Greetings !!

Although your running is on low note but
> Considering space as an important factor for 2nd Row
> Budget of 20 Lakh and Automatic Transmission

If not in hurry and ready to wait for couple of months then wait for Mahindra XUV500 next generation due for launch and also to be introduced in Petrol Automatic in 6 Speed Torque Converter which can be worth a wait.

Else in present Option -
Tata Harrier XMA is the widest car in the segment and yes carries space which is relatively better than counterpart cars in the segment. 3 People can comfortably seat in with almost flat floor and carries good under-thigh support.
Only downside is that lack rear middle head restraint

Alternate Choice if ready to exceed budget to close to 22 Lakh zone is Hyundai Elantra Sx Petrol Automatic
Best part is almost flat floor type - very minimal hump in rear and yes car comes with Adjustable head restraints for all 3 rows
Been long wheelbase car is very Spacious, Comfortable and Elantra Sx Automatic comes with higher up lifestyle and convenience features
Only downside is thats seat are placed slight low - so ingress and egress is not the best as against what felt in SUV like Harrier

To view basis requirement specified
> If seek SUV - Tata Harrier XMA and yes comes in budget
> If sedan - Hyundai Elantra Sx Automatic and may have to exceed budget to close to 22 Lakh

Add on
Elantra is 2 Litre Naturally aspirated Petrol Engine, so car may not feel as quick as what Tata Harrier is and Harrier, but considering ride, handling and plush ride for comfort experience - Elantra has its own charm

Thus - if you have senior members of family (over 65 years) going to sit in rear seat then check out Harrier XMA, else Hyundai Elantra Sx Automatic is a great car to own and offers more comfort oriented ride.

Hope should help !!

Hi, Thanks for above explanation.
Harrier is a little too broad for my needs.
Also to add I like Creta but they have super long waiting period like 5 to 6 months so the option is out.
Kicks CVT - driving wise it was good but dont really know if its a good buy or not. What is your take on their CVT (if they have put jatco xtronic cvts then dont have a good reputation) with their Turbo. They have put more features in NA engine manual and forgotten to add those in their top most model. Eg. - 360 camera, leather dashboard, leather seat covers, Tyre Pressure and stuff. Yes these dont make big difference but...I dont know u tell me.
Compass - I love it but I feel 1.3 petrol engine is too less for car so heavy. and add to that automatic. Result - i think v low mileage

for me priority is lovely driving experience and maybe good engine that motivates you to drive as much distance as you want.

Pls help us MODI sir. Enlighten me or my wife will get very angry as I am delaying this since 2 months.

Hi Gaurav Sahab,

Greetings !!

As checked and assessed in need requirements where your inclination is towards SUV, see Compass is an excellent car and the way Jeep Compass drives with immaculate ride and handling experience - no other car comes close to same. It feels even better than Compass too

Only problem with Jeep Compass is
> Relative Limited rear seat legroom. Its not very spacious
> Also Rear center seat has hard back base with raised seat - its not at all comfortable to be on rear center seat so essentially Compass is 4 Seater one

Compass Buyers dont care about fuel efficiency. They buy for immaculate ride experience with top notch brakes, build, suspension and handling dynamics

For Kicks CVT and Duster CVT - although with CVT and Turbo in driving dynamics puts in a notch above Creta, Seltos too but somehow
> Future is very uncertain
> Reliability is in unknown zone
> Limited Rear Seat Legroom (feels compact as against Seltos, Creta)

I suggest to test drive Tata Harrier, although looks wider but is not at all difficult to drive in.
Still if you dont wish to go for then Kia Seltos Turbo GDI DCT is also there - but is best for 2 well stocked adults and 1 average build on center seat and yes Seltos too gets in 3 Adjustable head restraints.

With Stiff Suspension, Turbo GDI Petrol Engine expect decent high speed handling.
Yes there is waiting on Seltos top of line GTX Plus DCT - but if flexible with color choices - be assured that waiting wont be more than 2 months in major metro cities (as cancellations also happening) and fact that Hyundai Alcazar is coming with other upcoming SUV like Skoda Kushaq, XUV500 Next Gen in couple of months

Hope should help !!

