Hello Gagan Sir,

Even though Ecosport Diesel is quite fun and recommended by you in an earlier question i asked, current uncertainty over Ford India future has impacted the overall confidence in going for Ecosport as resale value might take a big hit should I decide to sell it in future. I am likely to make decision in next two weeks on finalizing my car.

I have driven Nexon Petrol and Diesel variants, there is enough power in sports mode for Nexon Petrol variant too. If I go for Nexon, within city I will most likely be using either City or occasionally sport mode. Sonet Diesel is fun to drive too, might be slightly better than Nexon Sport mode, as i don't remember how much better it felt, due to dealership issues in Pune i couldn't get Nexon Petrol to drive around same time, got it much later.

Which one to go for is the confusion here, both cars (variants in consideration) cost exactly same. Even though Sonet claims better ARAI mileage, in real world tank to tank tests it hasn't significantly outperformed Nexon Petrol mileage either. I might get 13-14kmpl in city with Sonet Diesel and 18-20kmpl on highways based on many reviews. So mileage difference isn't helping me finalizing between two. Sonet has advantage in driving dynamics while Nexon Petrol offers few more features over Sonet HTX Diesel.

I guess it will come down to maintenance costs and after sale services, speaking of which,

1. Will DPF issues be a deal breaker if i drive 50-60% of the times in city? (Potential issue with Sonet Diesel)
2. Is real world mileage advantage going to offset scheduled service cost difference between Nexon Petrol and Sonet Diesel.
3. Which ones of the missing features from Sonet HTX (over NExon XZ+(S) can be retrofitted from dealership should i decide to go for Sonet. (features like, Rear Wipers and TPMS are useful to me)
3. While it's hard to predict and by no means a certainty, based on Current feedback which one is likely to offer better resale value?

Please help with this confusion.

Hi Akshay ji,

1. Will DPF issues be a deal breaker if i drive 50-60% of the times in city? (Potential issue with Sonet Diesel)
Been DPF role is to trap soot and burn it so as to have reduced emission -
It happens over a period of time where DPF gets clogged due to
> Short distance ride
> Ride within city in lower speed

as trapped soot is not burned in - thus a warning sign of DPF been clogged comes in (at around 80% soot been filled in DPF) and regeneration is required which essentially means cleaning the soot and same possible
> Higher speed above 60 Kmph for 20 minutes or so
> Above 2500 rpm drive for 30 minutes

In event of soot been filled in 100% - one may not even be able to drive car and thus requires regen at workshop

So - important aspect towards DPF gets clogged when maximum usage is short distance ride and ride at lower speed.
But, even in city even if driven for 5 to 10 minutes at speed of 60 - will help in clearing soot to an extent

Now specific to your case been considerable 40% drive on highway - i dont foresee any DPF related issues to be faced by you

2. Is real world mileage advantage going to offset scheduled service cost difference between Nexon Petrol and Sonet Diesel.
Despite of Diesel - Kia Sonet Diesel has quiet competitve service cost. Check out - Sonet Diesel Service Cost

Infact theres 5 yr / 50K Kms Service Pack on Kia Sonet Diesel which is what available for Rs 27,500 (with GST) and includes even Alignment, Balancing once a year and under-body coating and rodent plan too. Its fairly competitive considering inclusions

Nexon AMC package cost too is competitive. However, for Nexon Petrol it cost Rs 38,000 approx for 4 yr / 60K Kms - yes includes some wear & tear components too

Net all - dont expect Sonet Diesel to cost you higher in scheduled service cost against Nexon Petrol. But yes some wear & tear items like
> Clutch Plate assembly
> Battery
in Diesel cars will cost relative higher against Petrol

3. Which ones of the missing features from Sonet HTX (over NExon XZ+(S) can be retrofitted from dealership should i decide to go for Sonet. (features like, Rear Wipers and TPMS are useful to me)
Unsure if Kia fits in TPMS - but that can be retro fitted easily
Rear Wash Wiper can not be fitted in
Is there any specific feature you looking - let know will provide availability status

4. While it's hard to predict and by no means a certainty, based on Current feedback which one is likely to offer better resale value?
Nexon is now featuring in top 3 in sales and with Tata improved focus on service, better performance, safety and competive price point with improved engine performance along with products like Harrier, Safari and future portfolio - Tata Motors turn around its reputation and be assured theres good amount of demand too in used car market also for Nexon, Harrier

So - even if you go ahead with Nexon - be assured Tata is making all things correct and at time of resale - its the condition which matters
Lastly - post Seltos rating as 3 star - it came as a big shocker to all.

Overall
See Nexon offers
> Better Build Quality as proven 5 star one
> Improved Features List
and fact that some wear & tear items like clutch plate, battery would entail in lower cost

If you dont care much about running cost - Nexon Petrol is a good choice

However yes, from
> Running cost perspective
> Engine NVH on higher side
> Kia is quiet competitive in after sales
> Somehow driving dynamics of Sonet Diesel appeals more
if thats preference then Sonet Diesel is what should go out with

Hope should help !!

Hi Akshay,
Consider Nexon diesel also. Heard that Nexon petrol gives poor mileage.

@Gagan sir, though I am not comfortable with hindi, I am following ur channel. Your contents are great. If possible add english sub titles, so the videos reach max viewers.
For cars like Nexon which engine is better turbo petrol or diesel? Please suggest.
