I currently own a Swift Dzire Vxi 2010 model. I am planning to sell it post lockdown and upgrade to a premium hatchback with a budget of around 8-10 lakhs (on road - Mumbai). I really like the Tata Altroz in terms of looks and features over the Baleno and i20. However, I would want to buy an automatic version. Since Tata already has an Altroz Automatic in the pipeline, should I wait for it or look out for other options (suggestions please). I can wait for another 6-8 months if its really worth the wait. I have also heard that the new i20 (with a DCT automatic) should be launched this year as well. I am having that in mind as well. I wouldn't mind if my budget stretches by a lakh.

Hi Soham,

If your Swift is working fine, i suggest you wait for 6 months mainly due to two reasons :-

1) Since Covid is going on . Most people will be affected by money issues directly or indirectly. I am in the market right now for a new Car. Due to Covid i have reduced my budget to 8-9 L just to be on the safe side. So my suggestion is to hold of on any heavy spending just to understand how the economy and your job will turn out. I am speaking from personal experience as i have already booked for ALtroz XZ (P). Right now i am considering holding off my purchase for a few months as Covid lock-down might return again and i will not be able to drive my new ride. Thus i will gain interest on my money rather than gaining dust on my new ride :D

2) The second reason is the launch of better options especially the ALtroz Turbo petrol (Manual or DCT) ,the new I20 (it may also have a turbo) and the Kia Sonet (Starting price might similar to Venue of round 7 L according to reports).
Don't get me wrong , the current Altroz pertrol is more that sufficient for normal drivers. I have test driven it multiple times in hilly areas with 3 additional people on board . Even though most reviewers say that the petrol is weak they don't understand that most indian drivers are leisurely drivers who don't go above 2500 RPM. The altroz is more than sufficient in this regard. But i want to see how the DCT along with turbo petrol will perform. I have driven the new nexon petrol and it is a power the same engine with DCT will be Exhilarating ....One thing about TATA vehicles i dont like is the 6 month service cycle (7500KM).

Lastly if you wait for new I20 and Kia sonet you will not be dissapointed by their interior quality and general aesthetics. The Korean are masters when it comes to Interior quality/ Fit& Finish even though their body shell integrity is questionable compared to Tata (i test drove altroz and Hyundai Venue, Venue seems weeker and lighter than Altroz)

Sorry for the long post :D . Hope my suggestion helps
