Hi Gagan Ji,

I am looking to book a Tata Altroz XZ petrol this week. After much negotiation, the dealer has quoted the below amounts as a part of the final on-road price (all in INR):

1) Ex-Showroom - 744000

2) Lifetime road tax @10% - 74400

3) RTO Charges (Smart card+15years registration+HSRP+Hypothecation) - 3301 (600+680+521+1500)

4) Insurance - opting out (will get on my own)

5) Handling Charges - 5500

I have the following questions and would be grateful if you can help answer them:

q1) Not only is the handling charge illegal, but it is also higher than what Hyundai or Maruti charge their customers. The dealer is refusing to remove this charge and are citing that the government has allowed them to levy this charge. Can you please advise on how I can counter them or share any recent circular I can use to counter them? This is the only bottleneck postponing my purchase.

q2) Are the RTO charges mentioned above accurate? If not please advise on how I can counter the dealer?

q3) The colour I have opted for is a little hard to find (grey). However, if the book the car today at the current pricing and when the dealer picks it up, the price increases, will I get price protection as it is Tata Motors that made the car unavailable?

Eagerly waiting for your response!

Just a friendly suggestion, you may consider buying Nexon XE or XM if buying top model of Altroz .. that is one level up car and more value buy ..

If you have the Proforma invoice or the quotation mentioning about the Handling charges, please tweet the same to Tata Motors handle, direct your queries there and see what they are saying.

Hey Manish. Appreciate the recommendation. I thought about that at the beginning. But I am a new driver and an SUV would be too much for me right now. This would be my first car. Also, XE or XM would be a completely stripped-down version of Nexon and I will have to spend a good amount of money on getting it up to spec. So I had to move on from Nexon.

Wait for brezza petrol.

That is the car for you.

Else swift with new hybrid tech 32kmpl.

Else simple swift with 1.2 petrol - far superior than altroz 1.2 petrol

Hello,

@Shubham Agarwal

1. For Handling Charges - i suggest to write to Tata Motors
If pushed correctly can get same Waived, see attached copies can assist in getting handling charges waived

2. Which City as Tax varies in every state ?

3. Price applicable on day of delivery is applicable, but Altroz is not having months of waiting
You can check with dealer GM on placing the indent am sure wont take lot of time in getting delivery

Hope should help !!

Hi Gagan Ji,

Thank you for your response and the screenshots.

1) I will approach Tata Motors for getting the waiver.
2) I am from Kolkata. Tax rates are 5.5% and 10% for One time and Lifetime tax, respectively. I am more concerned about the other charges, as mentioned above under RTO charges.
3) I have spoken with the dealers. They are not super enthusiastic about taking Altroz's bookings or any BS6 bookings for that matter. They are trying to liquidate all BS4 stock and they have a lot of that. Some dating back to 2017 even. Not an option for me though.

Appreciate your responses!
