Dear Gagan/Team -

I am based in New Delhi and looking to buy a car for around 10-12.5 Lacs (at max, on road Delhi).

Quick Background: I have been driving (Manual) Optra 1.6 Elite Petrol for more than 7 years (bought second hand). So, this would be my first new car experience. Currently I am very satisfied with Optra but since it will be completing 15 years (this December) therefore i have to change.

My requirements:

Family of 4 people
12,000 KM annual run (50% City 50% Highway)
Good insulation with Stable car on road (because of Optra experience, it's still way better even today along with good cabin space).
Since i have been driving sedan from long time, so wanted go with crossover/Suv type with good road presence
Wanted to switch over to automatic now because of Delhi traffic, earlier i was planning for Kushaq Ambition AT but its going out of budget (4 lacs extra) so i dropped that.
Shortlisted cars so far:

Nexon XZA+ (i have taken a text drive, i am ok with AMT transmission but worried about rattling sound which started coming after some time as per feedback from others and i have also experienced the same while taking test drive, kindly suggest?) - In my opinion Nexon fulfills all my requirements except only 2 years warranty and cabin insulation. I have also driven around a 300 KM Nexon manual (around 6 months old car, back in 2019, that time i did not experience any rattling sound etc.) on mathura highway and it was quite satisfying and that is why i have decided to go with Nexon but now after hearing the rattling sound issues, i am confused.
WRV Vx I am happy to go with this but only downside is no automatic and no back headrest
Jazz Vx CVT Same reason for Headrest and is it ok to go for Jazz and skip Nexon? Can we fit the back headrest aftermarket? I think Nexon will be more stable on highways, your thoughts?
Questions:

Kindly suggest the overall package to go with?
Since i have taken the text ride of nexon, i am getting a call from the dealer to Pay ₹5000 as booking amount (which would be 100% refundable if i change my plan, they will give it in writing) they said it has 10-12 weeks of waiting period. I will be booking tomorrow on Dussehra - Let me know if that is ok, or should I consult/negotiate anything else tomorrow while paying the booking amount? Or it should be done once my car will be dispatched from the Pune plan (they said it will take 5-7 days to reach) till then I can consider a Bank loan offer and they can also try to match the deal that I will get.Kindly also confirm for car loan should i directly walk in any nationalised bank and check with them the offers?
As this would be my first time buying a car experience, kindly also suggest if I can have a quick chat on call with Gagan and he can suggest what all other things i should take care of?
Apologies if I am asking too many obvious/silly questions but for me it's a whole new experience and I may need your hand holding step by step in order to buy my first new car.

Looking forward to your kind cooperation and support!

Best regards,

Dear Khurana ji.

Greetings !!

As i understand you have inclination towards Tata Nexon but slight apprehensive on the car front
Here are inputs :-

1. Warranty is not an issue. Although standard warranty is of 2 years but can extend to 5 yr which would cost in near around Rs 19K to 20K -

2. Second, some wear and tear parts are not covered like Brake, Clutch, Suspension components. If can avail long term plan for 4 yr / 60K Kms - it will make you near fully covered for any wear & tear part failing. (Recommended to opt only if annual running more than 10K Kms a year as chances of wear & tear item failure is higher in cars with higher mileage odo or in 4th year). This may cost in another Rs 12k

Opting for 5 Year warranty and 4 year P2p Package yes on face of it looks like steep Rs 30K amount - but be assured this is like a great way to enhance peace of mind ownership

3. With respect to rattles - well somehow fit and finish of Tata Cars is not the best. Although they are improving a lot but yes somehow still a lot of scope of improvement. I will not say or comment that rattles wont be there in new age cars, but can definite say that rattles would be much controlled as against yester year cars.

