Hi Gagan sir,

I watch your videos. All videos are very useful. Need your help to choose car 9 to 10 Lakhs.

Buying city : Bangalore.

Budget : 9 to 10.5 Lakhs max (including extend warrenty + accessories) .
3.5 lakhs from cash. Remaining loan.

Usage : Two month once travel to native and come back total 500 km. In native usage around 70 km. In city very less usage in weekends.Rest of days car will NOT be used

Currently using Maruti 800 for same purpose. Looking to buy new car as its crossed 15 years already and space is less for my growing family. (2 kids + 2 Adults).Sometimes parents may join us. As of now managing it with 800.

Preference :
Good build quality.
Peace of mind ownership.
Avg maintenance cost.
I want to have relaxed driving. Drive between 60 to 90 kmph speed most of the time.max 100 kmph.
Reliable for next 10 years. Decent features like Auto AC, Rear defogger, Steering mounted controls.
Good lighting on night driving as I am missing these in 800.

Need suggestion to choose segment and car with variant.

If I go with SUV then missing above mentioned features in mid variants in my budget. So confused in choosing between compact sedan or suv or hatchback.

As per my knowledge considering below cars and test driven in last April,
Aura, Jazz, Kiger, Magnite, Altroz.

In the above I like Jazz, Aura, Kiger.

Other cars considering
Amaze, Urban cruiser/Brezza.

Will be buying after end of August or September.

1)Need your help to choose car + variant considering above preferences?

2) Need suggestion which to choose from Automatic or Manual for my above usage.

Open to any other suggestions also.

Hearing Amaze facelift is coming in next month.

3) Which is right time to buy car? instead buying in September Can I wait for 2022 models?

4) How is future of Ev cars? Can I buy small car now and after 3 to 4 year can I go with electric car for my usage?

Attached payment screenshot.

Dear Visagan,

Greetings !!
As i understand you experienced Jazz, Aura, Kiger and liked among lot and considering making a choice in between MT and AT

Automatic or Manual
Basis limited usage where in drive restricted to weekend and highway - should go ahead with Manual TRansmission

Best Car
1. Aura : Wont recommended due to relative light steering and 2 Star Build Quality
2. Kiger : As you seek peace of mind ownership and long term reliability. Somehow Renault After sales service features in lowest and same proven by JD Power CSI Index where Renault featuring in bottom 2 for last 3 years

Now Jazz turns out to be lot better been spacious, reliable, much better grip levels as against other cars, sturdy build and now service schedule revamped to once a year from BS6 (earlier was bi-annual in BS4) with 3 yr standard warranty - extendable to 5 yr for just Rs 9000

Having said same, from other contention list cars as
1 Amaze : Well Jazz feels relative better against Amaze. Important to understand Amaze suspension is on softer note and steering feedback feels relative mediocore. With such suspension feels and light steering - you will always find lot to be desired on highway ride especially when car loaded

2. Urban cruiser/Brezza : Lot Better Pick in space, reliability. This 1.5 Litre engine has lot of grunt, good pickup. Proven 4 star rating
But what you wont like in as - Relative upright rear seats, even after an upgrade with plastic quality and interior aesthetics are pretty average, still yester year steering wheel.

Suggestion
Instead of Jazz even and Brezza too - basis your driving style and preferences - suggest to check out Honda WRV S Petrol
> Its a Jazz only but with retuned suspension and wider tyres. You really can feel the difference on drive with superior grip with wider R195 tyres and all across with superior handling

> Feels premium in Exteriors and INteriors. You will definite feel a 2 level upgrade over existing Maruti 800 as you been driving so far

> Lifestyle and all essentials - Automatic Climate Control with Touch Panel on AC Vents, Multi Mode Rear View Camera, 7 Inch AVN with Android AUto and Apple car play, Impressive Sound Clarity, DRL, Defogger, Speed Sensing door lock and all essential styling, convenience features

> This Car is what ideal when driven with light foot with relaxed drive and comes out to shine on same

> Well as you focussed on Night Visibility - kind note that all these cars are available with Halogen Headlights. Still - WRV has good in night visibility drive. But, If you seek an upgrade may choose Philips Xtreme Vision Plus / Osram Night breaker unlimited either as accessory or in spare. Its a Plug and play easy fitment and cost Rs 1500 only

Amaze Facelift: It would be enhancement in features and some styling upgrades
No change in Suspension, Steering dynamics will happen.

