Hello Team,
I am currently owning a Santro and its time for FC as its reaching 15 yrs this March. I am planning to change my car.

My requirements:
1. Space: 5 adults + 1 kid should sit comfortably
2. Safe car
3. Brand with Good service and less maintenance.
4. Automatic
5. 50% city and 50% highway maybe( 5% on bad road). Not regular use. Maybe 7-8K KM per yr.
6. Easy driving in city

I shortlisted i20 Asta (o) DCT 14 Lacs and Nexon XZA+(S).
Can't do Ecosport, Venue, Sonet as we couldn't fit 3 comfortably in back seat.

My questions:
1. Please suggest car meeting above requirements. I found NExon most comfortable but i20 was good, but please suggest best car
2. Or Should i wait for any new launch?

Looking forward.
Thanks in Advance

Hi Pranesh,

Greetings !!

As i understand that you will almost have 50% drive on highway - well although on face of it Hyundai I20 looks perfect with

I20 Asta Option DCT
> Turbo Charged Petrol Engine
> 6 Airbags, ESP, Traction
> Wider Tyres for ensuring better grip, stability
> Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
> Space with almost as the most spacious hatchback
> Fuel Efficient, Reliable, Low Maintenance
> Yes is car stylish too and a definite head turner

However, But the biggest con is that Steering Feedback - which just makes handling, steering dynamics felt average
Although to disclaim - steering feedback feels better than outgoing I20 new gen - but somehow still misses the feel and feeback

Secondly - although dream safety features are what loaded in but all new gen I20 yet to be crash tested by Euro or Global NCAP

Tata Nexon XZA Plus AMT
Now when you speak of Nexon AMT - the car is a perfect example of how Tata Motors do enhancement in car range over period of time
AMT is much improved now as against scenario when it was 2 years back. Power Delivery is much better
Jerks are much better controlled in BS6 as against what it used to feel in when car was launched

Having said same
> 5 STar Build Quality
> Yes Nexon too comes with ESP, Traction control too
> Impressive High speed handling dynamics when compared against I20

But Nexon issue is
> Relative Higher Noise levels on higher speed
> Not the best on day to day city usage. somehow visibility not great
> Tata After Sales Service is still a question
> Even though AMT is much improved, but DCT is much more quicker and any given day DCT as transmission is more advanced against AMT

So what to choose in between Nexon and I20
Suggest to experience Hyundai I20 DCT on a rather high speed / long drive

Although handling aspect and steering feedback is not great - but for masses - they are just okay with same
If you do not find much play in steering and is not felt bothersome by it then to view I20 Asta Option DCT can be your next buy. Considering higher number of active and passive safety features - will still take a bet on I20 to be yes a better buy for need requirement.

Hope should help

Hi,

If flexible to increase budget to close to 15 Lakh then explore Honda City V CVT Automatic
An excellent choice basis
> Space factor as what you seek out for
> Suspension is tuned for comfort oriented ride - lot different to what felt in I20 and Nexon and will love in Plush ride, comfort
> Yes a slight body roll is there but if you are not someone who push car to corners in enthusiastic way then City is impressive on high speed too
> Available with ABS EBD with Brake Assist, 4 Airbags, TPMS Sensor, Vehicle Stability Assist, Hill Start Assist
> 5th Gen Honda City Service schedule revamped to once a year as against 4th Gen city which was having every 6 months
> Also available with Paddle Shifters which can be used for slight fun experiebce through 7 speed sequential shift by slotting gear in sports mode

Wider, Longer, Stylish, Spacious - will love Honda City
Hope should help !!

Honda City Length - 4549 mm is too long. I prefer a sub 4 M for easier parking in Bangalore city which doesn't have wide roads.

Hi Parvesh ji,

Although as industry specific base yes in mm terms Honda city is good 550 mm longer than Hyundai I20 and Tata Nexon

But if you put in realistic real world parameters is just 21.5 Inches longer essentially means less than 2 feet longer (in Width and Height dimensions of Honda City is not as wide/tall as Nexon or I20)

But the immediate gain is best in class rear seat comfort
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/easyblog_articles/1099/b2ap3_thumbnail_Honda-city-RearSpace.jpg

When you will experience car on day to day basis - it actually is as easy to park and drive in Honda city as what I20 is
Yes turning radius is at 5.3 Meter as against I20 is with 5 Meter - where in .3 meter is too insignifiant difference is too

Still - rest is your call
If not Honda City V CVT then as already referred Hyundai I20 feels the most spacious among lot among hatchback
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/easyblog_articles/1145/b2ap3_thumbnail_I20-Space.jpg

Although yes has slight floor intrusion on rear center due to rear ac vents
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/I20-legroom.jpg

But I20 is a decent pick.
Honda Jazz althougfh as alternate is a choice but fixed headrest on rear seat makes it feel uncomfortable for having anyone with good height on rear seat.