Nexon AMT
1. Very Impressive Build - needless to explain this aspect
2. Comes with ESP and traction control to provide stability
3. 120 PS Power comes a lot in play with fun experience in Sports Mode and city mode too is liveable
4. Handling dynamics are satisfactory. Although body roll is there but not something a deal breaker
5. A Car as combination of Build, Safety, Performance and offered at quiet a competitive pricing

However,
1. Insulation levels not the best, can definite experience in noise entering in cabin
2. AMT is no alternate to Automatic. I mean yes no clutch pedal is there but cant match in refinement of conventional Automatic. Some amount of jerk/pause effect of AMT will still be there
3. Not the benchmark in After sales experience. But as you owned GM Car - i dont foresee an issue
4. Ingress and Egress not the best for someone with tall height or someone with short height or someone with orthopaedic issue.
5. Mileage can go for a toss if driver experience this car in sports mode. Eco Mode - although fuel efficient but recommended only when cruising on expressway at relaxed 80 to 90 speed.

HighWay Stability
Well - its Jazz rather which can you find more stable due to lower ground clearance and relative firm suspension
But biggest downside of Jazz is tyre which do not offer much grip on 100+ speed

On other hand - Nexon although has wider tyres, Suspension yes is slight stiffened up but raised ground clearance increases body roll to extent

Waiting Period
10 to 12 weeks is on longer side
Tata Motors now introducing Punch - which will further extend waiting period as OEM capacity utilisation is near 100%.
Punch going to be a mass market car and somehow Nexon if not in dealer stock may take a longer time
If you are flexible on car color - do let dealer know on same pre hand to prioritize delivery if any cancellation happens

Also, Kind note that price prevailing on day of delivery would be what applicable price.
Another round of price hike may just happen in November citing INR depreciated to its peak level of 2021 and highest ever steel, rubber prices.

Bank Loan
As you are in capital Delhi. Banking systems are pretty quick
If having good CIBIL with self owned residence and income documents - expect no more than 2 days for loan to be sanctioned and at max 3 working days for loan disbursement when post sanction documents are submitted.

Do note that if loan sanctioned in and customer do not take delivery in 30 days then a fresh credit assessment would be redone.

So - Suggest to apply for loan when get a confirmation from dealer that car is dispatched from plant or if theres cancellation from other customer and you ready to take delivery

Nationalised Bank
Suggest to check loan rates and you do not even need to visit Bank branch
Pls refer - Car Loan Rates
can apply online for your loan

Hope should help !!

Thank you for insight. Appreciate your quick response.
Further to my below question, could you also suggest if I should consider vitara Breeza? That to automatic (I know it’s 4 speed only).
Personal note: somehow I hesitate to spend over 10 lacs on Tata or Maruti cars.
Let me know if Tata Amt is not advisable at all? If I plan to keep my car around 4 years with annual run around 12,000 km (city highway mix)
If so, then I’m happy to reconsider my option for maybe Nexon XZ+ (MT) or maybe breeza zxi+ (I know new gen coming next year first Q) or WRV vx? but can’t hold that long, I need to at least book the car within a month.
I’m 29, I know I said already looking for crossover but just exploring since we are precisely 3 adults so do you suggest is it worth go for polo torque converter by any chance? I know it’s small and it’s 10+ years in the market and about to come new gen again next year.
Do you still suggest it is advisable to look for polo now in the end of 2021?
PS: I’m a part of few groups where I’m surprised to say Infact people are reprint rattling issues with venue and even Kushaq too so it looks every car company trying to comprise fit and finish.
Best regards

Hi,

Pls find inputs

Brezza

Although Maruti Vitara Brezza is a great choice from drive, suspension, comfort, reliability and 4 speed torque converter (although on papers is outdated, but in real world is very well tuned for someone having maximum in city usage. You wont find any complaints if driving in relaxed way and yes is fuel efficient too)

Brezza downside related to
> Interior which feels like yester year old car
> Plastic Quality
> Cabin Feel
> Rear Upright Seats

Spending close to 11 Lakh On road do not deliver any premium feel in Brezza and thats what the reservation about this car
Yes - next generation is due in 2022 and car will be replaced with new model and likely a new 6 speed torque converter gearbox also in working which may be introduced in this car too.

