Greetings !!

First between Petrol and Diesel, would like to share on the costs associated in Diesel

a) Various Filter costs are higher - Oil Filter, Fuel Filter, Air Filter in Diesel car relatively against Petrol car will be higher by around Rs. 1000 (Spark Plug on other hand is not required in Diesel car,
b) Engine Oil of same Grade in Diesel as against Petrol - will be priced higher. Though Synthetic Engine Oil is considered best for Diesel cars, Petrol cars can still manage on Mineral Oil - Approx difference is Rs. 3000 in Engine Oil Change - which is generally required every 15,000 Kms
c) Some Parts like - Clutch Plate - almost 70% priced higher in Diesel i.e 4000 - 5000. Battery, when replaced will costs 3000 - 4000 more against Petrol car
d) Insurance costs in Subsequent year are higher in Diesel Cars against Petrol Cars. Insurance companies generally withdraw loading discount on diesel cars after 2 yrs, on Petrol cars its withdrawn after 5 yrs

Also, to our internal sources and industry interactions - on a longer term basis - you can expect the diesel to be priced at an average premium of Rs. 20 -22 against Petrol

Why we are referring above points !! If its your first car, you should know
a) Costs associated on Diesel so as to be aware of before making a decision to buy
b) Diesel Engine produces some noise from Engine which some utterly dislike
c) General, Maintenance and Insurance costs of owning a diesel car

Diesel is suited for 2 purpose
a) Ofcourse the Fuel Savings
b) Higher Torque produced leading to better pulling force - best suited for SUVs or Powerful Engine Cars

So - will recommend diesel only if, you feel to owe a UV/SUV or car wherein your monthly running will be atleast 40-50 Kms a month or say 18,000 - 20,000 Kms in a year - to have real saving on Fuel Costs

Coming Back to your Query
this will be my first car and I am not confident on my driving, can manage to run on in less trafic, like bolero

First car - Bolero has much unheard of as a first car
The Engine is massive at 2.6 Lit producing torque of 195 NM. However, where it lacks is the power output. It hardly produces 62 BHP Power - which is even lower than Tata Indica, Ford Figo - considered as entry segment Diesel Cars

Having a bigger Engine, but much less powerful - with high body kerb weight will not have fun to accelerate the car or cruise on.
Ideally, its always better to buy a hatchback or rather go in for Compact Sedan - if its your first car. Ease of Driving is what is best observed and should be the main criteria

I feel nervous during driving through more traffic. At present family consist 4 members. Please advice me the best model & also where I can save/bargain during purchase

See, Driving is a thing which you have seen is done by 15 yr old boy to 85 yr old person. From Illiterate to Workers - all drive. Will suggest - to be relaxed during drive and join in a driving school for a month or so. The more you practice - the more you will feel relaxed and will be comfortable on road

Though, a small article been written long back on it - may see if it helps you in some way -
Driving Tips

In respect to advising on the best model and discounts, will seek some more info from you side to assist for it
- Budget
- Model & Fuel Classification after reading above - Hatch / Sedan / SUV
- Time Frame to Purchase - as some hot selling models are running on waiting or you looking for immediate buy
- Features looking in for or desired. Are you keenly looking for having Safety features like - ABS, Airbags, EBD etc as a must

Pl advise on above information, so as to recommend the best car with discounts

Hello,

Will recommend to raise budget as you intend to hold on car for a fair long period.
So that you should not compromise in quality to go in for lower model for sake of 50K - 1 Lakh

Toyota Etios GSP Petrol -
a) Bigger Power and Responsive Engine and Pick up - 1.5 Lit / 90 BHP, 132 NM Torque - better than any compact Sedan
b) Toyota Cars known for Quality Products and there spares though not as low as in Maruti and Hyundai, but are much economical
d) Turning Radius however though not lowest, but is descent enough at 4.9 Meter, Dzire has 4.8 M
e) Spacious. Excellent Boot Space.
f) Will fit in your budget . Comes with features:- AC, Power Steering, Safety Specs of ABS, Airbags, All 4 Door Power Window, Remote Central Lock, Double Din Music System, Cooled Glove Box, Adjustable Headrest, Dual Tone Interiors

