I am 29 years old, recently married male planning for the first car in my family. In the near future, I need a car for 5 people to sit comfortably.
I am working with a PSB, transferable job- so waiting for BH series to kick-in in the presently residing city and state- Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

I have a budget of 13.5 Lakh, but I have started to take Test Drives of various cars starting from Kushaq (1.0 MT) itself. It made a great impact on my decision making abilities. No other cars could impress me especially in the matter of interiors and build. Xuv 300 came very close to all the boxes I checked.

*To be honest, I will have less than 1000 Kms running per month on these new wheels.
*I prefer Manual, I love good engine, that's where kushaq impressed me, and unfortunately didn't test drive Xuv 300 yet, but happened to just see the W8 optional version personally.
*I dont like to revv in the traffic in order to move the vehicle inch by inch, at the same time Kushaq's mileage pinches me a bit. I think xuv 300 beats kushaq here.
* For Kushaq, I and my wife decided to go ahead and arrange for that extra money which hopefully may prove worthy, but again worried about the mileage, pickup in traffic and carrying capacity of 4 or 5 people

I ruled out nexon, Venue, seltos for various reasons like customer service, value for money and cheap feels respectively.

Now I'm really confused between Kushaq 1.0 MT ambition model (which is a bit pricy and have to squeeze out all the juice I can in order to afford it .)and Xuv 300 Diesel or petrol.

The bottomline is, I can go an extra mile for kushaq, but want to know if it is worth it, or if I can go with Xuv 300 diesel for my less than 1000 Kms per month trips ? Im worried about diesel engine maintenance, NVH in xuv300.

I am open to any other suggestions although I have ruled out nexon, venue, seltos etc.

Thanks in Advance for your kind and expert opinion.

Dear Kratos,

Greetings !!

Sure, basis expectations and feedback yes
> Skoda Kushaq is a great choice in handling, Performance character - you can really experience the stability and grip of this SUV with a superb mid range performance.
> Immaculate Build Quality is another USP
> Car Braking is top notch, AC although noisier but pretty effective
> Cabin Space well organised for 4 Members with impressive legroom and headroom space is decent too. Boot Space although on papers may look smaller but is a deep boot space
> Skoda India offering 4 year warranty complimentray. 4 Year Prepaid AMC Pack cost around Rs 25K and cover all scheduled service. Warranty also extendable to 6 yr on extra sum of Rs 30K. Highly recommend to opt for longest warranty tenor and AMC pack if you plan to go ahead with this SUV

> Yes Turbo lag slight there under 1800 rpm - although not problematic as even low end pulling power is good - but to unleash this SUV best to experience beyond 1800 rpm
> Rear Center Seat middle seat is firm and raised and thus is comfortable only for 4 Members. If you considering this car for 5 Member family possibly someone sitting on rear middle seat will be on with complaint
> Clutch feels definite on stiffer side in Manual Transmission due to long travel range. If considering car for highway or expressway although this can be great choice but for day to day city use one really need to get adjusted to this long clutch and driving in bumper to bumper traffic or city use may not be as convenient as most other cars
> Although Skoda India Offering yes smaller 1 Litre TSI Petrol Engine - but a reasonable expectation can be 11 to 12 Kmpl in terms of fuel efficiency in city condition and anything around 15 Kmpl can be expected on highway - so your car running cost would be relative higher

Now coming to your requirement:- This MT Transmission Model will almost cost in 14.75 Lakh including Warranty and AMC Maintenance Pack and still is essentially a 4 member car

My strong recommendation: Basis Budget per se if you seek
> Performance
> Impressive Build
> Space Aspect too

Mahindra XUV300 W8 Diesel looks like a very impressive choice except the only big 3 cons which is
> Limited Boot Space (infact boot as big as Swift)
> Relative Plain Interiors (will be slight disappointed)
> Cabin does not feel as well insulated as can experience in wind noise in cabin

Rest with respect to
> SPace: can actually seat in 3 average size adults at ease on rear seat
> Performance: Will love in 1.5 Litre Diesel Engine with 115 NM Power and 300 NM Torque - this engine is so torquey that will instant fall in love
> Multi Mode Steering : Can adjust steering to sport mode for better stance on highway and choose in comfort mode for day to day city use
> Clutch is not as stiff as in Skoda Kushaq (despite of fact comparing Diesel car against a Petrol one)
> Your car running cost which would be like 25% lower against Skoda Kushaq
> Price Point where XUV300 W8 Diesel post discounts and including warranty will be like close to 12.5 Lakh in your zone

I suggest to test drive and experience in XUV300 - although some cons are there of boot, plain interiors and noise levels - but to view this car is a great pick in terms of value and requirement you have

Hope should help !!

Thank you admin for your quick and insightful reply. That was an amazing summary.

Surprisingly , it happened that i took test drive of w8 optional in XUV300. And you are right, i just fell in love with this car.
Hit all the sweet spots. And besides, i did not find those drawbacks as "real drawbacks" that may impact my decision. I also took my wife on the spin. We are really happy about xuv 300. Will choose W8 diesel based on:
1) running costs
2) maintenance
3) customer service of mahindra.

Will be thankful if you could provide some insight on these matters.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Kratos Sahab,

Pls find Inputs

1. Mahindra although from customer service perspective is not the benchmark but they are
> Improving significantly and to view can experience a decent experience on new age Mahindra Cars
> Been XUV300 is now close to 30 month+ old product - all initial niggles been resolved
> Now with focus on XUV700 along with Thar - the target profile is upmarket and thus service experience is now a notch better

2. Maintenance: We will soon be updating XUV300 Service cost on site
As i checked XUV300 service schedule revamped to 10K kms for oil change now (Earlier it was 20K Kms)
To estimates - average paid service cost of XUV300 Diesel would be close to Rs 7000 a year for scheduled replacements along with wheel alignment and balancing

3. Running cost : Mileage Depends on traffic condition, average speed, loading, tyre pressure, idling time
But for most owners - 14 to 15 Kmpl in city and 17 to 19 Kmpl on highway can be called a reasonable expectation

Hope should help !!