Important: Kind note that Car prices will keep on increasing. Honda Cars India set to increase car prices again in August 2021
The more you keep on delaying the higher will be the price
I referred same in December 2020 itself, refer this old video

Still if you cant make immediate purchase can make a consideration in around festive season

EV Car
EV still in nascent stage. Yes many new cars will be up there in next 4 yrs
But budget would be key criteria been EV battery makes up a substantial cost

Overall Recommendation
Honda WRV S Petrol.
Additional 2 yr extended warranty means 5 yr warranty cost in Rs 9000 and can opt for 3 yr Prepaid AMC Pack which cost in Rs 13000 approx.

Hope should help !!

Thanks Gagan Sir for detailed explanation.

Got clarity about Amaze suspension and steering feedback. Came to know about Renualt's after sales service.

Also your details about Brezza/UC interior and steering tells me why not Brezza. Is it worth to wait new version of Brezza till next year?

Right now I am in native due to wfh, moving to Bangalore by next month only. In my native Honda showroom is not there, I have to travel minimum 50 km for Honda showroom. If prices are going to increase I need to consider booking before that. Thanks for the info. I will try to explore the possibilities for WR-V test-drive this week.

I20 sports coming with features other than Auto AC. How about considering I20 for my purpose?
Or Ford aspire also comes with all features. Can I consider it?

Hi,

Brezza
Well - Brezza would most likely be getting a significant upgrade in
> Plastic Quality
> Styling
> Features List

however will come at a price, i mean price which you will get post discounts of Brezza top of line Zxi Plus as of now would quiet be closer to Brezza Zxi Model then in Facelift edition (with lesser features but better plastics, interiors)

Overall we expect - basis discounts, inflationary aspect, existing prices - Upgraded model will cost in 40K to 50K from existing prices

Honda
Somehow as a practice by most of the car manufacturers - booking price wont be applicable
Its the price prevailing on day of delivery would be what applicable price

Hyundai I20 Sportz
Excellent choice basis
> Reliability
> After sales service cost
> Features List
> Styling Factor

But if you ask from
> Suspension Dynamics at high speed
> High Speed Grip and STability

Will rate WRV and Brezza a notch better

Ford Aspire
Ford is best in Diesel Engines, if you seek Petrol one then instead of Aspire - check out Freestyle Titanium or Titanium Plus basis fact
> ESP as important safety element
> Suspension dynamics are relative better tuned

and you get a feel of crossover car at price of hatchback
Do note that there were certain media reports about Ford Exit from India and concerns on Ford diminishing sales
We cant really comment if Ford going to be out of India or will stay in India but even if in worst case scenario Ford leaves and if you buy car
> Dont be concerned about Ford after sales as service center will remain intact
> However, yes resale value would be impacted to a significant extent

Hope should help !!

Thanks for the inputs Gagan Sir.

As per your suggestions I understood,

- WRV is best fit for my requirement and then followed by Brezza/Urban cruiser and freestyle.

- If I can wait for Brezza launch with increased prize Breeza is also good.

Since Honda and ford showroom is not available in my native, I can test drive of WRV and freestyle next month only once I am in Bangalore.
So planning to take test drive of Brezza/Urban cruiser.

Between Urban cruiser and Brezza which is good for service perspective?
My cousin suggests TATA for safety. Is it worth to consider Nexon XM or Altroz XZ for long term and reliability ? Nexon XM misses out the features which I have mentioned.

I will take test drive and update here. Thanks for your wonderful support.

