Budget: Between 15 to 20 lakhs on road

Preference: Auto

Diesel vs Petrol: My major running (80% is city) I feel petrol will be a better choice but I dont want an underpowered engine for uphill drives as I have faced earlier. Pla suggest should I go for petrol/diesel

Usage: Delhi City 80% - 20% Hill drives

Small Family: 4-5 people max

Average Monthly Usage: 1200 kms maximum

Driving Behaviour: Im a balanced driver mostly drive properly in relaxed manner but once in a while I do tend to touch high speed or sharp cuts. (When the Young blood in me charges up). Like I said I have taken i20 diesel (2014) and SCross diesel to hills and it felt underpowered to me with full capacity and load.

Primary Features: Good exterior lights and interior feel. Good Boot space. Ground Clearance. Cruise control. ORVM adjusting, Good Rear view camera, Hill Hold ESC etc safety features.

Smartphone connectivity features is an added benefit. Sunroof for my GF :|

Additional Pointers to note:

I shortlisted Creta, Seltos, Honda City, Kushaq Harrier. I might look out for XUv700 post launch but its a massive vehicle.

Models I considered:
Seltos HTX IVT: I test drove it twice and felt the comfort to be there to drive. But when i wanted instant power or speed it was lacking. I like all the features in the car but my mother and GF felt a lot of bumps due to its stiff suspension.

Surprisingly while coming back the guy offered me a drive of manual petrol of the same variant. I was shocked to see the difference in power and it felt great to drive. Sudden power, downshift to race ahead all was making me happy. Clutch was light as well.

This made me confused about my choice of IVT and I am in a dilemma that should I choose comfort or performance since I do have to travel from delhi to gurgaon and trips will increase post corona phase. Also, whether IVT has enough power to go uphill with fully loaded car?

**Creta IVT**: After test drive we just might choose & Reasons to consider:

In my opinion this drives a bit better
Better suspension setup than Seltos
Sport Mode & Eco Mode for different driving style
Rear passengers were happier this time as compared to seltos experience
Panaromic Sunroof
Auto Hold

Things I dont like: Aesthetically Interior is not as rich and feels like im driving an i20. Exterior looks are only acceptable and not wow like seltos.

Harrier XMA : OMG this car is a beast but my mother wouldnt let me go for this because:
a) Diesel 10 year ban
b) Niggles being reported and overall test drive showed us that there software and tech part is very slow in comparison to hyundai/kia.
c) Long term reliability due to electronic/mechanical components. Basically cheap QC is the problem with Tata.

Good things: I LOVE THE DRIVE & Road Presence.

Honda City VX CVT: Its just too noisy and I need ground clearance.

Kushaq 1.0 Automatic: My family doesnt want to invest a single penny skoda/ VW cars because maintaining them and the parts everything is super expensive.

Dear Shrey,

Greetings !!

Somehow as i understand
> You seek a car which is ease to drive and yet has a Performance tune up
> Would prefer a Petrol car, been diesel has 10 year of shelve life in Delhi, NCR Zone
> Seek Suspension which is not excessive stiff
> Reliable and peace of mind ownership
> Lifestyle Features

Basis, all - see the best recommended model to view would be Hyundai Creta Sx Option DCT Automatic with strong reasons in favor
> Suspension tuned towards soft note - will find comfort oriented ride
> Somehow rear seat under-thigh support and neck support feels better in Creta and will find passengers to be at more luxe feel
> Panoramic sunroof yes adds to charm which feels exciting for members who seek lifestyle experience.Add on to it would be top notch infotainment
> A Car which is ideal when you seek convenience and at same time DCT makes it real quick in lightning gear shift change with a feel of power delivery present at all times
> Hyundai Offering Wonder warranty scheme where can get complimentray 4 yr / 60,000 Kms or 5 yr / 50,000 Kms on Creta. Adding on scheduled service cost are fairly competitive. Pls check on Creta Service Cost . Just follow in recommended service schedule without any extra add ons - you will be good
> Light Steering, Easy controls and Turbo GDI which is there to bring in excitement on drive as and when you seek
> Fully Loaded Model will cost in Rs 20.5 Lakh on road and will offer in 6 Airbags, All 4 disc Brakes, ESP, Highline TPMS to ensure that you never have to look for safety

Although yes to disclaim -
> Creta is not crash tested but considering fully loaded active and passive safety and controlled speed drive will ensure safety.
> Soft suspension has a kind of body roll, but its felt when one do cornering at speed. Just try to control on taking turns

Not to miss on
> Best in resale
> Lifestyle Features
> Despite of 20 Lakh odd car - service cost are fair competitive
> Superior Comfort in cabin Seating Space
> Performance as a buyer look for in Turbo GDI Petrol
> Convenient and Superior Ownership Experience

I suggest to have a test drive and experience in. Basis requirement preference - this can just be the best trade off looking for.

Hope should help !!

Thank you so much. For all the reasons mentioned above my family and I have decided to go for Creta petrol automatic. But we were considering CVT over DCT for certain reasons:

1. Mileage will be better on CVT
2. Long term reliability of the gearbox
3. Price savings
4. When I drove it I couldn't really make out the power due to most of it in city conditions as I had to break often after 60 kmph. In my honest opinion the CVT offered a better punch initially and I stretched the car to
80 kmph easily and didn't feel lack of power. So I decided 1.4 turbo is just an overkill for me.

The only concern I have is will Creta 1.5 CVT easily climb hills? I feel auto hold is really going to help in stop and go uphill climb but can it feel out of breath?

I took my BRV manual once to Landour and it hasa steep hill. The creta infront of us struggled so much to climb (driver's fault too) that it scared me. 4 people got out of our car and BRV easily climbed the steep hills without damaging clutch. That was a manual and it performed great.

Will this engine be powerful enough for hills?

Hi Shrey Sahab,

As i understand you seek a car from performance aspect too :-

Well CVT in 1.5 Litre Petrol engine is best for relaxed drive, but whenever go with slight higher throttle with immediate pickup - will wonder in to search for power. Although yes paddle shifters are there but nothing can beat in DCT

CVT as engine-transmission is best for relaxed drive, but DCT is all rounder with a strong punch in performance as and when needed on the go

Having said same - have no apprehensions for CVT on hill drive, although wont experience in strong pull surge but in no way car is under-powered and can very well climb in hills. If required on steep one - may even engage in Manual Mode and use paddle shifters to do same.

Driver skills matters the most in hill drive, i presume the incident which you saw of that Creta could be related to poor skills of driver as such no issue in Creta CVT.

Hope should help !!
