Sir,

This is Joe Ravikumar from Erode (Tamilnadu).
I want to buy a new car. Both city drive and long drive. Mostly city drive. (my city has not that much traffic) and occasional long drive (450 kms). I want to buy a car within a budget of 9 lakh. Good suspension, smooth drive, no vibration at higher speeds(my maximum is 110 kmph) & safety to some extent.

I want rather compact model.
I want Yr. advise whether I can go for WW-Polo and if so which model ? If not, which car I can opt for?. Kind of you.

Regards,
Joe Ravikumar,

Dear Joe

Greetings !!

See Polo is a 3 Cylinder engine car, and although its not like typical 3 cylinder engine as seen in budget segment but
> Engine noise is slight there on higher speed
> Marginal vibrations at idling felt

Having said same from
> Power Performance perspective you will love in smooth mid range
> Very impressive Build Quality - infact a notch better than segment above
> High speed dynamics are lot better than any other car in segment. Will love Steering feedback
> Its not a soft suspension, but still not very stiff and USP is high speed grip levels are better

Polo Comfortline TSI is a great choice provided as long as you looking for
> Majority of drive with front passengers / solo drive
> Rear seat not to be much used or if used by kids / average physique with someone of height 5'3" or less
> Not to be used by elederly as they placed slight lower

However, yes Slight Lag under 2000 rpm is observant
So if one adjust driving style by down-shifting can get best from Polo

Alternate Choice
Provided ready to exceed in budget a bit - to extent of Rs 70K and seek a car where rear seat to be used by senior members of family - check out Toyota Urban Cruiser Mid (as rebadged Brezza Vxi) with reasons
> This is a 4 cylinder engine and as such tuned for excellent comfort in city drive
> Very impressive for Lower End In city drive-ability
> Relative Easy Ingress / Egress if seek a car where rear seat to be used by senior members of family
> Suspension dynamics are quiet impressive for city conditions
> Very Reliable, Proven Car with Superior after sales service experience

But, downside
> Toyota (rebadged Maruti) has very average plastic quality
> Interior aesthetics - rather will find it too boring in 2021
> Speed beyond 100 Kmph not recommended as engine noise will start entering
> Steering feedback beyond 100 not the best - feels mediocre
> Rear Seat are placed slight upright

Suggest to have test drive
To view - great choice cars.

Thanks Sir.
After seeing your reply I have almost decided to go for Polo comfortlineTSI sir.
1.However my son is warning me that Wolkswagon company will leave India shortly. I don't know whether it's true or not.But in that scenario, will it be a problem for service maintenance (spares).
2.Secondly, opting for TSI engine is O. K? . Are there any problems in TSI engines.
3. My last query - Can Polo comfortlineTSI can be preferred over Amaze 'S' model.
That's all Sir.
Regards,
Joe Ravikumar.

Hi,

I can confirm you that
> VW India investing over 5000 crore in Indian Market and going to launch in 10 cars by 2025, Kushaq & Octavia is already launched
Taigun on the way and another 7 more models to come in next 4 yrs
This is as per media night event they conducted in 2020

> Absolute no issues, just adopt idling for 30 seconds as first start in morning and 30 second when stopping from high speed drve

> Amaze S is spacious and comes with soft suspension and good low end performane. However steering dynamics are not a match on higher speed as comapre to Polo
Polo is a car for driving enthusiast who seek better build, immaculate steering (Amaze steering feels vague on higher speed), superior build and yes suspension dynamics ensure high speed drive remains well in control

If you love driving - be assured Polo TSI is league better.

Sir,
Can you tell me the mileage that VW POLO (Comfortline TSI) can give in city drive and long drive and when both mixed.

For information that my city has average traffic only and not like that of Bangalore or Chennai.

2. Taking additional one year warranty (for 5th year) is advisable or not.

Joe Ravikumar.

Sir,
Only my question has been posted on the mycarhelpline forum and your reply has not been posted somehow.

