Dear sir
I am your old youtube follower and likes your unbiased reviews.
Sir i used to drive a Honda JAZZ CVT, but in Aug-20 due to a tree, my Honda Jazz was completely damaged and was declared in Total Loss case.
Sir now I want to buy a new SUV (automatic only) and am a bit confused in Tata Nexon XZA+(petrol) (AMT variant still not finalised) and Duster RXZ CVT 1.3 Turbo.
Our inclination is towards Duster but is it worthwhile to stretch our budget for more than 3lakhs and plus in future perspective also like maintenance etc..
Please help me sir to make a better choice, my present running is very less but i am in transferable job so may be mine running will increase in near future.

Thank You
Regards

Greetings !!

Although on face of it Renault Duster 2020 looks like a powerhouse with 154 PS Power and 250 NM Torque
But when it comes to real world - lot of differences comes in and with CVT Automatic

However, first comes first - theres absolute no comparison when you think of Nexon AMT and Duster CVT
> Duster CVT feels lot more refine with smooth CVT Gear ratio makes ride buttery smooth as against jerk feel in AMT
> You got lot superior power delivery and mid range is awesome
> Ride Quality feels more plush with superior handling too
> However, no sudden of surge of Power - it doesnt feel like that powerful engine.

Duster CVT just beats Nexon AMT whether you speak of
> Gear Shift change response. Actually Duster CVT feels more refined
> Mid range is awesome and peppy if you go strong on throttle
> Like Nexon gets Manual Mode but is more fun to drive
> Turbo Lag is relative lesser felt in CVT as its masked by CVT Transmission
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/images/newcar/Renault-Duster-Turbo.jpg

Duster CVT Feels more towards to meet in all kind of family member
1. For some one who seek relaxed drive will love in
2. For an enthusiast slot gear in Manual Mode and enjoy lot more fun to deliver experience
3. Car drives well on both city roads and even perform much better on bad road conditions

and when you bring in Duster RXZ AMT in picture
> Sporty Front Looks with Red Accent theme
> Bigger Car and Stylish Car is another feel which will get in

Downside with respect to Duster CVT
> Interior theme Aesthetics
> Ergonomics
> Renault after sales

which are what the down point with the car. Else is a fantastic choice and any given day is lot more superior over Nexon AMT

Now Point is whether is worth spending in Rs 3 Lakh over Nexon AMT
See when you spend in considerable sum like Rs 12 Lakh and is flexible on budget with potential to take it to 15 Lakh levels then by spending 25% higher you get a
> Lot Superior Transmission
> Lot Superior Power Delivery

which is what the key highlight of Renault Duster CVT.
I can say that if you will enjoy Nexon AMT in terms of drive experience as 6 out of 10, then will enjoy Duster as 8.5 out of 10 and thats the key difference.

Hope should help !!

Thank you for the reply sir.
Sir can you give some idea about Duster CVT 1.3 Turbo annual maintenance cost as i have heard that its service cost and parts are costly, moreover i have also heard that this new turbo petrol engine may require more maintenance than 1.5L natural aspirated engine relative to Tata Nexon AMT (Petrol).

thank you

Dear Neet,

Sorry but thats a dark area as of now.

Tried best but somehow till now no success on Duster Turbo Maintenance aspect
Although we covered by extracting Duster in BS4 Diesel service cost and spare parts - Renault Duster Service Cost

But, details not available till yet of Duster Turbo Petrol about Scheduled service cost and running repairs
I suggest to make a check from Renault India as prospective customer and seek details on it or Renault showroom on expected scheduled service cost including maintenance chart.

Hope should help

Hello Neet,

See Duster CVT was launched in August end
Manufacturer only offering in Corporate Discount scheme ranging from Rs 10K to Rs 30K. Except that no other offers

But, from given price list
a) Dealer charging Insurance premium at Rack rates. if you go online can save in to extent of Rs 30,000 on to it

b) Documentation charge as what claimed by dealer is Rs 15,000 / Same amount in Delhi is Rs 10,000 and called Logistics - whatever, many post covered on same and if customer takes a stannd can definite gets in waived off

c) Registration amount - cant checked as city not referred, pls confirm city will get it checked

d) Dealer Discounts - been car is a recent launched one hence dealer showroom offering no scheme and llimited dealer end offers may be offered basis negotiation and thats marginal in range of rs 10K to 15K.

