Hi Gagan sir,

I want your help to buy a new car for our Family as I am a new driver and my budget is around 8 to 9 Lakhs, in my family there will be 3 adults and one child.

I am wanted to buy this car in Bangalore

I will do 3.5 lakhs as down payment and remining I will go for loan, I am looking for Premium Hatchback and Compact SUV cars in this price range, I know some of the car in this range I will get only basics model, but I am ok with that.

I will be traveling more then twice a month to my hometown which is in Andhra Pradesh with all four of us and distance covered around 350 km per side.

My requirement
1. In rear seats leg space should be free as Mom is having the Knee pain and she can’t seat more time with congest space
2. Good build quality. Mileage.
3. Peace of mind ownership.
4. Avg maintenance cost.
5. I want to have relaxed driving.
6. Reliable for next 10 years. Decent features like Auto AC, Rear defogger, Steering mounted controls.
7, Good lighting on night driving

I am even ok for CNG has now Petrol rate is very high and in couple of years it will be more as will.
Please suggest me which car I need to buy for my family, you can suggest both CNG and Petrol cars with my budget.

Hi Gajendra ji,

Greetings !!

Appreciate in detailed specifics as shared with respect to your new car.

Before i start recommending you model - its important to set budget criteria set, been Karanatak has one among highest road tax across cities, setting a budget of 9 Lakh means a car where in exshowroom is close to 7.5 Lakh will fit in your price range, been substantial road tax & rto fees of 1.25 Lakh applicable on a car worth 7.5 Lakh and additional would be insurance and some accessories, plus warranty too if you go ahead

Now taking baseline as cars in range of 7 Lakh to 7.5 Lakh and basis your requirement preference wiith
Rear Seat Legroom: as important criteria, See
> Sonet & Venue is relative compact in rear seat legroom
> Brezza yes marginal better rear seat legroom
> Nexon has good legroom

But issue with Nexon:- Somehow people with short height or having orthopaedic issue may find difficulty in ingress and egress
been doors are placed at slight height from ground

Brezza is good, but rear seat are placed in slight upright position.

Having said smae - i believe a cars like Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, Maruti Baleno & Hyundai I20 which offers very spacious cabin in rear seat can be pick
Having said same - I20 although offers excellent legroom in new generation, but biggest issue to it is
> Low Placed seats which may not be to liking of your mother

To view Honda Jazz ticks the box with very impressive legroom space
Wide Window Glasses, Lot better headroom - she would be at ease in rear seat of Jazz - provided her height is 5'5" or less
Why not for taller passengers - issue is small fixed headrest - for someone whos tall may not find it at best

Refer Legroom space and good posture angle
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/easyblog_articles/790/b2ap3_thumbnail_Jazz-legroom.jpg

However headrest are small
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/easyblog_articles/790/b2ap3_thumbnail_Jazz-headrest-rear.jpg

Having said same
> Ingress and Egress for your mother would be relative ease with doors wide open and seats not placed as low as in I20
Overall She will be quiet comfortable on rear seat of car

Why not Baleno ? Although Baleno too has impressive rear seat space, but
> Car feels claustrophobic due to black interiors
> Jazz to view feels more sturdy as against Baleno

2. Good build quality. Mileage.
See Jazz and Altroz both comes with decent build. Altroz infact is proven with 5 star rating
Expect in 12 to 13 Kmpl fuel efficiency as reasonable expectation in day to day city drive condition

Maintenance Cost
Here good news is that Honda Cars India revamped service schedule to once a year / 10,000 Kms (earlier in BS4 one was 6 month / 10,000 Kms) and trust this has reduced in car service cost to a significant extent. Can opt for Honda Prepaid AMC plan which offers 3 yr / 30,000 Kms scheduled service for just Rs 13,000 and Honda offering 3 yrs warranty as standard which can extend to 5 yr / 1 Lakh Kms by paying Rs 9000 ensuring peace of mind ownership

Good news is that Honda feels economical as against Tata in after sales department now

Relaxed Driving & Features
Be assured Honda Jazz V is what meant for relaxed drive and yes will be happy with car features too, Can get in
> Automatic Climate Control
> Defogger
> Infotainment with Steering Mount Control
> Electric ORVM'
> Rear Wash Wiper
> Alloy Wheels too
along with standard safety pack of ABS, Dual Airbags with Reverse Park sensor

Lighting
Well present day cars having stock bulbs as halogen bulbs. You can upgrade them with
> Osram Night breaker unlimited one for slight better visibility over stock bulbs . cost rs 1500 approx

Overall: Basis needs as specified - Honda Jazz V can be a great pick for need as specified. Do negotiate for dealer end discounts to bring price close in your desired budget range.

Hope should help !!

Hi Gagan sir,

Thanks for your valuable feedback, I have taken the test drive of Honda Jazz and i20, as you specified Honda Jazz is has having more space in Rare cabin which is fulling my requirement but in i20 Magma in rare cabin I am getting AC vents but not in the Honda Jazz.

For CNG I have even test drive i10 model it was good experience, I have also test drive with Nissan Magnate Non turbo and which I feel it was good then Jazz.

Please clarify can I buy CNG cars are Petrol cars and why not Nissan Magnate where I will be getting more comfort.

Also Suggest which CNG car is best in terms of Safety and with low maintenance cost, What will happen if we install CNG after purchasing the Petrol from showroom, it will worth for us or not.

I had hear that for i20 and Brazza is coming with factory fit CNG whether I need to wait for that?.

Hi,

Reason why

1. Nios CNG or Aura CNG not recommended as Grand i10 Nios scored 2 star in Global NCAP Rating
Been one of the criteria was of safety and build - hence this car was not recommended

2. Nissan Magnite: Waiting list is considerably long, 4 to 6 month wait along with steering which feels toyish - just cant feel like recommending this car

3. Installing CNG in Petrol Car in not possible : As of now as per rules, RTO not endoring CNG in BS6 Cars if same is retro fitted
Only Factory Fit CNG cars are what allowed for registration.
If you seek CNG and yet in a car with superior build - may wait for Tiago CNG / Tigor CNG due for launch in next 3 months. Also, Amaze CNG may just be introduced in coming 4 to 6 months (indicative time lines - although more details will be known at time of facelift launch)

Brezza CNG and I20 CNG - time lines are in 2022

Hope should help !!