Hope should help !!

I want to clarify on TATA after sales which is an important factor for me. Tata has been 2nd in JD Power surveys for 2018&19 any reason for calling this out as a con.

Reason I ask is because my current Hyundai Santro consistently scraps the bottom on big speed breakers and pot holes when seating 5 members. I am not sure if i20 suspension is better.

Hi Pranesh,

Although JD Power is a repute but would like to reserve my comments for JD Power which states
> Toyota CSI score below Tata & Mahindra
> Honda and Maruti featuring in bottom 3
> Tata and Mahindra featuring in top 3

A sample of mere 7000 customers which do not form even .25% of cars sold in a year is not an indication of reality of Passenger Car market having almost 3 Million Customers a year

What i have shared is that although Nexon is a great product which
> is much improrvised in BS6
> AMT Actuator response is lot better
> Safety Specs, Build Qualiy
> High Speed Handling

but
> after sales yet a question
> Engine Noise levels on higher speed
> Limited Visibility especially on corner

By Stating after sales a question - it indicates an opinion after checking out several feedbacks from various owners in different platforms where i have formed an opinion that Tata needs a lot of enhancements, improvisations in after sales to get customer delight.

Sample example of Tata Premium range product
> Tata Problem 1
> Tata Problem 2
> Tata Problem 3

and several feedback on social media

Having said same, am not discouraging you for Nexon
Its a great product and now in 2021 feels lot better in 3+ years where AMT response, power delivery, safety features are much better and yes would be worth a consideration

If you seek a raise ground clearance Automatic Car for 5 people with Excellent Safety then Nexon AMT turns out to be default choice as yes
Hope should help !!

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanations. After weighing all points I am planning to go with Hyundai i20 Asta O DCT .

>Please suggest what colors I can consider .
>What are some mandatory accessories I should get . (I plan to get a dashcam)
>Is it useful to add a front parking sensor? I am also curious that while many cars have 4 rear parking sensors i20 has only 2.
> Please suggest some insurance option which is hassle free and covers road side assistance .

Great

For Colors
See as you buying top end and considering Dual Tone color option available with
> Red Stitching
> Red Inserts

with Painted Black ORVM and Contrast roof wrap which makes car look sporty can be your choice from styling perspective
Although Contrast roof wrap leads to slight more heat, but car AC is chiller

In case you seek single color tone option pls refer - Car Color Impact

Accessories
As its a top end, fairly equipped model with all modern age essentials
yes can go for DashCam

Parking Sensor
Although can be added in after-market but still only for those who are very novice or cars having long bonnet design may be require in
For a Sub 4 Meter Hatch - to view not required. Its fairly easy to park in

Insurance
Can check out any reputed brand like Bajaj Allianz / ICICI Lombard / HDFC Ergo which offers RSA too
Hope should help !!

Is this worthy buy?

Hi Pranesh ji,

Regret delay, somehow internet services were limited in delhi / ncr zone for over 20 hours due to recent protest by some farmers
In terms of Hyundai I20 - Congratulations
Shield of Trust includes wear & tear parts like
> Brakes
> Clutch
> Wiper
> Some Suspension component

which otherwise are not part of warranty as they are wear & tear items
Been your model is I20 DCT which comes with dual clutch transmission and is top of line and fact that Shield of Trust covers wear & tear parts @ just 1% of the car on road price in your case. To view would be worth considering going ahead for same.

Just go ahead with 5 year / 60,000 KMs one.
Hope should help !!

Thanks for all the advise, just took delivery of i20 Asta O DCT. While car is good, the sales guys didn't have much knowledge on the features, so demo was below average.

Have a few questions.
1) I am new to automatic. While at signal should i switch to N(Neutral) or P (Parking) or can i just leave it at D(Drive) with hand brake?
2) Can i connect 2 Bluetooth devices actively in this model?
3) is there any official video demo from Hyundai on all the features?

Hi,

Automatic
For Automatic, pls refer this video explaining details. Am sure will find useful

Bluetooth
Although can pair multiple bluetooth device, but at one time - only 1 bluetooth device can be paired.

Demo
Unfortunately no demo
Suggest to send a mail to dealer showroom and Hyundai too where in can place a request to provide clear demo from trained personnel
Am sure - Dealer Showroom personnel will allocate some trained personnel to again provide demo of car

Hope should help !!