Overall - from deal offer perspective if can give couple of months to it, possibly by December 2020 Mid - am sure can strike a reasonable impressive deal.

Hi Neet,

If working with top notch MNC get priced reduced further, as corporate discount ranges from rs 10,000 to rs 30,000. Else, is a fair price basis present offers as on date

Also, before booking pls see to take in writing
1. Insurance comprises of zero depreciation with engine protection & key protection
2. Price includes accessories pack

Also, if going in with private players choose in from ICICI Lombard, Bajaj Allianz, HDFC Ergo . Have them referred same in Insurance plan.

Thanks sir. The final dealer quotation is 15.75 Lacs with RTI (Return to Invoice). Sir just wanted to know that is it beneficial to buy extended warranty for 4th & 5 th year at the time of purchase or extended warranty can be purchased later after 1-1.5 year. Which is more beneficial to the customer?

Hi Neet,

Renault India offers 5 Year / 1 Lakh Kms warranty on Duster which cost Rs 21,638 (available within first 3 month of car sale). However, if same bought at later stage say during 2nd Year will cost around 20% higher at Rs 27000 (basis present price).

Although can consider purchase during end of 2nd Year too and some companies offer discount too at time of renewal and Considering inflationary aspect factor - net difference is just negligible, even if company increases prices say to tune of 10%

But important is you need this Extended Warranty - been some of the parts are imported, hence is essential to not to skip same (time frame of purchase can well be decided by you basis convenience factor - right now or at later stage)

Hope should help !!

Hi Neet,

See the basic essential can do on your side without spending a lot is
> keep car parked under shades
> Have car cleaned daily with a soft clotch and get it washed on weekly basis.
> Apply 3M wax every 3 months - once at start and then every 3 months on own. Use 3m microfiber cloth for cleaning or use a local detailing person to do same by paying him few hundreds for it.

May refer on some Do it yourself videos for same. It would be enough to keep car shine and paint intact.

However, if you seek professional detailing solution
Although there are many kinds of coatings and treatment protection plan available including
> Ceramic Coating
> 3M Shield Coating
> 3M Paint Protection Film
> 3M Ventureshield Protection Film

For products like Ceramic coating, Shield coating - there is nano protective layer / ;liquid polymer been applied and basis number of layers, warranty period - car shine remains intact.

I wont recommend PPF on Cars with white colors as it needs relative more maintenance and possibility of slight yellowish film in later years can disappoint. Its best to go for PPF on Dark colored cars

See - Ceramic Coating,Shield Coating are all there but if you ask me i wont go with either as the best way to maintain car with shine been intact is regular treatment protection. You can consider in Annual Package plan of 3M which include 4 Services under there plan called 3M Paint sealant protection. If recall correctly it includes detailing in both begininng and end of 1st year along with mid month treatment during
> 4th Month
> 8th Month

offering waxing and polishing.

As its a recurring service,. So essentially you can go for same annual plan during odd number of years at beginning of: 1st year, 3rd year, 5th year and will likely assist you in best overall protection treatment. While at end of 1.5 year, 3.5 year type can go for mid treatment plans of waxing and polishing.

This will assist in continuous treatment of car and will help in keeping shine. paint intact on long term basis.
You may check with local 3M store for prices, i think this may cost in Rs 12000 to 14000 approx

Hope should help !!

sir thanks for the reply. Sir needed some expert advice on accessories for duster. Sir what are major accessories i should install in Duster RXZ CVT model only related to safety of car. Sir should i go for lamination of car floor as at dealer end it is costing about Rs.6500 and also should i go for seat cover for some premium band like Top gear as in local market it will be difficult for me to differentiate between good or bad quality seat cover.

Thank You

Hi Neet,

Duster RXZ is what the top end fully loaded variant
These laminated floor mats, seat covers, chrome elements are pure individual choices, However, from accessory front if you seek from safety aspect then recommended to go for

> Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
> DashCam
> Auto Dimming Rear View Miror

as what key recommended one for need specified.
