Hello Team,

With 2021 Jeep Compass has been launched, I am confused between Harrier & compass.

Can you suggest which one to go for based on driving dynamics, aftersales services and service cost??

Thanks

Dear Abhishek ji,

Greetings !!

As i understand that you seeking a
> Sturdy
> Safe car

with maximum usage within city and seek reliability and cost of ownership as important parameter
Well although Harrier is an excellent choice as initially referred but key USP is in highway. When you ask me for maximum city use Relative Heavier Steering in Tata Harrier is slight a let down

On other hand
> Compass comes with relative light steering in city and ease to manoeuvre in city
> Very Ease to drive and do not feel as large as Harrier

However, please remember Compass Petrol Automatic do not feel as responsive as otherwise experience in Diesel one.
But if maximum usage in city - dont think it would make a difference

Running Cost
If you drive both cars back to back - Harrier wins an edge and secondly driving such a bulky SUV in Petrol can make running cost relative on higher basis. May expect running cost going around Rs 10/ Km in Petrol, as against scenario where running cost would be around Rs 7 per Km in Diesel. So, basis average running may entail good amount of outflow to tune of Rs 3500 a month - making Rs 40,000 a year.

Also Diesel one is more fun.
So making maths simple a Diesel one is better suited for requirement from financial perspective

Net All
> If you seek maximum city use, and budget not a consideration my first bet would be on Hyundai Tucson GL Automatic.
Best suited for relaxed drive, spacious and Hyundai signature product
Very reliable and from cost of ownership wont be disappointed.
If you decide for same - will soon service aspect

> 2nd Best pick (if seek to have higher preference on convenience aspect rather than financial aspect) - Compass Longitude Option Petrol Automatic

Else, if you seek to have running cost as key criteria and slight heavier steering is not a downpoint then may consider Harrier Automatic
Suggest to have test drive, once you finalize one will share on details of service cost aspect

Hope should help !!

Greetings !!

See if you purely ask me from
> Driving Dynamics
> Suspension Capabilities
> Ride and Handling feel

then to our view Jeep Compass is what a benchmark in Mid SUV Segment as a notch ahead against
> MG Hector
> Tata Harrier
> Mahindra XUV500

and possibly 2 notch above
> Hyundai Creta
> Kia Seltos

and even better than Hyundai Tucson

Compass biggest strength is the capability of the car in terms of drive and handling response which is like awesome.
As product per se - Compass fit and finish feels marginally better as against Harrier. In similar way although Harrier Sound Clarity is good, but Average Infotainment in resolution and responsiveness

So - if you ask me solely from Product Perspective to view Jeep Compass is a better product,

However, not every one buys car with sole DNA of driving dynamics as other factors comes in picture which is like
> Pricing
> Space
> Reliability
> After Sales Servuce

and the price point at which Compass Base Sport Diesel is what available, one can infact have Tata Harrier XZA Automatic or top of line XZ Plus Model after discounts with
> Much More space
> Fully Loaded Features
> Harrier XZA with sheer convenience and brilliant 6 speed automatic transmission
> Possibly to our view looks more stylish
> In Manual Transmission - one can have SUnroof

and the fact that Harrier driving dynamics in itself are reasonable good. If not compass like, still on stand alone basis are very impressive and one can anytime have XZA Automatic which transform this machine with utmost convenience making Harrier a superior value.

In terms of After Sales Service cost: Although scheduled service cost is not much different, but expect Harrier after sales service to be marginally lower against Compass
Refer
> Compass Service Cost
> Harrier Service Cost

Both these products do not offer the best of reliability, and have some minor niggles been reported by users
So from reliability perspecive - expect both products to perform average on front.

But if flexible then recommended to check out
> 5 Year Warranty Pack / Unlimited Kms at around Rs 26000 (Manual Transmission) / Rs 30,000 for Automatic Transmission

> Tata Harrier Gold AMC for 5 Year will cost in Rs 1.5 Lakh includes almost everything Scheduled Service Cost (replacement of all Oil, Fluids, Filter, Alignment, Balancing (excluding weight) including Labor Charges for all scheduled replacement, Wear and Tear Parts (includes Brake Pads, Clutch, Suspension). Excludes only Tyre, Wiper Blade, Battery, AC Refrigerant

This will ential superior cost of ownership experience with your car almost like throughly been covered.
So - although Compass is a superior product, but from Price Perspective and overall value proposition to view Tata Harrier XZA Automatic is an excellent pick and offers superior value proposition,

Hope should help !!

Thanks for the detailed response.?
However, I forgot to include:
1) the way I would use the vehicle my more time would be in city than highway on an average basis. So, based on usability should you still recommend Diesel or Petrol variant?
2) What about spare parts costs in both Compass and Harrier?
3) Service of both brand in case of car breaking down on highways or in some remote places?

Please do suggest on these points.

Thanks
