Hi sir

I am interested in purchasing a new car under sub 4 meter suv. This would be my first car and I am confused between Nexon Xm and Kia sonet htk+. My running would be basically 70% Highway and 30% city. I require car below 10lakh and must have good comfort and stability.
Kindly suggest on urgent basis. Below is the payment confirmation done via Paytm attached.

Dear Saket,

Greetings !!

As i understand you going to have major requirement usage in highway.
While Kia Sonet is a great all rounder in terms of
> Styling Element associated to it - possibly the most stylish Compact SUV in Segment
> Lifestyle Convenience Feature with Touchscreen with Android Auto, Auto Climate Climate Control, Camera, Rear AC along with useful safety of Projector Fog Lights, Defogger
> Low Maintenance Product in comparison, almost neck to neck to segment lowest scheduled maintenance car

Adding on good steering feedback, firm suspension for stability on highway. But 1.2 Litre Petrol Engine just feels average in performance considering other cars in segment offers better performance from engine per se

To make it easy for you - if you drive in sedate, relaxed way and maintain speed till 100 Kmph - you may not have much to complaints - engine NVH levels are superior too. But care for
> Slight Performance
> Sudden Overtake punch

Power levels seems just ordinary and leave lot to be desired
Adding on for a consumer who has maximum highway - is also important to understand that this car lacks advanced safety of ESP and somehow build quality may not be as great as Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon
See Nexon comes with core strength of
> 5 Star Build Quality
> ESP, Traction Control makes a difference in sudden emergency situation
> Sports Mode is lot more fun to drive, you can find performance reasonable impressive to overtake, fun to drive
> Better In Cabin Space with relative superior rear seat legroom space as against Kia Sonet

However,
> Sound insulation levels not the best, can feel wind & engine noise entering in cabin on higher speed
> Tata After sales service - well has questions to it
> XM Model lacks lifestyle features as otherwise in Kia Sonet, its a basic model but yes costs in Rs 60,000 lesser too in terms of On road price (after considering small dealer discounts in Nexon)

Common
Yes - both cars comes with body roll

Recommendation
See - been majority of usage going to be on highways - Tata Nexon XM to view definite score ahead basis fact that
> Car Engine Performance
> Car Safety Aspect with ESP, 5 Star Build Quality
> Rather Spacious cabin

comes in play. Can enjoy pep in Sports Mode
When cruising at 100 speed on highway to get mileage - switch on eco mode - which is ideal for that conditions with clear road for relaxed drive at that speed.

With Rs 60,000 difference can take in 4 year Gold AMC and can have 5 year warranty for peace of mind ownership too in Nexon to take care of after sales service aspect.

Although, yes Nexon is not as feature loaded - but trust when it comes to taking car on road - most important aspect is Performance, Safety and yes Space for comfort of passengers.

Hope should help !!

Sir
Thanks for the suggestion . I had small query that if we are driving Nexon on city mode it would provide same output as compared to sonet. Moreover what I have came to know that interior build quality of Nexon is not as good as sonet and as mentioned by u the insulation done in Nexon is also not so good , so it might not irritate us while driving.
If this are not going to be any I would prefer to go with Nexon.

Hi,

Nexon is Turbo Petrol Engine, while Sonet 1.2 is a Naturally aspirated Petrol Engine
Tata Motors tuned in performance in such a way that
> 100% Power and Torque - i.e. 120 PS Power and 170 NM Torque is all there in Sports Mode
> Car will run at 15% lesser performance in City Mode
> Further 15% lower performance in Eco Mode

Turbo Petrol engine do feel superior mid range when turbo spools in as against Naturally aspirated Petrol Engine
While Eco Mode on day to day usage basis is dull - its best only on highway to drive in rather relaxed way, Engine noise levels would be low.

City Mode performance feels delfinite much improved and now sufficient to day to day use in BS6 (earlier there were complaints with respect to under-powered feel in city mode, but with improved power along with fine tune up - City mode feels reasonably good in BS6)

I will say you will enjoy Nexon more in city mode as against Sonet 1.2 Petrol. However will still find noise levels to be higher in Nexon

Sports mode is complete fun but yes with higher noise levels too.
Lastly - important to note that Nexon is a 3 cylinder engine, while Sonet is a 4 cylinder engine.
Sonet definite feels lot more silent in Engine NVH as against Nexon

I suggest to test drive and experience car Nexon and take it for slight longer route and observe engine noise & wind noise.
To most of owners - after few hundred kms - they just get adjusted to same. Still, if you want you may at later stage go with 3M Acoustic Solution which may cost in Rs 6000 approx for Noise and Vibration dampening on doors.

Hope should help !!

Hi
As per your suggestion I took the test drive of nexon Xm and done the necessary observations.
I would also want to know that if I increase my budget little bit more then also I should prefer with nexon or sonet, Which model would be good.
Kindly suggest.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Saket,

If you flexible to increase budget then Sonet definite deserves attention in IMT Turbo
Not only more fun to drive in Turbo Petrol Engine but even adds on convenience factor too
Also, superior Engine NVH, Lower Maintenance adds a charm to it

But for same have to increase budget to tune of 1.2 Lakh higher
If not then Nexon is a great pick. i wont really recommend XZ as it cost almost a Lakh higher and looks slight overpriced as against XM basis feature differences,

Howver, as alternate pick: Maruti S Cross Sigma available at 8.39 Lakh is also worth a consideration
You can add on accessories to enhance the value proposition
> Spacious
> Stiff suspension which transform in superior highway handling
> Very reliable and trustworthy product

Only apprehension is lack of NCAP rating, as car build on heartect platform - where in most other cars designed on this heartect platform did not performed well in Global NCAP

But if considering Sonet - S Cross Sigma is worth a consideration,
