
> Tata Altroz XM+

While both offers impeccable safety - its you who has to decide on whether Punch as raised car with SUV kind Handling bu wiith slight firm steering which is better suited for highway and bad roads or Altroz for good city roads with space and possibly slight better fuel efficiency and better styling

May make a choice accordingly.
Hope should help !!

Dear Gagan ji,

Many thanks for your coprehencive response which helps me to make firm decsion.

Have seen your detailed review of punch drive experience and After price launch also., Impressed by your balanced views and recommendations., Alredy added your channel in my subscription list.

Extending this now to be precise, at later stage on after market CNG kit fitting once Govt will aprove Retro CNG kit fitting in BS6 vehicle., which car will give me reasonable boot space, Altroz or Punch After CNG fitting ? Punch boot space declared as 366 Litre and Altroz 342 liter but visualy Altroz boot space feels bigger, Is it correct ?

How does it effect of Insurance part ?

As I understand After 5 years EV market will dominate in new car market with vide range of vehicle range available for selection., Intend to opt for it in that time span, thus consideiring resale value of my vehie after
5 years.

How do you see resale value after 5 years, Petrol will give more resale value or CNG fitted vehicle ,? What will be second hand market prediction.

FYI I am 5'1" and took test drive of Punch and liked it's driving position gives me better comfort

& Lastly suggest me max VFM variant for Punch or Altroz, one thing is sure I'll not opt for top end model in both car after your review of punch, due to Budget limitations.

Thanks

Thanks

Pls find point wise reply

1. Altroz is more wider while Punch has a deeper boot space
Its altroz which would be more suitable in terms of limited space left over after CNG Kit

2. Whenever Retro fitment of CNG Kit will be allowed and you install same then CNG will need to be endorsed in RC and same then need to be endorsed in Insurance too (by paying additional premium) to let Insurance policy remains valid.

3. No Impact on resale value of Internal Combustion Engine cars (Petrol, Petrol with CNG, Diesel ) as used cars barely will be having EV in used car market.

4. Yes Punch is a tall car with superior headroom, easy ingress and egress and remains ad adantage out there.

5. Altroz Value is XE Rhythm or XM+, Punch is Punch Pure Rhythm or Adventure Rhythm

Hope should help !!

Dear Bharat Sahab,

Yes - but basis fact that Tata Punch shares
> same 1.2 Litre engine as what used in existing Tata Cars
> Parts been shared with Tiago and Altroz
> Chassis platform as what used in Altroz

Theres not any concern on relaibility issues been the same already addressed and resolved in
Expect good reliability experience with Punch

The given video is posted for cars build on
> New platform
> New Engine
where nothing much known and thus better to wait to get a first hand customer feedback reviews

So for Punch - can go ahead and yes Punch Adventure is good buy or if seek slight lifestyle experience may checkout Punch Adventure Rhythm
In gterms of quotation - as you are aware that its a new model been launched - so no discounts but yes
> can save on choosing in Insurance Online
> Pls validate on RTO Tax by checking through MyCarHelpline Tax calculator
