Hi team ,

I have purchased Honda city 5 th gen in 2020 and from apr 2021 after body paint from service center steering wheel getting hard and not able to turn left and right . Service centre people say they are unable to understand the issue.now they want replace my steering wheel with another car steering wheel and if it work then they will order new one and replace my car steering wheel. I don’t know what to do now.

Please help me with this.

Greetings !!

As there is this steering issue which happened and looks like even problem in turning left or right.

Been a new car - seems like could be attributed to
1. Loss of Power Steering Fluid: Hope service center checked same. Was it to max level ?
If not then this is a common reason where a leak happens and due to loss of Power Steering fluid - steering turns very hard

2. Power Steering Pump Issue : Been you finding it fair difficult to turn steering wheel to left or right - could be loss of pressure which happens to diw to a fault in power steering pum

I truely hope that service center has checked in both
a) Power Steering Fluid
b) Power Steering Pump

been there cant be any other reason. Only if its ruled out that cause of stiffness is not going to be due to above then yes last resort to a car which is not even a year end is to replace in
> either power steering or
> entire steering assembly including steering rack, power steering hoses and pump

So yes - Steering unit may have faulty valve which is not building in enough pressure and thus replacement of same is only option.
Dont worry - your car would be part of Manufacturer backed warranty and entire expenditure would be taken care in warranty only.

Hi team,
Thank you for your response.

I have received call from service center . They are unable to understand the issue.as per advise from Honda . Now they want to replace my steering wheel with some other car steering wheel if issues will resolve then they will replace new steering wheel on my car . May I allow them to check the issue in this way and any future problems may I have to face in future???

Kindly advise.

Hi,

Yes is perfectly fine, They are trying to identify route cause
If steering wheel is indeed the issue and possibly sorted by replaced spare wheel - they will then mark fault to stock steering wheel and replace with new steering wheel.

But suggest to get same tested in your presence rather than dealer workshop doing on own
I mean test drive post replacement should be in your presence and you should also observe same.

However if issue is not solved by same - then possibly you need to escalate to Honda Car India and insist that despite of co-operation
> Workshop unable to find fault check
and you seek entire steering assembly replaced (which includes steering wheel along with many other linked parts of steering wheel as steering rack, hoses, pump) in along with as a consumer wherein your confidence on Honda quality is impacted with a goodwill extension of warranty too

Hi team,

Service centre people has changed entire EPS system in my car with other car eps system which I have done test drive and that was working fine.
Now after replacing of that Eps also I’m not able to turn left and right . And issue has been not been resolved.

Please guide me how to proceed with my situation.

Ok, as despite of change in EPS - fault still there so looks like entire steering assembly including
> Steering rack
> Pump
> Power Steering hose needs to be replaced

Suggest to escalate by writing to Honda Cars India customer care

on showing ordeal with 5th Gen Honda city about steering issue and same not rectified till time despite of eps unit been changed.

Do ask them for entire steering assemby replacement and call in to question on reliability aspect.

Hi team,

This issue was escalated to Honda in apr 2021, by advise from Honda India they have replaced my entire steering system includes rock ,pump,hose (as per service center) with other car which is working fine but after replacing in my car issue has been not resolved .

Kindly help me what I have do in this situation.

Dear Rajesh ji,

As i understand that complete steering rack assembly was replaced and still the issue was not resolved

Do you have copy of job contract or pic where in
> Reported issue of Hard steering is stated
> Dealer workshop performed entire steering rack assembly replaced in your car

Also did you got any remarks in writing from them that problem is not resolved
Because if problem is not resolved with complete steering rack assembly been replaced then am sorry to say but looks like your car has a manufacturing defect. Option for you is to

a) Write in detailed email to Honda Cars India Management, Service Team stating that 5th Gen city was was bought less than a year old
> Since when you finding the issue
> number of visits made to service center till date
> Work performed by Honda workshop including complete steering rack assembly

and state that problem of hard steering is still there
Also enclose in job sheet copy if with you with a dealer confirmation that despite of steering assembly been replaced - stiff steering is still there. Ask them as you availed all hit and trial options including final one as specified by Honda Cars India for complete steering assembly replacement but issue remains in as there and thus presume that car has Manufacturing defect and seek refund of your money as paid for same.

Let see what they refer to you. If they again ask you to visit service center, do refer you can only visit if Honda Cars India Regional service engineers team is there, else no point. Make it a point that if any repair work is performed then it has to be only in front of Honda Cars India Regional service team

Kind note whatever visit you make - have copy of job sheet with you as evidence including problem and what all performed by Honda Service team with final remarks if issue resolved or not.

b) You may take legal recourse or some of the ways as specified when the car has manufacturing defect
