Hi Gagan ji,

I want to purchase a new vehicle for my wife, kindly guide me.

Present situation
I have two vehicle

1. Alto 800 CNG 2012 model, 1,40,000 km driven, want to replace it , this car is used by my wife (Govt employee) with running around
1800 km/ month within city ( around 60-70 km/day) we are using CNG vehicle constantly since 2012, there is no issue and we can handle CNG vehicles more comfortably as there are many filling station in our city, Lucknow.

2. Tata Tiago 2020 BS6 model for myself (self employed).

I want to purchase a car on basis of:

a) Can hold it for long term say for 8-10 yrs,
b) having strong build quality,
c) 4 or 5 star rating, and
d) Nice ride and handling along with back seat comfort
e) With lumber support as myself have lower back problem
f) Mileage not much issue as already select CNG/ EV
g) Under 14 lakhs.

I have two options:

1. Tata Tigor CNG and
2. Nexon EV.

About Nexon EV I have some doubts/ fears in my mind:

1. Wife is going to carry Nexon EV, if there are some issue in car, especially its breakdown, as seen in many you tube videos, then how she could manage when on duty, or in mid of journey.
2. My driver not much experienced, and I don’t know how he could manage automatic transmission of EV.
3. Also I have 2 year old baby while I used to drive, my wife sits on passenger seat with him, during driving he used to touch and try to pull and rotate each and every switch/ buttons, so I don't know what could happen to transmission if he do the same thing with transmission knob. As I saw your video on automatic transmission, how costly it could be if mishandled.
4. Apart from above fears, there is one benefit if we go for EV then my wife can also drive the car in any emergency situation.

On the other hand we are using CNG vehicle for last 9 years so we have no problem with it, so we can easily manage CNG vehicle there are a plenty of CNG filling station in our city but I want to go for better technology and to save our environment and my money in long term basis.

So kindly give me your best possible opinion whether we go for CNG or EV.

If your answer is CNG then which car (Tigor or Dezire,), Aura i don't prefer, or
if your answer is EV then of course is it Nexon Ev or any other, like Altroz EV or XUV 300 EV. I can wait for these till 2022.

Thank you .
Regards
Shyam kumar.

Hello Shyam ji,

Greetings !!

Starting with CNG Car
See CNG Car would definite be economical as against EV.

With present options in CNG which are limited to
> Ertiga CNG
> Hyundai Nios & Aura CNG
> Other 1 Litre & 800cc Cars

there is no other car which is what available with factory fitted CNG
yes, is strong possibility of upcoming
> Tiago & Tigor CNG
> Swift & Dzire CNG

coming in 2021,

Having said same - Swift scored 2 Star safety rating, expect similar one for Dzire. Nios and Aura too are 2 star rated one, no point in considering 1 Litre engine one - so these cars are out of context

Ertiga CNG - yes is 3 star but doesnt make sense for a full size MPV to be used for solo usage.

If you already have Tiago BS6 Petrol - the only viable option would be to wait for Tigor CNG albeit if OEM introduce in higher up variants.
However - this car still has good 3 months for launch and would be too early to comment on CNG Performance factor in Tigor
But yes if you seek a 4 Star Safety Rated Car then this car makes sense

Having said same
> Theres considerable difference in seating comfort of Nexon and Tigor with Nexon has better lumbar support
> Even from Safety aspect with 5 star safety rated with even superior build
> When EV Comes in Picture - you get a full fledged Automatic Transmission

Coming to apprehensions on Kid fiddling with AT Transmission
Appreciate watching in video on Automatic Transmission
See - Children should never be seated on front seats and referring same not from fiddle aspect but stating it from safety perspective
refer -

If you want a safe driving experience, pls have kid seated on rear seat with CRS
Refer details on Child Restraint Seat

EV
See EV Technology is getting superior day on day. I am anticipating that Tata Altroz EV which is due for launch anytime in next 6 to 8 months
> Will come with improved range (with 15% to 20% better range)
> Will also come witn initial niggles been resolved as what Tata finds that some consumer finding there EV car to go to limp mode

If you seek the very best on your next new car for long term perpsective - Altroz EV would be worth a wait
Hope should help !!