I currently drive Swift Petrol 2010 model and I didnt do many road trips because I felt its very short on power and mumbai traffic used to sap me out. So my funda for next car is drive with passion tirelessly and with no headaches of future engine issus power issues.
And I want to try to do as many road trips for at least next 5 to 6 years (current age 38). :-)

Last few questions:
is DCT and Turbo engine a good idea?
DCT - since I heard about heating issues on Youtube. dry clutch issues without OIL bath (thanks to YT for KNowledge)
Turbo - maybe its shorter life than usual.
I drove MG HECTOR, Compass, Kicks, Seltos, Creta, XUV 500 (manual), XUV 300 (AMT) - is MG hector a good driving car? I didnt feel at all?

Hi,

Yes is a good idea, provided one modify in driving style to have peace of mind ownership. Like
> From overnight idle when starting first time in morning, idle for 30 seconds
> In bumper to bumper traffic, keep distance with car in front so as to avoid driving with half brakes
> Avoiding holding car on steep hills with slight accelerator. rather use brakes
> While at red light which is more than 60 seconds, Keeping engine on and continue pressing brakes is not good
> While coming at long distance high speed travel - ensure idling for 30 seconds before turning off car engine

and anyone who dont abuse car, is what Turbo + DCT a good experience.
Its like following the basics, and will ensure long lasting peace of mind ownership.

For more details, pls refer - DCT Ovcrheat Solution

Hector Petrol DCT Automatic to view do not provide as superior performance as what Seltos GDI Petrol Engine provides.
If you seek Automatic one and find Harrier too large for need, Kia Seltos GTX Plus DCT is a great choice in Urban SUV and yes with
> Stiff suspension
> High Speed Handling
the driving character of this car feels moe SUV'ish as against Creta.

Hope should help !!

Hi

There is nothing in DCT to worry about provided some steps as already explained earlier to modify in driving style is taken

Else, if you seek to play safe with
> Conventional 6 Speed Torque Converter
> Reliable
> Spacious

pls see to exceed budget to 26 Lakh On Road Zone towards Hyundai Tucson Petrol Automatic as full size Mid SUV

Else, if thats too much to exceed with then no other option except to wait for Hyundai Creta Sx Option IVT Automatic by placing booking
Although this SUV is no fun to drive in but rather is what designed for convenience aspect but for
> Bumper to Bumper traffic
> Fuel Efficient
> Reliable
> Cost of Ownership
and seamless response of IVT which is meant for smooth driving experience.

Hope should help !!

Thank you Gaganji
So in that case if i were to go for bigger cars like HARRIER, MY choices were -
1. Xuv 500
2. Innova
3. Harrier

Which one is the best for long term use (7 yrs atleast or longer) fun to drive or easier to drive.

Hi,

Although Mahindra XUV50
> Automatic Transmission is what signature element of the car
> Very Spacious on 2nd row, and with 3rd row folded can have good boot space

But also is that
> Wind Noise levels are on higher side
> Next Generation is almost due and car feels dated in present context

If ready to wait and basis budget perspective next gen would be worth a wait, else in present choice - Harrier with
> More Powerful Engine
> Hyundai sourced automatic
> Engine NVH Levels
> Driving Dynamics

feels better than XUV500

Toyota Innova is in a separate league and is a MPV rather than SUV. If you seek utmost comfort with
> captain row seats on 2nd row
> Dont mind on relative higher weight hydraulic steering
> seek a MPV as people carrier with space, seating comfort and best in class reliability then can consider in Innova crysta

But price difference is significant too. With Innova Gx Diesel you will miss on advanced features as whats in Harrier and yes if you seek fully loaded features then may have to exceed budget by almost 5 Lakh on road over Harrier by considering Innova Crysta Zx Diesel

Hope should help !!

:)Drove HARRIER automatic not at all a great car to drive. Has power only in sports mode, in comfort mode/city mode just too slow. Lot of engine noise, just too much. Back seat tumbling effect to passengers is beyond imagination.
Over all its not a great to posses.
Will go for something else. Thank you
