Hello,

I have bought your premium support for one month, please see the screenshot below.. Need you help with my questions below.

I am looking for your suggestion on whether I should buy a new car or continue to use my existing car. I had bought a used Skoda Rapid MPI - Auto (Make Jan 2012) in 2015 directly from the owner at around 4.5 lacs it had run around 32000 Km at that time. I have an issue with my left leg as I cannot use it for a longer time so had to go for an auto transmission. It has been over 5 years now and the current mileage which I have put on the car is around 72000 km. Since I bought the car I got 2 tires replaced and had to do major maintenance work one which costed around 36000 INR (work done at company showroom) and recently around 4 months back the timing chain of the engine had broken down so had to got it replaced and there were other things are level and the service costed me around 65000 INR. Also, the shock absorbers were replaced (front as well as rear back). Current car gives mileage around 10 - 14 kms/ltr

Until last year, I hardly drove the car in the city and mostly it was driven on the highway as I used to visit my farm which is around 250 kms away from where I stay. However, in the last year or so I have been frequently visiting my farm and mostly the roads have not been in good conditions and that is one reason the shock absorbers are getting weared out frequently (Company Service center have asked to get front shock absorbers changed and well as bearings). The other reason I think is as I go to the farm I get my farm produce (around 100 -150 kgs) in the car's trunk and the number of passengers are mostly 3 adults and a kid.

Kindly, let me know if I should buy a new car or continue to use the same one for another year or so (As there have been 2 major breakdowns the car doesn't give me mental peace if I think of going on long drives). As I got the engine timing chain work done I am told that nothing will happen to the engine for another 50K-60K kms.

If I buy a new car below will be my priorities.
1. Auto transmission
2. Safety
3. Space (front, rare as well as boot) - mostly I drive on highways and as said I get some farm produce (around 100 kg) + total members in family 5 (3 Adults including me + 2 kids)
4. Mileage
5. Performance

Budget: Around 10 lacs to 15 Lacs if you suggest buying a new car.

Thanks,
Amol.

The other thing on my mind is to continue to keep current car and by a smaller car within 6-8 lacs budget which should have good milage, can be used only when I travel alone to farm.

One more point to mention that for me basic features are sufficient and I don't run behind gigzmo things.

Thanks,
Amol.

Hai Amol Sahab,

Greetings !!

New Car or Continue with Existing one
I truely appreciate to keep car in good shape by spending a moolah on Skoda Rapid and yes
> Rs 65,000 matters a lot in terms of timing change, shocker replacement and that too 4 months back for a 9 year Old Car
> Rs 36,000 as another for scheduled service
> 2 Tyres been replaced

and that too wiithin 5 years of ownership - making almost Rs 20,000+ annually

Although car has several wear & tear items but i trust and presume that service center has inspected car closely and perform all necessary replacements as required.

Been Rs 65,000 was spent just a few months back important to note that if you going to sell this car - you just cant get this money back or even 20% of it in resale front. However, as an owner - you also aware that you made all attempt to keep car in top condition by using original spares and all services from company authorized workshop only

If there is no mechanical issue with the vehicle in terms of engine, compression, power loss, turbo charge - it makes all sense to continue with this vehicle for few more years and not to dispose it off.

Skoda Rapid is an immaculate build car witn top notch suspension, steering dynamics - which is rare to find it in modern age car.
So if no major mechanical issue with the car - its makes all sense to continue with it

Second Car
From Fuel Efficiency Perspective, Reasonable Value Proposition perspective in - Swift Vxi AMT is a great consideration for purchase

Hello Gagan ji,

Thanks for your response. I will think over your suggestion as I am also not willing to sell off the car as it's performing well and about buying a second car I will plan to get a test drive of swift vxi amt as suggested.

I am located in Maharashtra and I see the cost here is going somewhere 7.9 lacs something will visit the dealership and will get back to you with exact quotation.

Thanks,
Amol.

Thanks for your email. I will check with maruti customer support and get back to you. Also, about my second question on other options I can look apart from swift vxi AMT. Budget I can extend between 8-10 lacs. Grand Nios i10 or Tata Tiagor ATM or any other option.

Thanks again,
Amol.

Hi,

Basis road conditions as specified Tata Tigor AMT

Although yes
> Initial response in terms of creep is slight slower
> Somehow Engine NVH is on higher side

But, if you experience by
> Toggling to Sports mode button
> Basis Build Quality of Car'
> Suspension Dynamics on bad roads
> Larger Boot Space of 400 Litres

Tigor XMA AMT would be worth a consideration to choose too and yes value perspective too.

Thanks for your response Modiji,

More than 80 % my drives are on highway and as said my priority are automatic, safety, fuel efficiency and low maintenance. I will look at Tiagor XMA AMT, I am not behind feature list.

The other car I am impressed with is Amaze 1.5 S CVT Diesel. Would that be a right option to consider if I think of increasing my budget or you can suggest anything else.

Thanks again and sorry for bothering you this much.

Regards,
Amol.

Amol ji,

Theres no doubt that Amaze S Diesel CVT is a great choice basis
> Convenience
> Space
> Lower Running Cost
> 4 Star Safety Rating
> Very Impressive Boot Space

But, point is this car will cost in close to 3 Lakh premium over Tigor XMA AMT and yet a fact remains Tigor suspension is better than Amaze
Its like entering in a notch above segment.

See - budget is your perspective - if you feel like spending in close to 10 Lakh range then absolutely Amaze Diesel CVT can meet in requirements at large. But from cost efficiency perspective - Tigor XMA AMT - do test drive in too and toggle in with sports button while on the go.

Original recommendation car Swift recently got price hike of Rs 15K - which was never anticipated basis fact that Swift got a price hike in April too which was a sharp one. Also, dealer showroom in your city offering limited offers which again take away value advantage with swift,

Hope should help !!

Hello Gagan Ji,

I had put my plan to buy a car on hold as I thought to continue with my existing Rapid as you had also mentioned above to continue with car for few more years. However, there are few more problems which have raised in such as engine external belt and its rollers are required to be replaced, will have to replace 2 tyres as have been there over 4 years now and also the front shock absorbers and its mounting are required to be replaced as got the car inspected due to noise which was coming from engine external rollers and belts. Considering this cost I am thinking to sell of the car and go for new one. I have dropped the idea of going for diesel cvt as its very costly and also I don't see any value or cost benefit even in long run with disel cvt.

As you suggested, have looked at Tata Tigor, however family members (2 kids + Mother and wife) didn't find is comfortable in rear seat. So looked at other options around, will need your help to finalize one.

With Budget around 10-11 lacs as I will be exchanging my car.

1. Honda Jazz V CTV or VX CVT
2. Honda Amaze VX CTV - with new upgrade launching today they dealer said that they won't have V CVT version going forward its will be just S CVT and VX CVT
3. Baleno Zeta CVT

I am looking forward to buy the car considering that I will use it for another 7-8 years. So was just thinking of going to next segment.

1. Ciaz Zeta 4 speed Torque Converter
2. Honda City V - CTV (I feel its complete package from safety and from all other perspective as its ticks up every aspect, but way costly by 2 lacs even compared to Ciaz Zeta Automatic)

My average running per month is around 1000-1500 km and its mostly on highways and some part (10-20 kms monthly) on rough roads as I travel to my farm over weekends. I am not a very enthusiast driver who would want to rush through the drivers, generally I drive between 70-90 KM/hr and once a while very rarely I touch 100 mark but never beyond that.

Mileage, Safety, Low Cost of maintenance and family friendly car is what I am looking for.

Kindly suggest.

Thanks,
Amol.
