I own a 2013 Registered 2012 MY Honda Brio SMT varient. I love the car and it is still in good condition, I have regularly done company services as per schedule. Recent service done last month and my adviser told to upgrade my tyres and he also claimed my rear suspension and battery is a bit weak, but I have no complaints. Clocked over 40000 kms.

I was driving the car for over 5 years in city and now past 2 years I am driving it to Chennai and Bangalore once every 2 months. My friends are suggesting me to upgrade to a better safety features car, my car doesn't even have airbags or ABS.

Considering this should I upgrade to a new car or consider a second hand car with safety features? Else continue with my old car. I still have it looking new and maintained well. Is the safety features a absolute need? because I drive my car only under 90kms/hr speed as I have my mother travelling with me. Also currently I live in Bangalore and no plans to stay here for long duration.

Only problem I have is luggage compartment as I travel outside city the bags cannot be accommodated, Since I am not having any loans at the moment i am wondering whether to buy a new car or continue with this car. Please advise.

Also if you suggest me to upgrade to a safer car, do you suggest a second hand car in the temporary city I live in or new car from my own city?

Well would you believe in over 80% of Passenger cars running on road lack ABS and Airbags
Its only in last 3 years is what Passenger Car Manufacturers are what making these safety features as standard. Although by seeing the statistics where over 1.5 Lakh people lose lives on road accident every year is an alarming number - which what makes introduction of Safety features even necessary, and thankfully even the entry segment Alto 800 now gets ABS and Airbag as standard in it range in 2019

While ABS prevent car wheels from lock up in emergency situation and is absolute a very important safety feature, Dual Airbags are passive safety and comes in play only in case of car meeting a frontal accident at speed with other car.

Having safety features like Airbags is like Insurance and if some one car dont have it then feels the worst pinch when the car meets an incident - else like life if it goes on smoothly then no need of such. ABS however i feel is more important as its an active safety and in case of sudden braking on higher speed prevent wheels to lockup and thus able to control skids.

Its upto an individual on what importance does he gives to safety features
Having said same by April 2020 - all cars sold in Indian market would be BS-6 Compliant, as of now only handful of Maruti Cars models are introduced in BS6 and rest all are in BS4 - if some feels that can be prudent to replace old car with not only with improved safety features but even a car which is future emission compliant as BS6 and by 2020 1st Quarter can find in all cars to be with BS6 Compliant too for even a better pick

Hope should help !!
