Dear Gagan ji,

I am from Chennai and at present I am using Swift diesel for the past 8 years. Now I want to select a new car for me with automatic transmission. My priorities are Safety, Ride comfort and space and reliability. The ride quality to manage the city bad roads and Potholes is also important. My budget is max 11 lakhs ex showroom. My monthly usage will be 1000 to 1200 Kms.(50% city & 50% highway)Want to use it for occasional trips to my native which is 700 kms away. My height is 6 feet. I want to have this car for next 7-8 years.
Cars considered - Nexon XZA+, S cross Zeta automatic, Yaris J CVT, Breeza ZXI automatic, Jazz VX CVT

Nexon XZA+ - Space adequate, AMT is good, Ride also ok.. Not sure about the reliability of the Tata turbo petrol engine, AMT reliability (as the car for TD had some fault mid way when they came for TD itself and i had done TD with another dealer) and interior materials durability.

Scross Zeta automatic - Liked the Space and seat comfort, 4 speed Automatic is ok for city, Ride is also good. Need to know the if the build quality is trustworthy of 4 star, (hearing the build is solid, but heartect platform?) , weather the 4 speed automatic is ok for highway ride at 100 km speeds, will the 4 speed automatic will be able to manage with full load if we go hill stations on inclines(occasional only)

Yaris - Like the toyota brand trustworthiness, but didn't felt comfortable for my height in back seat.

Jazz - Liked the space inside and build, lack of adjustable headrest at back seat, no hill hold assist a big let down

Breeza - Couldn't do test drive. Didn't liked the interior as I felt it same like swift and back seat space also felt lesser than Nexon.

1) Please suggest the right car for my requirements basis automatic, safety, ride comfort, space and reliability.

2) Please let me know if I have missed out any other better options to check out or should I wait for any new launch in near future?

3) I prefer higher ground clearance to manage some bad city roads. Please let me know weather the driving position of sedan/hatcback or SUV/Crossover better to manage without back pain for long drives?

Kindly help in understanding and making the right decision!!

Thanks & Regards,

Greetings !!

Considering requirement wherein 50% Usage is on highway which is what considerable usage, recommended to opt for cars which come with
> Good Steering Feedback on HIgher Speed
> Slight Stiffer suspension which controls body roll with superior high speed dynamics
> ESP which makes a differentiation on safety on emergency braking on high speed to control
> Build Quality for providing safety aspect

Now of the given cars as referred
> Brezza : As referred you not happy with car interior, plastic quality and adding on car high speed handling feels average as against other cars and even its sibling S Cross too. So avoid this car

> S Cross: Although build is impressive, high speed handling dynamics is pretty decent too. Spacious, Ride Comfort is better. The only issue is that Maruti unable to prove so far in heartect platform. Ertiga scored mere 3 stars and S cross although having best build across Maruti Suzuki Car range is not what crash tested on this heartect platform. Had there been crash test rating available - S cross could have emerged a great choice. Yes, no ESP in S Cross too which again is a matter of slight concern.

> Jazz - an excellent choice, sturdy build, suspension is great too with decent spacious cabin but 1.2 Litre Engine do not feel like doing justice with the car. Rear seat headrest are almost unusable and surprisingly Honda cars India still lagging behind in advanced safety - no ESP

> Toyota Yaris - A great choice but okay to ignore if do not find seating comfortable

> Ecosport - An excellent all rounder contender in build, high speed dynamics, advanced safety features, reliable but as space is an important consideration - somehow yes reat seat comfort is what limited and yes Mileage is slight a down point

Best Buy for need
> Tata Nexon : Yes, AMT is much improvised in BS6. Jerks are much controlled. Superior Power Delivery in Sports Mode. Spacious. High Speed Handling is Better. Advanced Safety of ESP, Build is great too. Nexon is now a good 3.5 year old product and continually been improved.

See, to view Tata Motors yes is not known for best in class after sales service experience as what seen in Maruti, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota but thanks to continual product enhancements, optimizing engine performance - Nexon XZA Plus is a great choice

Having said same - although you have referred all cars in Petrol but Mahindra XUV300 W6 Diesel AMT turns out what a great choice for need with strong reasons too which need your consideration
> AMT in XUV300 is now the best responsive AMT which has experienced so far. Feels better than Nexon
> Spacious, longest wheelbase 2600 mm and yes Wider too
> Lower Running Cost and W6 Diesel AMT is attractively priced @ 10.2 Lakh
> Lot more Power @ 300 NM, Convenient, Proven Car in Safety too
> Mahindra XUV300 Diesel performs fairly well in terms of lower running cost too. Engine Oil need replacement @ 20,000 Kms as per Owner manual. Scheduled service cost are very competitive, check out XUV300 Service Cost - can be pleasanty surprised

Yes - Mahindra too is not benchmark in after sales, but most of XUV300 Owners are happy. There was slight noise levels earlier in XUV300 when driven on bad roads which seems well resolved too.

Basis your average yearly usage of 12000 to 15000 Kms a Year - recommended pick to view would be
> Mahindra XUV300 W6 Diesel AMT in value proposition as this car offers
if not then Nexon XZA Plus AMT as second choice

Hope should help !!

Dear Gagan ji,
Thanks for the reply. In case of Nexon amt, is there any change in performance of diesel amt vs petrol amt in bs6? In BS4 diesel amt was better than petrol amt.

Also kindly suggest if diesel xma + touchscreen additional or petrol xza+, which is better value for money? Can we add adjustable rear head rest for rear seat in aftermarket?

