Planning to buy a new car. But would like to know that should I wait for GST to be implemented if there is really 10% reduction of tax if hatchback cars are put in the category of 18% tax slab. If hatchback cars are going to fall in the 28% slab then I think there is no point to wait of the GST till July 2017. Please share the detail if some one has confirmed information about it.

I've gone through the link GST Impact and found something different here

Both the details about GST confused me and not helping me to make the decision to purchase new car right now.

GST Council referred in 4 rates
> 5%
> 12%
> 18%
> 28%
with additional cess on Luxury Items

While 5% and 12% are for basic essentials, 18% and 28% cess would likely be part of desirable goods which are more than necessity
Already the taxes on cars is
> Excise Duty
> Infra Cess

which comprised of almost 26% to 28% cess on Factory Price, there is no reason for government to cut its taxes. We expect Cars (sub 4 meter) to be part of 28% cess and higher than sub 4 meter cars to attract add on cess

You may search on Google news and refer in some well published articles from Economic Dailies to make a view (could likely be similar as what shared by us) on purchase call
Hope should help !!
