Hi Team,

We are a car-buyer looking to buy a car under 9 lakhs. Basically we want a good Global NCAP rated car like Tata Altroz, Tata Tiago with company-fitted CNG. Please guide us on that.

Any possibility of these cars coming in CNG in coming months. Buying time is most probably around October this year. Even if we go with the above options, can we get CNG fitted from outside and still get that on paper?

Not strictly bound to Tata, we are open for other options also. Please guide us.

Thanks & Regards,
Jatin Shobhit Chauhan

Dear Jatin.

Greetings !!

I appreciate your requirement related to Safe Car with Good Build and yet with low running cost

Despite of huge potential in this segment. Somehow options are limited in Factory Fitted CNG Kit as of now.with just Maruti and Hyundai dominating segment with
> Alto, Wagon R, Celerio, S Presso, Santro, Nios in hatchback segment
> Aura in Sedan Segment
> Ertiga in MPV Segment

and unfortunately leaving aside Ertiga - rest of the cars are either 0 star or 2 star rated one
Even Ertiga scored 3 star and structure marked unstable in crash tesh

However, good news is that Tata Motors working on Factory Fitted CNG Cars and can expect in Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG may just turn out to be a reality in coming months. Also Maruti Suzuki too working on Vitara Brezza also to be introduced in CNG Version

So here is answer to your query
As of now there is no good 4 star rated cars with Factory Fitted CNG Kit in Indian Market
But yes Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG and even Maruti Vitara Brezza CNG may just be introduced in next 3 to 6 months as expected (this is indicative time line)

Somehow buying Petrol Car as of now and endorsing with CNG wont be possible especially in New car
Reason - RTO are not endorsing CNG in BS6 Cars, Although yes - CNG Kit are readily been endorsed in Used Cars which are BS4 Complaint. But somehow approval yet not granted by RTO, if CNG Kit are retro fitted citing safety concern in BS6 Cars.

Suggestion - keep an eye towards Maruti Brezza CNG and Tata Tigor CNG in coming months
Brezza CNG would be first one to be launched and followed by Tata Motors Cars then

Hope should help !!

Thank you for the detailed response!

I see that it's difficult to have a CNG Tata car by this October (our tentative buying time pertaining to some occasion). And as you said, it's not wise to go with retro fitted CNG kits. If we look further for CNG option, I see that Honda Amaze could also be an option and it got good Global NCAP ratings also. What's your opinion on this ?

And putting CNG aside for some time, which one would you advise between Tata Altroz (XT petrol) and Honda Amaze (VX petrol). Please guide.

Hi,

If theres no question of CNG - well there are considerable differences in between Amaze and Altroz

Altroz
> Known for Immaculate steering feedback
> High Speed Handling Dynamics
> Suspension dynamics are fair matured (not soft, but not excessive stiff) = can take on most Indian roads with a grip
> 5 Star Build Quality and proven

Amaze
> Engine NVH Levels, cabin feels better insulated
> Although pickup not great in Amaze but still feel better than Altroz
> Slight more spacious in cabin with bigger boot space
> Soft suspension and light steering
> Scheduled service cost would be marginally lesser

Also at later point of time if you plan to install in CNG (provided BS6 Cars gets approval) then to view basis fact of
> Power Figures
> Torque curve
Honda Amaze would be a better pick over Altroz