Thanks,

Hi Tata is an excellent choice and certainly after spending in 3 to 4 yrs with
> Continual Product enhancements
> Engine Performance especially in sports mode is lot fun and city mode is now much improved too
> 5 Star Build Quality with ESP as essential safety feature now featuring as standard

Nexon is a great choice as against Altroz as a product

But, for factors as specified by you
> Peace of mind ownership.
> Avg maintenance cost.

I really feel still work needs to be done in after-sales and niggle free ownership factor to deliver superior experience.
Somehow noise levels are higher on the go, insulation not the best

Hence recommended you alternate products.
Hope should help !!

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your help so far. As Honda showroom is not there in my native requested for test drive of WR-V from the showroom in 50 km. They may provide test drive this week.

Meanwhile test driven Brezza. I am fine with the ride comfort. It's spacious also. Yes as you have mentioned the interior is not looking good compared to other cars test driven in last April.

Also chance to test drive i10 nios Automatic in city roads. I feel it's very easy drive in automatic cars. Now my wife is also saying she can also learn driving if automatic cars. Now I am thinking I can go with i10 nios automatic for my above usage along with learning purpose for my wife and keep it for 5 years and later I can sell it and buy new car. Is it right decision?

Or any other automatic cars do you suggest within 10 lakhs price point?

Thanks

Thanks Gagan sir for your suggestions. I requested for wr-v test drive in honda showroom 50km away from my native. Will get this week.

I test driven Brezza. Its comfortable for drive and spacious. As you have mentioned interior is not much good compared to other cars I test driven on last April.

Meanwhile I got chance to test drive i10 nios automatic in city areas. I feel it's more easy to drive in automatic. Now my wife also says she can learn driving if it's auto transmission. So thinking to buy i10 nios auto transmission for my above usage and for learning driving for my wife. Use it for 5 years and sell it.
Is it good to buy i10 nios amt for my above usage and learning ?
Or any other amt cars do you suggest for this usage?

Thanks

Hi,

Although Grand i10 Nios AMT is a great choice but In terms of initial preferences as mentioned

Good lighting on night driving as I am missing these in 800

You can get in all in terms of
> Peace of Mind Ownership
> Very competitive service cost
> Ideal for relaxed drive. Nios AMT has best response in AMT gearbox across hatchback cars
> Suspension tuned for comfort oriented ride
> Yes can get in maximum features in Nios Sportz or Asta AMT
> Lighting is something which can upgrade using Osram Night Vision or LED Bulbs - which are easy plug and play. no issues in that

But the only con is that this car scored misrably with 2 star in Global NCAP rating - which is what the biggest con
If thats something ready to ignore and give more importance to driving skills - Nios AMT can be considered, else may reject

Hi Sir,

Thanks for answering my queries. Today I got test drive of WRV as well as Jazz CVT. WRV Petrol is not available for test drive. So they have provided Diesel vehicle. As you have mentioned WR-V is very good and looks more premium. Even Jazz also looks big car and very comfortable to drive.

As my wife was asking for learning now I am confused whether to choose Jazz CVT or Nios for her learning purpose.Or to go with manual car and ask her to learn driving through driving class.

How Jazz CVT for learning purpose.

Hi,

See if you seek a car for learning perspective then its better to consider a Used Automatic car choice

But, still if you made up mind for New car then
> Nios AMT is value buy budget AMT with segment best AMT response
> Jazz CVT is more spacious, even better tuned with more sturdier and certainly a better product but yes cost higher too

So have to set priorities on what you seek
> From Learning perspective : Buy a Used AT Car, hold for a year and sell it off
then buy a new one basis budget price point.
If flexible on budget then Jazz CVT is better choice and better product. But if seek compact one in lesser price with segment best AMT actuator response then Nios AMT in price point is value buy

Hope should help !!

Thanks for your support so far. It's very good support. Almost I am going to finalize my decision this week.

Planned to go with new car only and decided to buy in native in Tamilnadu itself instead of Bangalore.

I took test drive of WR-V and Brezza both.