If Seeking Diesel - then will recommend Honda Amaze Ex Diesel. Ex-showroom price is Rs. 6.87 Lakh
a) Powerful 1.5 Lit / 100 BHP Engine - better than its competition with class apart - Dzire comes with 1.3 Lit /75 BHP, Manza with 90 BHP , Etios 68 BHP
b) Responsive Engine, Easy and Comfortable Drive
c) Spacious and comfortable for 4 passengers
d) Lowest Turning Radius among all Sedan at 4.7 M
e) Comes with features:- AC, Safe Driving with ABS with EBD, Power Steering with Height Adjustable Steering, All 4 Door Power Window, Manual Central Lock, Body Colored Door Handles, Music System with Front Door Speakers

In terms of discounts
- Amaze no discounts
- Etios - Discounts are not great this moment of time. Along with Maintenance Smile Package, Dealer offering accessories worth 12,000. Corporate discount is Rs. 5000. However, to the info - we have - dealers are additionally offerin discounts in tune of Rs. 5-7K, if can negotiate well with them.
- Insurance, you can buy Online. Should save couple of thousands Online and go for Zero Dep (will cost around 17-18K)

Let know, if it suits !!

Hello Lokanath,

Greetings !!
Market share is something, which is rather independent and is dependent on network size, market presence, plant capacity, investment details etc
Having a low market share does not necessarily imply any issue in product portfolio. Both Toyota & Honda make segment leader products - Fortuner, Innova, City (best selling petrol sedan).

The cars recommended by Admin - Etios, Amaze are best pick as Value segment with loaded features and considered value buy. Yes, the spares are not sold over the counter. However - they are not that expensive as what you feel in Skoda, Volkswagen, Nissan.

Anyhow, considering criteria - Lowest Maintenance, Powerful Engine, Features List, Mileage, Network and Spare Availability
Will suggest to go on with Maruti or Hyundai Car - considered the lowest Maintenance & Most Reliable Cars of the Auto Industry

- Ritz Vxi ABS - Powerful Pep in Engine, will love to drive it. You may have to install Music System as Additional Accessory. Refer Features
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/index.php?option=com_newcar&view=product&Itemid=2&id=13&vid=182

- Hyundai Grand I10 Asta - All New Version. Comes with Segment first many features . Know complete list of features on this url
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/index.php?option=com_newcar&view=product&Itemid=2&id=184&vid=585

In terms of Diesel, choose - Ritz Zdi, Grand I10 Asta Diesel

Why not Swift ? For 4 passengers - there wont be any kind of space issue in both Ritz & Swift. Its more of Style and Looks - which Swift commands premium on and premium is hefty to tune of 50,000 - 60,000 in terms of price difference
https://www.mycarhelpline.com/index.php?option=com_easydiscuss&view=post&id=538&Itemid=78

However, be note that Grand I10 Diesel has just been launched. There wont be any kind of initial offers. However, if you choose it, you can start seeing something good on it come up by the time year end comes up.

You made a right choice to Test Drive the Cars
Let know - how it goes !!

Thank you sir for your advice. If I summarize your advice than It will be
Petrol- Toyota Etio / Maruti Ritz,Here I feel Toyota etio is More than 4 mt Length, can you suggest me a model which is less than 4mt so that I can save some thing.Further please clarify me should I face a problem when there is a question comes under maintenance(Toyota&Honda) when service center is not available in near by area.If the answer is no, than I may think for it and my sequence will be
1. amaze 2. Toyota 3. Ritz 4.Swift 5.Wagon R
For Diesel.The sequence will be
1.Ford Figo
2.Honda Amaze
3.Maruti Ritz
4.Maruti Swift
When the question comes Road visibility ,I feel discomfort in swift due to low sitting position though I have found more vehicles on road(cuttack&bhubaneswar) under this segment.
Now I would like to request you to provide me your Final expert advice in sequencing model(Long term possession, better road visibility with safety aspect, budget 5 - 7 lacks)

Based on advice further Your help is required to make a better sequence in selecting model;
Petrol
Honda amaze 2. toyota Etio(Since its length is more than 4m,please suggest some other model) 3.Maruti Ritz 4.Maruti wagon R
For diesel
1.Honda Amaze 2.Ritz 3. Hyundai Grand I 10 4. sWIFT.
the reason for keeping swift as last option is Lower seat position for driver,
For me top priority is Better road visibility / safety features / considering good for long term ownership (seven years at least),self driving, personal use /within budget 5-7 lacks which is comfortable and can stretched up to one lacks if it is justifiable),My thinking is since it is a depreciated asset the amount invested should be reasonable.