Polo
Very Cramped on rear seat.
Rather if want to make an alternate choice - Rapid Rider Plus AUtomatic is a better pick
Do note that production is almost ended and dealers are clearing old stock. If any dealer has Rapid AT in stock may get same
This car to be replaced with its next gen model - Skoda Slavia in early 2022

Been the car is in Indian Market for 10 yrs - expect top notch reliability in terms of fact that car available is almost niggle free

Nexon AMT
As referred earlier - if somehow noise, insulation levels is not a deal breaker - Nexon AMT is worth a consideration and been purchase horizon is for 4 yrs

WRV
Although a great car but somehow stiff gear shift, lack of Automatic, almost non existent rear headrest (as they are too small) - it seems Honda decided to not to upgrade car basis consumer demand but what they feel about it.

Brezza Manual
You will find Brezza ease in driving irrespective of Manual and AMT
If Manual - opt for Brezza Zxi and append in rear view camera as accessory or consider in Toyota Urban Cruiser High which in brown theme seat fabric to view feels relative better against Brezza

But are you okay with those interiors and plastic quality. If thats not a concern area 0 may consider going ahead with MT

Hope shoukd help !!

Thank you and noted.

After hearing and comparing all aspects i think I can go with nexon AMT.

Please suggest nexon petrol xza+ is ok?

Because in xza+(S) has extra only sun roof and cruise control (I think?) which is not deal breaker for me.

Let me know what would be the best option for me?

Further would request you to please assist me in getting some good deal with some additional benefits if possible?

Best regards

Hi,

Yes other than Sunroof, Cruise also gets in
> Tyre Pressure Monitoring System,
> Xpress Cool
> Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel, Leather Wrapped Gear Knob
> Automatic Headlight on in Low Visibility, Auto Rain Sensing Wiper

It enhance convenience and styling experience and price difference is just 70K on On road
If you dont care for Sunroof and will rather less drive on expressway may opt XZA Plus AMT or else XZA Plus Sunroof is good to go and will enhance the feel experience of car

May check Feature Difference in Tata Nexon XZA Plus Features

Hope should help !!

Understood! No worries, however I have visited the dealer and got below deal.

I would kindly request Mr. Gagan Modi to review the deal and suggest his expert opinion is it is ok to proceed?

Tata nexon - XZA+(S) Petrol

Ex showroom: 11,29,400

Insurance: 34,600 (RIT, consumables, Engine Protection, Zero Dep)

I have asked about the insurance company that said it keep on changing every month ( generally they have icici, Hdfc, magnum, national, oriental)
- I hope insurance company shouldn’t be issues?

Registration: 1,20,103 (includes fastest, Hrsp number plate)
TCS: 11,294

On road we have agreed on ₹12,80,000 (includes matts, mud flaps, perfume, temple, body cover, number plate frame, door visor)

I have also pitched for BH series registration as my office has more than 4 branches in India, they said they haven’t done so far but they will see at the time of car dispatched.
Let me know what should I taken care of?

Regarding bank loan dealer has confirmed most likely SBI/BOB are giving very competitive deals around 7.35% approx with no proceeding fees, after one month BOB allows to pay advance emi and foreclosure.

Kindly suggest what other accessories I can request them to give which would be useful for daily life?

I have seen recent video of Mr. Gagan Modi where he has mentioned, he did request for Michelin Tyres: let me know the best tyre for nexon I can request for?

Further please also confirm if nexon has helogen yellow light sufficient throw while driving night on highway or I should get white osaram or Philips led? For low and high beam?

Fog lamps need to be yellow to cut fog right?

Hi Khurana Sahab,

1. 12.8 Lakh is a decent deal and yes you negotiated well including accessories as referred. Can go ahead with same

2. I wont recommend floating rate if intent to take long term finance. Reason - commodity prices are at its high and inflation surging ahead. We may soon witness in interest rates to firm up and this will increase rates in near future . Choose fixed rate option as offered by Private Banks or SBI

3. Tata do not offer Michelin Tyres as stock tyres. If you seek Michelin have to replace in after-market

4. Replace Headlight with Osram Night Breaker or Philips Xtreme Vision Plus bulb - they are halogen bulb only but with improved design and will improved headlight brightness by 40% to 50%

Hope should help !!
