Hello Mycarhelpline,

I am currently residing in Lucknow and planning on buying a car in the range of 10.5-11.5 lakh ( on road price).

I have shortlisted three cars, but not able to decide:-
1. Nexon XZ+
2. S Cross Zeta
3. MG Astor Style.

Requirements (not necessarily in the order below):
1. Average Running of around 600 km per month. So Only Petrol Variant. No Diesel or Electric Variants.
2. Mainly City Run but also have to move to Tier 2 and Tier 3 city and many a times have to stay there for 10-15 days. Not preferring Sedan as small cities and village roads have their own problems.
3. I am a gentle driver, not much a speed enthusiast but good power always comes handy.
4. Good Mileage and Drive Comfort
5. Reliable Engine
6. Good and easy Service network.
7. Good Handling.
8. Good Resale Value
9. Option of switching to CNG later on
10. Safety

1. Turbo Engine reliability and Fuel Efficiency
2. Shri Nitin Gadkari is very vocal about adopting Flex- Engine in very near future. It will have impact on Resale value of vehicle as well as on daily running cost also. It seems that government is not in opinion of reducing petrol prices but reducing it through mixing ethanol in it.
3. Service quality
4. Operational Cost and reliability of Product as a whole.

Regards and Thanks

Dear Amit Sahab,

Greetings !!

Astor cant comment on 1.5 Litre Petrol Engine as could not experience same.
But from requirement per se too where in referred about
> Handling
> After Sales Service Network
> Reliable Engine
> Drive Comfort

cant recommend MG Astor as nothing much know about this in terms of 110 PS Power and 144 NM Torque on performance aspect
Also MG After sales service network and handling dynamics - has apprehension to it

For other cars in between S Cross Zeta and Tata Nexon and basis your need, requirement as specified

S Cross Positives
> Maruti Suzuki offers better after sales service experience and from reliability perspective expect in relative more peace of mind ownership
> Naturally aspirated Petrol Engine are more preferable in converting to CNG Aspect
> As you referred you like driving in relaxed way, Naturally aspirated Petrol Engine offers linear pickup as against Turbo Petrol Engine which has marginal lag at lower end of RPM. Although Nexon has bare minimal lag at low end - but expect a difference in pickup where S Cross would be more advisable for driver who like gentle drive. This 1.5 Litre engine also has enough grunt when you slight go hard on acceleration too
> Well Tata Nexon feature now in one among top 10 cars, S Cross on other hand is a low selling product - but to the level of interaction we have with used car dealers - Maruti Cars still command a better position in resale perspective. Tata although is improving but still need time to prove to catch in used car market
> Feel more spacious in cabin with superior rear seat comfort, 2 stage recline angle with ease of ingress and egress - S Cross feels more premium
> Cabin feels better insulated. Expect Noise levels from engine and wind noise lot lesser as against Tata
> Expect S Cross to offer slight superior fuel efficiency
> Been Ground clearance not as high as Nexon - body roll is more stable

Nexon Positives
> Unmatched Build Quality with advanced safety of ESP
> Somehow handling character of this car with more impressive steering dynamics makes it good to consider
> Turbo Petrol Engine feels more fun especially in Sports Mode where Nexon is a gem and impressive mid range makes it a fun experience for driving enthusiast
> Somhow Interiors in 3 Tone feels more bright and now digital instrument cluster, Grand Grand Central Console with Front Armrest & Sliding Tambour Door makes Nexon feels slight more premium in Cabin Experience as against all black interiors of S Cross

But overall basis need perspective - Maruti S Cross looks like better pick and is what recommended choice.

Hope should help !!

Thank you for your respense Gangan ji. It is much valuable. I was also inclining towards S Cross but was confused as others are also good product and market is going crazy towards Nexon and Astor.
I would request one more thing as it was missed in above post. What's your take on SCross build quality as maruti cars build is almost always very poor. Is it comparable to Brezza which is 4 star rated or even below that?

Amit ji,

Have personally made a check with Director Grade Official at Maruti Suzuki
Here are some takeaways

1. S Cross based on Heartect chassis Platform - yes is a fact and reality

2. Heartect Platform is now used in across Maruti Suzuki range of cars including S Presso too. Somehow premium range Ertiga which also based on heartect platform scored 3 star in Global NCAP

3. S Cross is premium most offering by Maruti Suzuki and degreee of advanced high intensity grade steel is best across Maruti cars

4. Brake bite is best across Maruti range and all 4 disc brake makes a difference

My understanding of this product is - Although on heartect platform (which though not proved much) but Maruti Suzuki offering sheet metal quality which is of top notch grade for offering superior safety experience and if driven in controlled speed by following traffic rules - S Cross can well be worth a consideration