Hello Lokanath,

A car should be bought wherein the service center is within the radius. If there is no Authorized workshop within location - how will you manage for regular maintenance, leave that - how will you manage for Emergency or car breakdown or some unexpected issue !!

What i have interpreted from all your replies, you seeking a car
- Tall Seating position - i.e car should feature of Height Adjustable Driver Seat. Also, to have Low Turning Radius for Easy Driving
- Safety Specs should be there along with Company Inbuilt Music System and should come loaded with standard features like - PS, PW etc
- Has Low Spare Parts, Low Maintenance Cost with Easy Availability and Network
- Excellent Fuel Economy as you raised question on Etios Mileage
- Not concerned much about Hatch, Sedan - should suit well on budget

Without creating confusion, will recommend best Petrol and Diesel Hatch

- Go with All New Maruti Ritz Zxi Top End Model. It will meet all your requirements
Safety - ABS, Dual Airbags, Head Restraints in both Front and Rear Seats, Defogger
Excellent On City Mileage of 15 Kmpl, Tall and Clear View, Adjustable Driver Seat,
Double Din Music System, PS, All 4 Door PW, Keyless Lock, Fog

Refer complete Features
http://www.marutisuzukiritz.com/RitzFeatures.aspx

In Diesel, as i see you have mentioned Ford Figo as first preference. Dont go with it'
It has Turbo Lag, Mileage Issue and Ford Parts are expensive. To give you an example - Music System in Ford will cost around 16,000. A Similar system from Maruti will cost 10,000. The Parts are priced higher too

In Diesel - will recommend only among Ritz Zdi Diesel or Grand I10 Asta Diesel - basis your choice prefernce

How Important is front and side impact beams while selecting a car.
Please provide some more information over cost of ownership over Ritz Diesel and Ritz Petrol.

Hello,

Thanks for your kind words
Gagan Sir is on field, I will try to answer your query to satisfaction

Between 3 Cylinder and 4 Cylinder Engine
This actually is mis-conception that 3 cylinder engines are less powerful or create noise levels. Infact, they are equally powerful and are created intentionally for generating better fuel efficiency. The only drawback to car owner in 3 cylinder engine is that he will observe that on lower speed he need to change gears in tandem

For example - for deriving best fuel efficiency and pick up - below speed matrix is there
- From 10-12 Km - Shift to 2nd Gear
- From 25 Km acceleration - shift to 3rd Gear
- From 40 Km - Shift to 4th Gear
- From 50 Km - Shift on the 5th Gear

rawback of 3 Cylinder
- If you start your car on 2nd gear or shift to 3rd Gear at say 15-18 Km speed or say shift to 4th gear on 30 Km speed - the acceleration and pick-up will be much better in 4 Cylinder Engine as against 3 Cylinder Engine

Hyundai Grand comes with 2nd Generation Crdi Diesel Engine - which is refined and fuel efficient. Infact, its one of the few engines which actually is future ready for Euro V Norms. Overall, note - there isnt any problem from Engine per se

Both Ritz and Grand I10 - are well powered Engines. However, Ritz takes a slight edge due to higher power and better torque against I10 - which will end up resulting better pick up and acceleration over I10

Hello,

In response to Query
How Important is front and side impact beams while selecting a car.

Having beams in car is a definite safety from side crash. Will help in reducing the impact from side crash and thus can have lesser impact to passengers sitting in cabin
In terms of feature been on the prime list or not - depends well on Individual own criteria.
There are so many cars sold without - ABS, Airbags, Head restraints. Even, people do not wear seat belt as the basic feature - which in actual acts as the most safest feature for the driver in crash - more than even Abs, Airbags. Airbags wont be of much help if seat belt are not worn. So, you have to decide on prioritizing it.

