I have an Skoda rapid diesel 1.5 auto gear run near to 90,000 k. m. Dealer is asking for the change of timing kit (belt, tensioner, bearing etc.) App. 13500 estimate he is giving me.
My question is is it mandatory to replace all the items or can we change the timing belt only. There is no extra noise in the engine or timing area.
Please suggest me.

Hello,

Timing Belt life span is around 1 Lakh Kms in most of the vehicles
Been - its a wear and tear items - its best to get it replaced in including replacement of tensioner belt, water pump

Any cut in timing belt can cause in damage to piston / valve
Although there is no noise but - Considering the fact that car is already driven 90000 Kms - will endorse in opinion of workshop for preventive replacement of same for hassle free ownership for future years.

In case you feel to write an ownership review of Skoda Rapid - may share same on on future buyers to assist in
You can Write Ownership Review

Hope should help !!

I had the same problem in my Rapid which has done 85k. Would fill coolant only for it to deplete in a few days. Took it to Skoda svc center.

They have recommended change of coolant water pump (it is different from the coolant reservoir) along with the timing belt. Initially I was not convinced why timing belt also needs replacement along coolant pump, but those guys told me that the belt drives the pump and hence they are changed together. Reading the online resources also confirms the same. They have quoted me 15k for the overall replacement.
