Sir,

Since I have revised my budget to 10 lakhs, I have just paid Rs. 499/-(21.7.21)for your valuable advise.
Please suggest an overall good car value for money . As I already said it's for both city drive and occasional long drives. It's to be used mostly by two people.

Presently, in my mind I am thinking of Amaze VX or Jazz, but I don't know it's a correct decision. I want to leave it to you for your suggestion for alternate brands.

Thanks & Regards.

Dear Joe Sahab,

Amaze
Honda Amaze is an excellent car for someone who is to drive with maximum usage in
> City Drive conditions
> Seek Comfort oriented ride with soft suspension
> Likes relaxed drive

However,
> High Speed Dynamics in terms of steering feedback
> High Speed Grip Levels of car

feels pretty medicore and not something which is well appreciated for someone having mix usage drive of city and highway

Jazz
Feels better with
> Superior grip,
> Stability,
> More sturdy in Build
> Better aesthetics, interiors against Amaze

and all round driving dynamics are a notch better

But
> Due to slight higher kerb weight - performance factor is relative average in Jazz as against Amaze
> Jazz has bi-annual service schedule - means 2 service a year making scheduled service cost on higher note than Amaze

However, If its Manual Transmission - somehow Honda WRV basis retuned suspension in SV Petrol feels better against Jazz in driving dynamics and with wider tyres adds on with superior grip factor. Only thing to WRV is Slight stiffer gear shift but suggest to have test drive

But - not all are performance enthusiast, still to get the best from Manual Transmission - one can downshift a gear to experience

However, been budget on your side - kind note that as against Manual Transmission - Jazz shines a lot better in CVT Automatic and is something can seriousy consider in been this car has paddle shifters too for getting a slight sporty character to car.

So, in between Jazz and Amaze - our recommendation
> Drive in WRV Manual Transmission : Its a great upgrade over Jazz. WRV SV is feature loaded and has a more differentiating road presence and most importantly comes with annual service schedule, WRV also has annual service schedule as against Jazz having bi-annual one. So expect yearly Service cost to be lower

> If you seek to add convenience factor : Jazz V CVT can be something which can add a relaxed feel with added convenience factor. Also - paddle shifters can be used to enjoy in experience but yes comes at a cost with higher service cost

Alternative choice
If you seek Performance aspect too and dont seek to compromise in same - Hyundai I20 Sportz IMT Turbo is a great consideration
With IMT you get
> Convenience of drive without any clutch pedal
> Turbo Petrol Engine has strong mid range performance
> Engine NVH Levels
> After Sales Service cost is on lower side too
> 5 year wonder warranty / 40,000 Kms without any extra charge
and for July Hyundai offering Rs 25,000 cash discount on I20 IMT Turbo - which was not there in previous month making it an impressive deal pack

So, basis preference factors - make a choice
Important to test drive in as thats utmost important.

Hope should help !!

Sir,

I am watching this space couple of months. Your suggestions are very useful. I too asked questions in this forum. Regarding Jazz service, Honda website says annual service for Jazz 2020 onwards. Please refer

https://www.hondacarindia.com/honda-services/owners/costofmaintenance

But you have mentioned bi annual. Please correct if I am wrong and sorry.

Thanks again for great work.

Thanks Rajesh ji
Yes Honda revamped service schedule for Jazz BS6 Model from 2020 August onwards to 1 year / 10K Kms
Indeed is correct

@Joe Sahab - Kind note that Jazz service interval too similar to WRV Now - so no difference as such in scheduled service cost as what pointed out in 1st reply.

Sir,
Thanks for your valuable advise.
I will decide between Honda WRV or Hyundai I-20 Turbo IMT as per your advise.

1. IMT Technology is a newly introduced one, I think. Will there be anything to worry in the future?

2. Are the I-20 door panels are light weight ?

3. Engine noise, if any in I-20?

4. What's engine NVH levels? Really I don't know.

Regards.

