Hello Sir

I want a SAFER Car with a GOOD BUILD QUALITY , Highway Stability and RELIABILITY for highway driving for my family.

My driving is 5000 km per year . So looking for a petrol version.

The car needs to be spacious and comfortable.

The following are the car I have chosen

1) Hyundai i20 Asta ( Optional)

2) Hyundai Verna S+

3) Mahindra Xuv300 W4 variant

4) Honda City 4th generation

5) Honda Jazz ZX

Kindly rank them as per your recommendation

Volkswagen Vento / Skoda Rapid ( Can't keep it in my list due to my rural location and high Spare parts cost)

Hello Arunabh ji,

Greetings !!

Pls find inputs on selected cars

Hyundai I20 Asta Optional
Although an excellent car basis
> Fully Loaded Active and passive safety - 6 Airbags, ESP
> Very reliable brand
> Quiet Spacious - infact most spacious sub 4 meter car for family use
> Very competitive service cost - almost the lowest in premium Hatchback segment
> UpMarket with Lifestyle Features
> Firm Suspension and Wide Tyres ensure good grip on highway

However, concerns
> Steering dynamics which although improved in new I20 but still do not feel like inspiring on highway. Due to this handling character of car just feels average. Had Hyundai someway made this steering as what felt in German Cars - trust I20 could have become benchmark in the segment

> Engine Performance - i will say wont be a deal breaker. Its not to the lines of enthusiast performance with superior pickup but no issues for someone who will continue to drive

> THeres no NCAP rating available of all new I20.

To our View if you compare against Jazz Manual Transmission - at present I20 almost leads in all department whether you ask for
> Rear Seat Comfort with Headrest, Center seat armrest, Rear AC Vents
> Feels more agile against Jazz in Performance. Quicker
> Seats yes placed slight lower in I20 but not something can be called discomfort oriented
> Loaded without any compromise on active & passive safety - 6 Airbags, ESP, TPMS everything you seek from safety perspective
> Although Jazz known for top notch stability but Hyundai too with Wider 16 Inch Wheels with R16 195 Tyres ensures good grip in car
> Needless to mention Hyundai reliability and after sales service is second to none

So in between Jazz and I20 - its I20 Asta Option which should be your pick

2) Hyundai Verna S+
Well when you bring Verna against I20 then you are spot on to Verna
> Handling Character of Verna was a big weak point earlier, but this is now a strength (Cornering dynamics although yet to be improved). Car feels more stable with better suspension dynamics against I20 makes this car feel even more planted on road
> 1.5 Litre Engine although on papers looks more powerful but the fact with Hyundai shedded off weight in I20 - performance difference at lower speed is negligible, but when you move beyond 60 - can definite find Verna a superior product from engine performance

I will say if preference is
> Highway stability
> Grip Levels
> Handling character
> Possibly better build too

Verna leads, but you will miss on advanced lifestyle and safety features in car

Verna against City
Honda City 4th Gen in itself is good and an iconic product with unmatched space and quiet impressive Ivtec engine. But
> Grip levels on road with R15 175 tyres feels pretty average
> 6 Month Service interval will take up lot of money in after sales as against Verna or I20

If rear seat space is not a deal breaker - Verna S Plus would be a better pick over City 4th Gen

Mahindra XUV300 W4
Why W4 - thats bare basic model and lacks rear seat headrest
If you seek Mahindra XUV300 - check out W6 Model and yes you will love in
> Performance - find much better than any other car listed above
> 5 Star Build Quality
> Suspension tuned towards comfort
> Multi Mode steering - sport mode will ensure superior steering feedback

Only con with XUV300
> Cabin Insulation levels are not great. will find outside noise entering in cabin
> Mahindra after sales still not the benchmark
> Lacks advanced lifestyle features as what you will get in I20
> Boot Space is impractical compact

My Recommendation
If you seek pure from highway stability, Build :-
Mahindra XUV300 leads as best. You will love in Performance, Space, Pickup, Multi Mode Steering feedback, Stability, Safety Aspect
But with its own set of cons as Boot Space, Cabin Insulation. However, dont opt for W4 - check out W6 or W8 to get the very best of experience from car.

If you seek superior Boot Space with very good cabin insulation and yet a car with decent performance, handing - Verna S Plus

Should be your pick from the list
Hope should help !!

Hi,

Polo TSI any day (if rear seat space is not a deal breaker)

Just opt for
> Extended 2 yr warranty (taking total warranty to 6 yrs)
> 4 Yr AMC Prepaid Maintenance Pack

will cost in Rs 50K for extended warranty & AMC for peace of mind ownership
