Hi Sir,

Need some suggestions regarding my new car booking.

I had booked an EcoSport diesel and it is ready for delivery. But recently I heard some news about Ford planning to stop business in India and will exit soon like they did in Brazil. So I'm a little skeptical whether to go ahead with Ford ES or cancel and search for another car. Could you please help me to get correct information regarding FORD.

Hello Ajay ji,

Greetings !!

Indeed a news article was published in TOI that Ford looking to wrap Indian Operations
As per news article - Ford in talks for sale of Indian Factories, and low capacity utilization is another challenge been capacity is of 4 Lakh Cars per annum but sales rather challenging with recorded sales was less than 60,000 cars in last 1 year

However, Ford India declined to comment on to it as per news source and said news speculative.

Now coming to your question - Ford planning to stop business in India
See Ford India facing challenging times. With a combined capacity of 4 Lakh Cars a Year - see Capacity Utilisation

Especially if we observe sales its on
> Decreasing trend of Sales
> JV been called off in between Ford Mahindra
> Increased competition where Ford Signature product Ecosport is facing competition with recent launched cars like Venue, Sonet along with enhancements in Nexon impacting sales to considerable extent
> Other than Freestyle which was launched in 2018 as altogether new model - its only Facelifts or upgrades been introduced by Manufacturer

So thats a concerning aspect

But, kind note that
> Ford is in Indian Market for over 20 years been sold over 1.1 Miliion Cars in Indian Market
> A big chunk of Exports too happening from Ford
> After sales service network will continue on to provide (even if by rare chance for any reason ford decide to cease sales operations in India)
> Company introducing Figo Automatic in new 1.2 Litre engine in Indian Market
> BS6 Diesel Cars of Ford had some DPF issues and Ford India resolving it expected to complete by 3rd week of July
> Fact remains that Ford Ecosport Diesel remains an excellent value in Performance. handling and carries DNA of SUV which most other SUV Cars are missing

so Ford still trying to make it in Indian Market and possibly with good amount of exports - they will try to be be afloat

Answer to your question is: No Company will publicy announce closure unless they have sold in 99% of stock from retail market as theres huge interest and heavy investment from different stakeholders in form of Dealer network

This is quiet a sensitive area and if Ford India indeed decide to cease ops - they will hold this news at very last stage till time retail inventory at dealer counter been exhausted to levels of 95% at most of them.

But our view is that Should continue with Ecosport Diesel if planning a long term purchase
From combination package of Performance, Handling, Build Dynamics and Ecosport as product is global success - yes times are challenging but trust the feel factor is rarely been available in any other car in segment

Hope should help !!