WR-V SV Variant - Discounts - 9000 (5000+ Corporate) - The Price with extended warranty after discounts - 10.12 lakhs
Brezza VXI - Discounts - 2000 - Price with extended warranty after discounts - 9.78 lakhs / Urban cruiser Mid - Offers - 8000 - 9.98 lakhs
Brezza ZXI - Discounts - 2000 - Price with extended warranty after discounts - 10.64 lakhs / Urban cruiser High - Offers - 8000 - 10.79 lakhs.

For Brezza, dealer yet to confirm corporate discount.

At the same time My family members says hatchback is enough. So requested for test drive to check ground clearance.

So Jazz prize is coming as below,

Jazz VMT - Offers - 9000 (5000+Corporate) - Price with extended warranty - 8.88
Jazz V CVT - Offers - 9000 (5000+ Corporate) - Price with extended warranty - 10.12

Honda showroom is 50 km away from my native. I understood from test drive.

- Brezza has advantage in engine performance.
- WRV has advantage interior and exterior look.

- Rear space: Incase of Brezza headrest is advantage and WRV seat angle is good. My wife likes headrest in Brezza.

1) Between WRV SV and VXI which is good? [ WRV SV 20,000 high]
2) Between WRV SV and ZXI which is good ? [ Brezza ZXI - 70,000 high] [ 70000 extra value for money ?]

[ I feel WRV SV is value for money still wanted to confirm]

Incase after taking Jazz test drive, if family feels Jazz is fine then which one to consider

3) Jazz V MT or Jazz V CVT ? My question is it worth spend around 1.4 lakhs for CVT or choose WRV?

4) Between Brezza and Urban cruiser - there is around 15000 difference (Considering upto 5 years of warranty ) - Is it worth to spend 15000 extra for Toyota service perspective later ? [ I feel Brezza has advantage.]

Hi

Dont think that discounts should be criteria to shorlist your car purchase

But basis queries as referred
> Jazz MT or CVT : You will enjoy in CVT Automatic lot better than Manual as thats signature element of Jazz
> Brezza and Urban Cruiser : No Point in spending 15K higher for Urban Cruiser. Brezza would then be worth to consider in
> If by any chance you seek in between Jazz and WRV in Manual : WRV in Manual Transmission is better pick over Jazz Manual
> If you go in with Brezza : Brezza Zxi is superior value basis better lifestyle features which will cherish in experience on long term over Vxi

Hope should help !!

Thanks for your detailed information. I took test drive of Jazz manual. Finally decided to go with manual. As you have mentioned I too choose Wr-V over Jazz.

Now I am end up in 2 options. Between Wr-V SV and Brezza ZXI , which will be value buy for my requirements.

Hope this will be my final question on choosing car.

I will update you my decision next.

Hi,

Given a choice Brezza Zxi would be best buy for need if not give too much importance to plastic quality and interior aesthetics

Will love in sheer output of
> 1.5 Litre Engine
> Maruti proven Safety rating where stricture too marked stable in crash (WRV rating is in unknown zone)
> Rear Seat comes with adjustable head restraints (although yes rear seat recline angle are slight on upright basis)

Thanks Gagan sir. Your suggestions helped me to finalize my car buying decision.I am going to book Brezza ZXI.

Your blog posts on best build, best safety, best suspension cars segment wise and post on safety ratings, videos on value buy cars helped me a lot to understand and choose my car.

Thanks a lot for your support so far. I am fully satisfied with your support.

For Brezza I am planning to opt below accessories,

Mud flap, Full Mat and Mats, Rear Camera. I am thinking whether to go for seat cover or not?

Any other accessories are needed for Brezza ZXI?

I feel front and back extensors provided with basic accessories are not required. So I am planning not to choose basic accessories pack.

Hi,

Sure,
Seat cover dont feel is needed. Fabric seats are good enough to go and they are dark - just go for cleansing once a year and all good
Rear view camera can be fitted with display in touchscreen from Maruti showroom itself

rest for useful accessories may check this post on Useful Car Accessories
