WB Road Tax for my 2005 Maruti Baleno Lxi (Old, discontinued model) is expiring on 18-03-2019. However, the Registration expires on 29-03-2020. So what are my options for Road Tax renewal? Do I need to pay for another 5 years? That would take it to 4 years past the Registration validity of the car! How does it work then?

Also, during my 2014 road tax renewal I paid Rs. 35000/- for 5 years, and was not given any option of paying life-time tax for some reason (I have already paid Rs. 73000/- road tax so far, in two instalments)! Is there no discounts allowed for old cars? Thanks.

Seems some kind of mis-match
> Road tax is paid for the tenure registration is valid in
> Seems road tax paid in 2014 was due when the car registration would have completed 10 years - unless you paid it in 9th year while the registration still has validity of 1 year - which also means tax validity for the period when registration is valid

Pl cross check with RTO

Thanks for your response. Sorry for the confusion -- I should have explained the reason behind the mismatch to start with.

My car was purchased in Bangalore in 2005. I moved to WB and transferred my registration to WB in 2009. Consequently, I had to pay 5-year WB road tax in 2009, and renewed it for another 5 years in 2014 (valid till 18-03-2019). However, my car RC validity remained for 15 years -- till 29-03-2020 (from 2005), as it was originally in KA. This resulted in the 1-year mismatch in RC validity vs. road tax validity! Now the RTO clerks and agents are saying I have to pay 5-year road tax again. I was not able to get through to any RTO officers in this regard! What can I do now?

To think that I'd already paid LTT in KA originally, then paid Rs. 78000/- in two instalments already as WB road tax, and am asked to pay road tax for another 5 years while my RC is valid only for another year! I can't even sell the car because it has no resale value (although in excellent condition)! Please advise what I should do. Thanks.

WB RTO has 2 Tax payment option
> One Time tax - 5 year
> Life time tax - 15 year / valid for the entire registration date

Although to ply the car on road if tax paid is expired then owner still has to pay for 5 year tax as there is no pro-rata scheme
Still - Suggest to meet RTO Officer in charge on same and discuss for possibility if there for any rebate.