Hi

Diesel AMT is close similar to what was observed in BS4 with minor enhancement but yes BS6 Petrol AMT is significantly better than what it was in 2019. Infact, there should not be any reason other than Fuel Efficiency for opting Nexon BS6 Diesel AMT other than Petrol.

Considering the enhancements - Nexon BS6 Petrol AMT can be a good choice. Have a test drive.
If its Nexon will pick Nexon XZA Plus Petrol AMT as against XMA Diesel AMT

However, if you make up mind for Diesel one then XUV300 W6 AMT to view is possibly a better pick over Nexon Diesel AMT

Hope should help !!

Dear Gagan ji,
Not considering xuv300 as the boot space is very less for family trip.
1) Can you compare the ride quality of
Nexon, Scross & Yaris in handling city bad roads as I have to cross some bad roads on my daily drive from home?
2) Kindly share the comparison of the Scross 4 speed TC automatic with Nexon 6 speed amt in city, highway & hilly terrains..
3) In case of 75% of city usage, will you still recommend Nexon AMT as the better option?

Kindly share your suggestion

Regards,
Bhuvanesh.V.S.

Hi,

S Cross
Scross comes with Stiffer Suspension or rather say Mature Suspension set up for both city and highway, handling Dynamics are impressive on higher speed.
With your drive spread equally on city and highway - S Cross from drive and handling per se is good
Spacious, Recline rear seat in Zeta and alpha makes it a perfect seating position
Refer an owner review on S Cross Automatic

A great choice, had safety rating would have had available - could have emerged as top pick too

Nexon
Now AMT in BS6 Setup is much better as what used to be 2 years back with improved power delivery
However, for city usage
> Visibility not that great
> Higher Engine Noise levels
> Impressive high speed dynamics

But if you compare in S Cross ride and handling in city against Nexon AMT
then S Cross feels a better bet in city use.Nexon feels slight bumpy on city roads.especially on XZA+

Toyota Yaris
Mid Sedan with highest ground clearance at almost 175mm in unladen condition
But if you dint felt comfortable then best to ignore

In case of 75% of city usage, will you still recommend Nexon AMT as the better option?
See Tata Nexon is definite
> much improved product in BS6 set up
> Also ESP, Traction Control makes a difference in emergency situation
> High Speed Handling and capabilities are impressive
> Proven with 5 Star Safety Rating

Thats what the key DNA. If you seek no compromise on
> Safety
> Build
> High Speed Dynamics
and possibly a more Stylish Car then Nexon AMT is a great choice

But if seek
> Majorly City Use
> Seek Best in class space, reliability
and not too much on to build & safety part yet would like to give assurance to yourself that S cross is the premium most offering from Maruti Suzuki and build quality would not be compromised despite of same heartect platform then S cross Zeta Automatic or Alpha Automatic can be best pick in Petrol Cars for need, requirement for yourself.

Hope should help !!

DCT is planned and would be what introduced in Altroz and Nexon

Tata as of now is slight unpredictable in 2021 due to too many launches planned
> Altroz Turbo launched in January
> Safari to be introduced
> Timero / Hornbill
> Altroz EV
> DCT also be introduced in Altroz, Nexon
> Working on Future Models including Blackbird, Tata MPV

For Accesories - let you decide on model first, then can discuss on same.

Dear Gagan ji,
Have finalised to buy Nexon XZA+. Need your guidance on the following,

1) Accessories - Which accessories do you suggest to buy as this is top variant? Which of them you suggest to
buy from showroom and aftermarket? I need suggestion on useful accessories only like IRVM
2) In case of insurance, which are all factors need to be covered, as I prefer to get insurance myself online, as showroom is
quoting higher amount of 45k.
3) What's your suggestion on extended warranty and AMC for Tata nexon? Is it worth taking?
4) Finally, in your previous answer, it's mentioned that Nexon city drive will be slight bumpy and especially for XZA+
May I know why is it higher for XZA+ variant?

Your feedback on the above points will be very helpful

Hi,

Pls find

Point 1 - Its a top end fully loaded model, not much required, still suggest to check out Useful Car Accessories

Point 2 - You can take Car Insurance through us. We have partenerd with HDFC Ergo for seamless experience
Refer Insurance FAQ

Point 3 - Avoid AMC, choose Extended Warranty
Also, if usage less than 400 Kms a month then may even skip Extended warranty altogether too

Point 4 - Due to difference in tyre profile, while XMA comes with R16 195/60 which we drove and felt better as against XZA+ available with R16 215/60 seems too much for this car makingr ride slight bouncier

Hope should help !!

Hello Gagan Sir,

Do you think if Ecosport 2021 is still worth the buy in 2021 as against Nexon 2020 and Sonet? There are new changes done to ecosport in Jan 2021 but due to it's old design and much of interiors, will it be a good recommendation for someone who's looking to keep the car for next 7-8 years?

Dear Gaganji,
I have booked Nexon xza+ in January & the car is yet to be delivered & I am thinking of cancelling the booking and booking thr car next year after the covid impact is over.

Kindly let me know if we can expect any new car launch based on my requirements?
Automatic, safe, space, good ride quality & reliable under 12 lakhs on road..
Can we consider any of the cars from Maruthi, Honda, Toyota or Hyundai since these companies are more reliable?
Kindly help in clearing the confusions

Dear Bhuvanesh,

Many Cars to be launched in next 12 months in defined budget including
> Maruti Brezza Next Gen
> Ford Ecosport Next Gen
> Hyundai Venue Facelift
> Mahindra XUV300 Facelift

Also, if slight flexible on budget may keep an eye towards Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun
However - time frame of launch may significant vary basis COVID response. Lets see how things do in near future.