Hi,

1. IMT is Manual Transmission only but there are sensor placed on gear. So when driver touch in gear, this gives a command from ECU to engage clutch (in less than fraction of mili second) and when he removes hand then clutch is disengaged. So only add on work over Manual Transmission is that this actuator is mapped towards signal from gear shift. Essentially implies - no reliability issues

But still suggest to go through this post on IMT Cars

2. If you asking from safety perspective, do note that door panels have no corelation with car safety. Etios which scored 4 star earlier had light door panels too. Rather safety determined from engineering design, seat belts, crumple zone, active & passive safety, speed and build of car along with driver skills as factor

3. Nothing to be called bothersome

4. Engine NVH means noise and vibration harness.

Sir,
I gone through the link sent by you regarding IMT.
There are many warnings that one should not do while driving IMT. So I hesitate to go for Hyundai I-20 Turbo IMT.
I would like to go for Honda W-RV manual as per your suggestion since it also comes under 10 lakh budget.

If you don't mind, my last question is only this. May be you might tell that this is not a follow up question. I don't know.
---" Skoda Rider (basic) is a under 10 lakh budget car. Can I consider? It's pros and cons.
Sir,
I am ready to pay another Rs. 499/- if you consider this question as a different one.

Hi,

Its fine
See Skoda Rapid Rider Plus in itself is a great choice basis
> Superior Mid range performance. Post 2000 rpm car is real fun experience
> Steering dynamics and suspension dynamics makes a great ride, handling car
> Build Quality feels a notch ahead of many cars in segment
> Bigger Boot Space, Better rear space
> Makes Better road presence with a bigger 4.3 Meter car

However,
> Kind note that clutch travel range is lot longer and you can definite find lot more stiffness towards it
> Theres definite a lag under 2000 rpm
> Although Skoda investing heavily in localisation and reducing cost of spares and engine oil cost been reduced too - but if you going to compare Skoda Rapid against Honda WRV - expect WRV with annual scheduled service cost lower than Rapid

Important to understand
> Honda WRV is for relaxed drive, comfort and suspension absorb bad roads fair easily. Steering relative feels light and tuned for city / moderate speed
> Skoda Rapid is for enthusiasts with exemplary performance on highway dynamics. Steering dynamics is better on high speed

Both Cars have there different traits. Important to have preference set on what is need to make right pick.
Hope should help !!

Sir,
Thanks for your clarifications.
There is one doubt regarding the tyre size Sir.
In any brand of cars they provide R-15 size tyre in lower and mid end and give R-16 size tyre in higher end.
Will the same car having 16 inch Tyre will give less milage than that of car having 15 inch Tyre?
Regards.

Hi

Been Tyre Circumference remains more or less similar - hence mileage wont have much impact (negligible)
But - Wider tyres looks more macho and provided superior grip

Suggest to refer on Tyre Upsize Calculator
Should assist you with it !!

Thanks for your suggestions sir.

Your suggestions regarding Jazz W-RV manual (SV) petrol convince me a lot as it seems to suit my preferences.

Since my son owns a Jazz VX CVT, I know it's milage. Can u tell me the mileage one can expect from Jazz W-RV?

Secondly, I would like to know whether the turning radius of W-RV is uncomfortable when compared to Jazz?

Thanks & regards.

Hi Joe Sahab,

Mileage is based on number of factors. But due to
> Wider Tyres
> Tall Body Design
> Raised Ground Clerance
> Marginally higher weight

Expect Fuel Efficiency to be marginally of WRV to be lower than Jazz CVT in real world condition
As referred is marginal - fuel efficiency difference at max will be 5%

Also, as tyres gets wider - turning radius will be marginally higher. But steering response on standalone perspective is lights and due to wider tyres and retuned suspension
> High Speed Handling aspect is better
> High Speed Grip levels are better
> Suspension dynamics feel fairly better when drive on upcountry roads, poor roads

Hope should help !!

Sir,
I have booked a car last week. Your valuable advise helped me a lot. Thanks.

I am thinking of taking Extended Warranty to the extent the company gives. My doubt is - whether the things (parts) that are covered in original warranty are also covered in extended warranty in full without any ommision. Or both are different.

Secondly, in accessories - is the rear 'spoiler' a fancy item or a useful one? Does it help fuel efficiency to some extent?.

Regards.

Hello Joe Sahab,

Yes Extended warranty is recommended.

Spoiler can avoid - although its considered for aerodynamics, but the spoiler as shown with various car models are only for show off and no such aerodynamics achieved in.

Hope should help !!

Sir,
Is the billing of "handling charges" by the dealer of the car is justified?.
Please advise me. Only after hearing from you, I will decide whether to pay or not.

Thanks.
