Dear Sir,

I have been driving a Grand i10 for nearly 4 years (~40000 KMs) with stock Apollo tyres (unfortunately was never a fan of Apollo).
Planning to upgrade to Michelin Energy XM2 after reading through the threads. My stock is R14 165/65 and thinking to move to 175/60 or 175/65.
Is this recommended? I am not sure about 185/60 as this may end up in a stiffer drive on the city roads and also compromise on Fuel efficiency which is already not so great with the Grand. I do highways time to time but 60% or more City drives only. So, I wanted to have more grip on road but not compromising too much on the softness and suspension.

Please advise.

Thanks and Regards,
Shiva

Hello,

Michelin XM2 is an excellent choice considering the fact that the tyre
> are almost noiseless
> Aids in Soft Handling
> Perform best when driven on good roads been rubber compound is softer and tuned for comfort oriented drive

In terms of upsizing tyres R14 175/60 would actually reduce the circumference and height - ending up reduced ground clearance
The best upsize would yes be R14 185/60 - and as rightly mentioned can dip in mileage a bit but based on the fact
> Steering would turn firm on high speed as against non responsive steering
> Grip Levels would improve a lot on High Speed
> Cornering ability of the car will improve
> Lastly the deviation is within acceptable limits

Upsizing R14 175/65 would take deviation to around 2.5% - which is slight more aggressive and if we have R14 185/60 - then its a better choice to pick.

Thank you, Admin for the prompt and timely response. I think I will go with then stock spec as 185/60, though it lends more grip on road on high speeds, will probably add more weight and reduce acceleration and dip in mileage as well. Hyundai Petrol at least in the Hatchback are not powerful enough already. Moreover, as I drive 60-70% on cities, this may then add more difficulty to maneuver as well. Any thoughts are highly appreciated.

Hi,

I am planning to replace my worn out stock tires. I have the option of 165/65 and 175/65 R14 tires from Yokohama. I was planning to go for the latter(175)

Which would you advise ? Will it have any cons apart from an incorrect ODO reading ?

I think 185/60 R 14 is the ideal size for the upgrade. It is well under the permissible limit i:e; <2%.Here it is 1.3%.So it will enhance stability in high speed providing more grip on the road.Steering will gain some weight which is good for better feel & feedback. But it will impact slightly on mileage.Mileage will drop down to 10-11kml in city & 13-14 kml in highway..
