Hello, I’m Dr. M. M. Feroze and I am a teacher in the department of Law at a Degree College.
I have been consistently following your channel from last 1 year. Your videos seem to be precise and pragmatic. So eventually I stopped viewing other YouTubers and solely focused on your videos.

I want to buy a new car and my budget is INR 6-8 lakhs at show room price. And following are my requirements-
•automatic transmission
•average distance to be driven=20-25km
•driving within the city mainly, with a trip of 200-250 km 3-4 times a year
•as per your advice I don’t require compact SUV and other fancy stuff like sun roof, push button ignition, voice command etc.
As you rightly said, “car is a means of mobility and a depreciating asset”, therefore my focus will be on its suspension, handling and safety.

People are advising me to purchase, Honda Amaze, i10 nios, Aura, Ford eco sport free style, Figo, Tata Tiago and Tigor, Maruti Swift etc.

I request you to kindly provide me with your expert advice.

Dear Dr. Feroze,

Greetings !!
Thanks, Glad to assist in

As your requirement is primarily for city use, you should opt for a car which offers
> Comfort in suspension perspective
> Light Steering
> Car with Short Turning Radius
> Reliable, Fuel Efficient and Competitve in Maintenance cost

Been Automatic car makes a perfect sense, here are best 2 choices based on budget as specified

1. Honda Amaze S CVT: A Brilliant engineered car from Honda which is actually designed for buyers having 95%+ in city use
> Unlike world of AMT Cars in Budget segment which is Automated Manual Transmission, Amaze is CVT as proper modern choice automatic transmisison.
> CVT is super refined and absolute no lag, no jerks with smooth power delivery for day to day city use
> Suspension is tuned for soft side, offers comfort oriented drive on good city roads
> Steering is fair light, almost having lowest turning radius in segment
> With revamped service schedule of 1 Year / 10,000 Kms - scheduled service cost reduced substantially. Although not lowest but still competitive service cost, may expect paid service in range of Rs 6000 a year (keeping inflationary factors)
> 4 Star Safety Rated car (Amaze as sold in Africa, similar to Indian version scored 4 star in Global NCAP)

Downside
> Handling dynamics can go for a toss, lacks steering feedback on high speed
> Been suspension on excessive soft note - car do not feel as stable on higher speed
> If you reside in city having too much of broken roads / potholes - have to go real slow
> Smaller 14 Inch wheels lacks grip on higher speed

So, as you find that this is a car which is what designed for in city use and near perfect for anyone having maximum in city use

2. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Magna AMT:
> Although AMT, this is a no-nonsense car. AMT response in Hyundai by far is the best with relative least jerks/pause effect felt in AMT. For anyone who go relaxed on accelerator may sometime feel like driving a torque converter automatic car - thats the kind of work which Hyundai did in this AMT
> Suspension dynamics are pretty well sorted, infact will rate Nios suspension better than Amaze. if having slight bad patch roads in city - car just glides on easily
> Fair light steering, good to hold - ideal for city use condition
> Good Pleasing Interiors, car feel upmarket on both interiors and exteriors
> Comes with almost all essential styling, safety, convenience features which a car need to have in present time (except front fog light & defogger)
> Very competitive service cost - infact near to lowest if you follow service as per owner manual rather than leaving to dealer service advisor

Downside
> 2 star safety rated car, but as you referred almost maximum drive in city - with safety features on board and controlled speed drive, can negate this factor
> Power delivery is sufficient for city, but not for highway - this can too be ignored basis your requirement
> AMT inherent has some jerks - although this is best tuned AMT in hatchback segment, but still some kind of pause effect / jerk can definite be felt

Overall these are the 2 best choices recommended for need, requirement
So suggest to test drive and experience

For other cars as specificed
1. Tiago AMT / Tigor AMT : Basis engine noise, AMT response which is initially slow and Tata After sales - not the best choice
2. Aura : Its sedan version of Nios, only upside is bigger boot. But considering design, aweful interiors and price difference - not value over Nios
3. Figo, Freestyle : Only available in Manual Transmission, no Automatic as of now
4, Ecosport AT : Priced over 11 Lakh exshowroom
5. Swift: Although a decent choice, but basis in city requirement Nios AMT is better suited as against Swift AMT

So, recommended to experience in Amaze CVT and Nios AMT - theres price difference of more than 1.25 Lakh
Make a best choice as both are decent pick in there price segment and can offer a good experience.

Hope should help !!
