Greetings !!

Petrol or Diesel
As i understand that your
> Average Monthly Running : 70 Kms a month = 840 Kms a year
> Thane to Goa (to and fro) 2 times a year = 2500 Kms a year

and may some other use - so average yearly usage would still be under 4000 Kms a year.

Should look for a Petrol Car. Diesel cars has higher upkeep ownership cost in terms of
> Later Year Insurance Premium tend to be higher vis a vis Petrol one
> Battery, Clutch Plate assembly cost higher
> Scheduled Service Cost also tend to cost higher

Recommended to opt for Petrol

Ecosport Facelift & Should you consider Ecosport
See Ford Ecosport is now a good 8 year old Product in India and the next big change would be next generation Ecosport which is not set for launch in 2021 but in 2022. (no indication as of now in early 2022 or later as too early to comment)

Existing Ecosport may witness some marginal changes may be once in terms of minor styling tweaks or some feature reshufflement depending on how well is Ford India on plans of next gen Ecosport to launch in Indian Market

Having said same existing Ecosport is slight compact on rear seat legroom and shoulder room
So if rear seat passengers
> are of average build
> are of average height

https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/easyblog_articles/1070/b2ap3_thumbnail_Ecosport-Legroom.jpg

then Ecosport is okay for 3 adults on rear, else may not be best fit somehow.
Having said same - recline angle is good for long distance travel. Ingres and Egress is fair ease.

VW Taigun
Lot of excitement for VW Taigun which is due for launch in 2021 Summers (around May - June 2021)
Its a full fledged Mid SUV at 4.3 Meter. We checked a prototype car during Media Event just before Auto Expo.
Rear seat legroom although not to the levels as what seen in New Creta or Seltos but certainly better than sub 4 meter SUV like Ecosport, Sonet as what available
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/easyblog_articles/991/b2ap3_medium_VW-Taigun-Side.jpg

Expectedly Taigun would be introduced in 1 Litre TSI Petrol Engine as what used in Rapid, Vento with 110 PS Power and 175 NM Torque
Also, during an interaction with VW Officials - they were confident that they will price car very competitively and basis
> VW Handling
> Build
> Suspension
> Stying
> Features List

car can just hit the sweet spot.
Even they going to localize car with 90%+ localization ensuring spare parts are just reasonable priced.

So point is if your family finds Ecosport rear seat slight compact - would be worth a consideration to wait for VW Taigun

Tata Nexon
Nexon yes is definite spacious against Ecosport and comes with
> ESP
> Traction Contron
> 5 Star Build

with good highway dynamics and yes car is spacious too. However
> Rear has floor tunnel and somehow rear middle seat not as comfy. To view this car best with 4 adults
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/easyblog_articles/1074/b2ap3_medium_Tata-Nexon-Legroom.jpg
> Engine Noise levels are higher
> Tata still not benchmark in reliability, after sales
> Although on Standalone basis Ingress and Egress is Okay but not as breeze as what observed when compared against competition Ecosport, Brezza, Venue. Due to sloping roof and slight raised seat - Taller Passenger may not be at best of ease especially on rear seats ingress as compared to competition cars.

Recommendation
Suggest to experience by sitting in Ford Ecosport and see if rear seat is comfy in Ecosport.
If yes then
> Ecosport Sports Variant with best in class active and passive safety features, signature sync3 touchscreen and proven reliability, build with almost best in class handling on highway can be your choice

else if rear seat comfort is a deal breaker then wait for upcoming VW Taigun.
Hope should help !!
