We are a middle class family planning for our first car for general day to day use. Our option for now is either buy Alto 800 or Kwid. We are also getting a second hand swift vdi, 2016 model for 3.75 INR around 40-50000 km running.
1.I am confused either go for new or second hand. What will be better choice?
2. If it is new then which is better choice, Alto 800 vxi or Kwid RXL/RXT? Considering december discount, after discount I will get Alto under 4 lakh on road and Kwid around 4.5 lakh.
Please solve our problem as I am new here not so experience in automobile sector. Also we are planning to have minimum for 5-8 years of new car and 3-4 years for second hand car.

Get that swift valuation checked and inspect by experts like cars24 or olxcashmycar etc before buying(do that for all used vehicles). Also check for it`s service records. It`s always better to buy 2-3 year old car as most of the depreciation is borne by first owner. Let`s discuss pros and cons on swift vdi 2016 over new segment A cars(alto, nano, kwid, redigo etc.) -

Pros -
Better space(legroom, headroom and boot)
Better driving experience
Better Air conditioning
Better mileage as it`s diesel
Lesser depreciation as most it`s initial depreciation hit is already taken by first owner
Better safety and build quality
Better Style(except for kwid)
Perfect for your time horizon of 3-4 years as major maintenance cost starts after 6 years/1 Lac KMs
Better if car has extended warranty or still in warranty

Cons -
Higher maintenance cost of diesel car(1.5x to 2x more than segment A petrol vehicles)