However, have taken time to check from dealer point, as per them Ritz dont have side beam and neither Grand I10 has
Only 2 hatchback - Swift has side beam. Hyundai I20 has it, an edge ahead on both front and rear door.

To be honest ,I am not much aware between hatch back vs compact sedan while selection. What I have done is ,I have expressed my desire during prioritizing of my selection ,fixed up my Budget where I am comfortable and Rest I have left you to guide me being you are expert in this field.
I am confident you will guide me in a right direction,This confidence came after reading various article which are written with fact and figure, and which is not available in other web site

Thanks for trust !!
But i seriously think that you need to sit, on own and jot down some points
- Safety Specs
- Petrol / Diesel basis running
- Features cant compromise

Have a test drive of couple of cars both Hatch & Sedan. Today dealer come to customer place for offering test drives
Test Drive - Amaze Diesel, Ritz, Grand I10, Figo etc - as what on your radar

Feel them and shortlist 2-3 among them. I think - may be you will be in a better position to drive your dream car

Hello Gagan Sir
To day I was looking CNBC channel,During the news it was told diesel price is likely to be raised Rs4 - Rs5,I remember In your first comment you have advised me that diesel price may go up than petrol and further I feel since difference is gradually decreasing and further there is large difference with spare parts, with my self analysis over total running at present ,I have not considered future becoz since I am working a private company ,there is less chance of running 16000-18000 km/year for personal use and Now I have decided to go for petrol Only.
You have adviced me Only Maruti Ritz. Please suggest two more option.
I am planning to take test Drive between 20-30 September(since I am working in a remote area which is 350K.M away from the city where all the type of cars dealer are available.
Further please advice me What are the things to check &verify during test drive,Things to be considered during bargains to finalise the price and abstract maximum benefit.

Hello,

Good morning !!
Well, Test Drive are meant to have feel for the car
So - will recommend to look in for actual Ritz Zxi car only - for actual feel of Interiors, Features.

While Car at Showroom
- Ask the Consultant to give Demo of Key Features of Car Including Safety Specs
- Sit in front by adjusting your seat, sit in rear to check legroom for rear seat passengers
- Check Interiors, Side View, Boot Space, Headroom, Features List. Does it appeal you

During test Drive
- Check Seating Position. How well can you adjust to your height. Are you comfortable to have outside view
- During Test Drive, have a feel of the car by pepping the car, changing gears, cruising to 60 Kmpl, check brakes ability. Drive slow in 1st to 2nd Gear a bit, Drive Fast in 4th tom 5th Gear a bit - You should Enjoy the feel without any discomfort before
- Check Gearshift, are you able to change it at ease
- The Pickup and Stopping should be smooth enough

After the Test Drive
- Ask your Queries or Doubts about the car
- Even if you like the car Do not show much excitement. Talk about Competition Models - Grand I10, Honda Brio a bit. Give an opportunity to Sales Consultant to sell the car to you
- Ask him about Maintenance part. Service Interval
- In meanwhile, ask for price list. Discounts. He will on first instance tell you Standard Discounts
- React him in casual way as these are standard discounts and is offered as basic discounts. Tell him, you checked on phone (from other dealers) offering complimentary accessories like - Gear Lock and Complimentary MGA Kit and even asked to visit them to offer the best price
- If you liked the car. Tell him now, that you liked it and need better price for booking. Show him the cheque

A slight smart negotiation - can be done across the table or if not in hurry - give sales consultant time to work up and let know the best price.

However, do note - A good discount is around Rs. 5000 over and above standard discounts on car like Ritz - to be negotiated from dealer. You may demand it as additional cash or accessories in lieu. Do not disclose the amount of Rs. 5000, ask for more so as to have best price from dealer or demand accessories.

Do not forget to have Sales Contract Done on Official Dealer Booklet. The sales contract defines the :-
- Price, Accessories Included, Model Details, Color etc

so that no ambiguity should occur later. Tell him, that you have to give it your company

Do not go in for Extended Warranty.
Insurance you can take it from Maruti Insurance, its priced well and has features to it
