Am using Suzuki A-star for past 10 years. Now i want to upgrade to a new car. My budget is 12 Lakhs.

My requirements are
1. Car should be automatic. As my wife want to learn driving she prefer to so in automatic.

2. Car with good stable structure and safe.

3. My usage will be 60% city and 40% Highway.

4. 60 % of time 3 person will be travelling(me, wife and my 1 year child), 40 % time my parents will be travelling with me so 5 members.

5. Ingress/Egress will not be problem as all are fit.

My monthly running KM will be 1000 to 1500 max. So am considering petrol engine.Am not a drive enthusiast. I like to drive in average speed and don’t do speed over take and all. am even satisfied with Astar performance.

Could you please suggest a car model and variant for above of my purpose. i shortlisted cars tiago XZA+, NEXON XMA.

With tiago am thinking like "will it be not a much upgrade in the sense of space from my existing Astar".
What are your suggestion

Thank You
Vishnu Chandra

Dear Vishnu ji,

Greetings !!

True - Tiago would be like a switchover and wont essentially be an upgrade over AStar
With Budget your side - better to consider other cars

With respect to Tata Nexon - yes
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/easyblog_articles/733/b2ap3_large_Tata-Nexon-Facelift.jpg
> AMT response is quiet satisfactory (this AMT unit was quiet jerky in 2018 end and in last 30 months - Tata Motors did phenomenal job of improving actuator gear shift change response)

> Multi Mode - where can choose in Eco Mode while cruising on highway. City Mode response too much improvised now in series of internal updates to car done by Tata Motors and Sports mode whenever feel the best of beast performance with a revv friendly output.

> Immaculate Build Quality, Steering dynamics are impressive

> Good In Seating Cabin Space, Boot Space is satisfactory at 350 Litres

> ESP as important safety element for highway

> Your location details are not referred, if budget allows Nexon XZA feels more upmarket in interiors with superior lifestyle features as what required in modern ahe car (Karnataka has highest road tax zone and this car will cost there Rs 13 Lakh On road, as against Delhi where car will cost in Rs 12 Lakh)

However, some misses
> Ingress and Egress not the best due to floating design layout and raised cabin.
Although yes you specified that by God Grace everyone is fit and fine.
But, still need to check with your parents if they are comfortable as to our view someone whos short in height or elderly having orthopaedic may not find ingress and egress the best.

> Somehow Engine Noise levels still remain to be on higher note, can find wind noise and engine noise entering in cabin on higher speed

> Visibility is not the best in Nexon. Somehow on corners the A Pillar can obstruct view to an extent and rear windshield glass feels smaller.

> Although XZA is loaded with features and infotainment sound clarity is decent, but touchscreen response is average

> Tata After Sales still not the benchmark in the segment

Alternate Choice / Recommendation
Toyota Urban Cruiser Mid Automatic or Maruti Vitara Brezza Vxi Automatic. Now coming to this car
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/easyblog_articles/1079/b2ap3_thumbnail_Vitara-Brezza-Petrol.jpg

> Can find drive to be more comfort oriented against Nexon

> Although yes Urban Cruiser / Brezza comes with 4 Speed Automatic (which on papers looks like obsolete transmission) - but in real world drive conditions will actually find Brezza / UC Automatic shine like a star for someone who likes relaxed drive. No Jerk, No Pause effect - can find drive to be very comfortable and relaxed. Remember - Torque Convereter (i.e Automatic) anyday feels superior over AMT

> This is a larger size naturally aspirated petrol engine, can find car to pickup cleanly from low rpm wiithout any lag whatso ever.

> Ingress ane Egress to our view is better in Brezza (although yes rear seats are placed slight upright)

> Top Notch reliability, after sales service experience is the key. With cross badged product - you will find even more personalised attention at Toyota Workshop

Some Misses

> Yeah - despite of paying 2x against A Star -you will find interiors, plastic quality like yesteryear type (and thats why Maruti is working on Next Gen Brezza with host of updates and due for launch in 6 months or so)

> Rear seats are placed in slight upright way (but wont be an issue on short distance in city drive)

> Steering dynamics are mediocre (see on stand alone basis no issues till 100 Kmph speed as no vibrations, but the way we experienced in different cars like Nexon, Ecosport, Sonet, venue - feel there steering dynamics are lot better). Its like that misses that feel for that confidence on 100+ speed on this steering as do not gain weight as what expected

In terms of Fuel efficiency too - will find Brezza/UC to be marginally better

Overall to recommendation: Toyota Urban Cruiser Automatic / Brezza Automatic feels a better pick
> Is Proper Automatic as against AMT
> Comfort Oriented Ride
> Superior After Sales Service Network
> Better Visibility
and if budget permits opt for Brezza Zxi AT. With superior lifestyle features (can add camera as MGA Genuine accessory) but be assured will cherish in experience in improvised piano black finish, touchscreen and overall appeal with alloy wheels too.

Details - Vitara Brezza Zxi Automatic

Hope should help !!

I had test drive on Brezza. My family members don't like the interiors. Interior fells similar to A-star even after spending 12L. What is your suggestion on 1.Ciaz 2. honda city or 3. XL6. I am ready to extend the budget by 2L(So my budget is 14L). will the length of the vehicle be a problem to drive inside the city? I live in kerala. Here most of the roads will be narrow and have lot of turnings.

Hi,

Yes as referred interiors are definite deal breaker for many buyers

Nop - length of vehicle although on number terms looks like 500 mm longer - but is mere 1.6 feet longer
Honda City V CVT: On Road will cost in 14.75 Lakh in Kerala, this is a no - nonsense car with
> Plush interiors, feels definite upmarket with a notch ahead
> Loaded with Good safety kit experience
> Very spacious - your parents will love in seating comfort
> Exteriors though due to that silver alloys, front griille may look slight bland - but is something which is not
> Engine NVH Levels are top notch and can quiet well experience in refinement standards
> Comes with option of Eco Mode - which i feel is dull - may best be avoided if you seek best from Honda city
> 5th Gen City comes with annual service interval - so service cost are relative competitive and yes Honda offers 3 yr standard warranty - extendable to 5 yr / 1 Lakh Kms for just rs 9000 approx
> Comes with Paddle Shifter too

Dont be concerned on size - its all about to get on feel of car by driving few times - very comfortable with comfort oriented suspension and quiet easy to drive and experience in

Infact, i also recommend to test drive Honda Jazz CVT
> Despite of 1.2 Litre engine - this car in CVT is pretty impressive for those who like relaxed drive. No Jerks just smooth pickup
> One of the most stable car for highway drive perspective, one among most spacious (although yes misses on with very small integrated headrest - ideal for those whose height is 5'5" or below)
> Interior feels upmarket, Touchscreen has android auto
> Multi Mode Camera
> Light Steering, very good visibility

With dealer end discounts and offers - car on road will touch in around rs 10.5 Lakh in Kerala
Would be worth a check
Adding on Jazz service interval too revamped to 1 year / 10K Kms(earlier was bi-annual) ensuring service cost remain in control

Would be worth a check

Hi Vishnu ji,

Even I am in similar situation trying to decide between Brezza / Venue / Kia Sonnet Automatic.
Did you finalize your pick...? and are u happy with it...?

The interiors of Kia seem superior, but Venue has good Hyundai value.
Brezza has really poor interiors which are a bit off turn off, but has good market value.
