Hello Gagan Sir,

I own a Honda Amaze VX Petrol, Manual Transmission (2016 face-lift model). It is about to complete 2 years on 23rd May 2018. It has been used very sparingly, only run about 5200 km. in these 23 months including few trips of 350-400 km. at a single stretch. However, I have it serviced regularly according to the owner's manual i.e., every 6 months inspite of low running. Till now, i haven't faced any major/minor problem. I wanted to know about the following;

1. Your advice/suggestions on further maintenance/servicing of the vehicle?
2. Will the vehicle face any issues due to low running?
3. Should i go for an Extended Warranty? If Yes, then please tell me for how much years should I purchase and how much would it cost.
4. Should i continue to opt for Zero Dep Insurance this year too, or go with a Comprehensive Plan.
5. Any other tips for ensuring the vehicle's life, since I intend to own it till 2025.

Thanks & Regards,
Ramayan Singh

Hello,

Pl find comments as below

1. Your advice/suggestions on further maintenance/servicing of the vehicle?
3. Should i go for an Extended Warranty? If Yes, then please tell me for how much years should I purchase and how much would it cost.

Well - although the running does not justify at first instance - but case where vehicle driven and used only fro short distance is what essentially called severe drive condition; Going for extended warranty always gives peace of mind ownership
If the car driven for so less usage and considering price its recommended to go for it
But - Any skip in service schedule will take away the warranty benefits

So - ends down to your choice.

2. Will the vehicle face any issues due to low running?
Depends on how frequently or infrequently the vehicle been used
Like - say if the vehicle not driven for 3 to 4 months at all - then possibility of fuel and fluids may contaminate can happen
Is the vehicle been used for short distance cover only like 2 to 3 kms - then again by doing so - the engine will never reach its optimum temperature and this is what essentially called in by OEM as Severe Condition
The car is mechanical and to keep it in best of condition for lubrication - its recommended to drive in atleast 10-12 Kms a week in a single stretch, so that the engine can reach its optimal temperature

4. Should i continue to opt for Zero Dep Insurance this year too, or go with a Comprehensive Plan.
5. Any other tips for ensuring the vehicle's life, since I intend to own it till 2025.

That depends - personally speaking although Zero dep plan is better - but i also do not have it
So - depends on risk taking
Only Tip to maintain Honda Cars is to replace in Fluids and Filter as what recommended basis service schedule for peace of mind ownership

Hope should help !!

Sir, thanks a lot for answering my queries.
Well, this vehicle is single-handedly driven by me only and I never drive it if the trip is less than 8-10 km.
I have also taken it for 5-6 continuous trips of 350-400 km. mostly on Agra-Lucknow-Gorakhpur Highway in these 2 years.

Are there still any chances that the vehicle will develop the "OEM's called in Severe Condition" as advised by you?

Please reply soon.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Well as you know car build up of mechanical items and for it to remain in best condition is to drive in regularly.

Some of the common limitations for a car parked idle for months
> Keeping the car parked / idle in for long develops fuel carbons in the oil, which makes it acidic.
> The Engine when remains shut for such a long period - Oil Molecules tends to break up and would rather be harmful for engine.
> Fuel Contamination would likely happen
> Bacteria Formation in AC would also likely happen been usage would be so limited

Its best to drive in atleast once every 15 days for 20 odd Kms a minimum - this will only help in retaining the car in best and is ideal
Else - there are owners who also do not drive in car for months on - still nothing happens to there vehicle - but thats not what recommended
So its is all about how well the owner want to keep the vehicle and care for it

Also - recommended to get Fluids (Engine Oil & Oil Filter, Brake Fluid, Transmission Oil, Coolant) changed as what recommended based on owner manual, even if not looking for complete servicing - this will only help in retaining car in best shape

Hope should help !!