Firstly I had asked for the mileage that can be expected from the VW POLO (Comfortline TSI).

Secondly whether it is advisable to take extended warranty for the 5th year at the time of purchase of new vehicle.

Thanks.

Hi Ravi ji,

Mileage
Yes, see Mileage is a factor which is highly influenced by lot of factors including
> Average speed of car
> Traffic conditions
> Loadings in car
> Wind speed
> Idling at red light and all

Still anything around 12 Kmpl in most of city roads is a good fuel efficiency to consider in TSI Petrol
Been you referred initially that your city do not have much traffic - 12 to 13 KMpl can be a reasonable expectation
But while on the go on highway if cruising at say speed of 80 Kmph - 16 to 17 Kmpl is well achievable,

Extended Warranty
Not only 5th, but we suggest to explore for 6 yr warranty
Been part failure probability is higher at later years
However, yes costing is steep at around Rs 30K for 6 yr warranty.
Also we recommend in AMC Maintenance package which is what called service value pack for 4+1 yr = 5 yr available at Rs 38K

All this will ensure peace of mind ownership
Hope should help !!

Hi Sir,

This is Varun. I also want to buy Polo but confused between the comfortline TSI AT & highline TSI AT.

On a long term after 5-6 years, which variant is VFM? It's like a need vs want analysis.

Sir,
This is a portion of your last reply to me regarding extended warranty.

Surely I will take extended warranty as per your advise. However,

Can you explain in brief about" higher Part failure probability in POLO TSI.

2. Secondly, what is the difference between metallic and non-metallic paints. Is it worth spending for metallic one.

3. Lastly, is 1.0 mpi engine in POLO is more underpowered.? Because if it's TSI engine, I can go only for "Comfortline". Whereas in case of 1.0 mpi engine, one can afford to buy "Highline" model.

Hi Joe Sahab,

Pls find inputs

Extended Warranty
What is meant is that probability of failure of automotive components (irrespective of brand) is higher in later years
Been as a general trend seen that mechanical part failure in any car is higher from 5th to 6th year as against first 3 to 4 yrs - hence a warranty option if given can lead to peace of mind.

Having said same - its not specific to Polo TSI but with any Passenger car brand

Metallic and non-metallic paints
Non Metallic paints are generally White and red in Polo which has Matte finish
While Metallic paints have kind of gloss/ to it

No Difference in quality - its the individual perspective

1.0 MPI & TSI
Engine is core component and commands premium.
few years back where polo GTI was available at 20 Lakh (where only difference was Engine & Suspension)

Anyway, Polo MPI is good for relaxed drive
TSI Engine are turbo charged, and care for enthusiastic performance with superior mid range Polo TSI delivers a superior experience. You will never complain for mid range power delivery.

Hope should help !!

Sir,
After going through your reply mails I had decided to buy a new Polo TSI. however my friends who own Polo cars discourage me on the grounds of poor milage.
Hence Now I have raised my budget to 10 lakhs (maximum) and request you to suggest a car that offers

1.Rather reasonable mileage
2. Smooth drive, durability in performance and reasonable build - in-quality.
3.No engine noise and steering vibration on higher speed (my maximum speed is 100 kms or 110 kms)
4. Very comfortable front seats. Me and my wife are going to use the car mostly. We do not concern about the very occasional rear seat passengers or leg room space etc..

Thanks and regards.

Dear Joe,

Thats a separate question been budget revised and not related to original one,
We make all effort with research based answer to assist in consumers.

Somehow premium support enables 1 question with follow up queries related to same.

Still as an exception - Been Budget revised to 10 Lakh and basis updated requirements of
> Build Quality
> Performance
> No Engine Noise, NVH
> Fuel Efficiency
> Comfortable front seat

Its like a dream car proposition but Unfortunately - theres no one car which can meet in all.
Closest Match to it would be Hyundai I20 Sportz IMT Turbo . May check it out !!
